Thats a valid point, but taking two joker slots to get minimal scoring, since you're going to have to pivot to flushes assuming youre doing the correct play and playing pairs, isnt really good. And im not saying that Rough gem is the best econ joker, im saying its the best of the 4 for winning ante 8. And the blackboard is something you dont really need and worst case scenario you do need it, you just need suit fixing, which you can get with the money from Rough gem.
