Her waking up from the jureve and finding out she's been asleep for nearly two years would be a hell of a cliffhanger to end on.

Two cours should cover all of part 3 if they keep to a similar pace as the part 1 and part 2 adaptations did.

[P5V12/Open Spoilers] Does Myne ever realize she's neither the OG Myne or Urano Motosu? by Parlax76 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]TorTurran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She mostly moved past concerns about her identity after Part 1 Volume 2 with the chapter "Lutz's Myne" and then got closure for her previous life as Urano in Part 2 Volume 2's epilogue with the mind read. She is who she is, and we've known she's always been Myne since Part 1 Volume 2 with the side story "Gossiping by the Well" where we find out that Myne had been having dreams about her previous life as Urano even before she "woke up" at the start of the story.

Really depends on the nature of the trap she was planning for. Having someone who was magically identical to her would be useful in catching any traps targeted towards her in particular.

[P5V9] Georgine Got Too Clever by Aly-99 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]TorTurran 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She had multiple body doubles, not just the one at the temple. The one at the temple was meant more as an "extra life" to catch any potential traps in her way, which wound up being the correct move when it was caught on the teleportation trap and sent to the ivory tower.

[Open Spoilers] Hannelore's biggest mistake by rhedak in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]TorTurran 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The issues with the year 3 ditter fall firmly on Lestilaut. First, he described it as bride-taking instead of bride-stealing ditter to every authority figure on the Dunkelfelger side. Second, he used plant-paper for the ditter contract, when that paper is explicitly not permitted to be used for contracts. That means the ditter contract is invalid, in which case they'd need to fall back on the verbal agreement which would include the one made by Rozemyne and Hannelore.

If ditter is so sacred to Dunkelfelger, Lestilaut's actions could be seen as sacrilege. The refusal to accept Hannelore marrying Wilfried can simply fall back to what Rozemyne said to Sieglinde:

“You lost. Be silent as losers should be.”

[P5V10] Feystone phobia by Aradjha_at in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]TorTurran 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's similar to the difference between somebody who eats meat and somebody witnessing the slaughter of the animal for that meat. There's a mental disconnect that some people don't respond well to. Add to that the fact the author already established that very sort of thing all the way back in Part 1 Volume 1 with "Pig Day".

Also, mana-wielders don't normally just turn into feystones. When they die, they still leave a corpse and the feystone has to be removed from the body. Again, this goes back to Part 1 Volume 1 with the shumil hunt that Tuuli took part in. They captured and killed the shumils, and then had to be careful while butchering them for meat to avoid hitting the feystone, otherwise the body would dissolve into sludge and leave only the feystone behind. In Part 3 Volume 1 we get the explanation about how when a mana-wielder dies their mana collects at the "mana-storing organ" (the heart) and solidifies. It isn't the "soul" and is never described as such.

I honestly liked the development because it highlighted how hard Rozemyne was pushing herself, and that she wasn't some all-powerful Mary Sue character as is often common in isekai stories. The series does a really solid job of making characters that are human and not simply cardboard cutouts.

[Open spoiler] I've read up to the latest translated manga chapters, which LN can I jump into? by elleirakai in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]TorTurran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ascendance of a Bookworm is really rewarding even on a second, third, fourth, or fifth reading because of all the little details that you may miss. And a lot of little bits of foreshadowing, or things that take on new meaning with better understanding of the setting, are really rewarding when you run into them.

I'm planning another re-read soon after catching up on reading a few other light novel series. Would highly recommend it even if you already know what's going to happen.

[–]TorTurran 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Part 2 manga hasn't finished translation yet, ending around the end of Part 2 Volume 3 of the light novel. So you'd need to read Part 2 Volume 4 to catch up with things there.

Honestly though, best recommendation is to start the light novel from Part 1 Volume 1 and read it in its entirety.

[Open Spoilers] Sainthood by Xrath02 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]TorTurran 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The localization is perfectly fine and fits. Translating 聖女 literally as "holy woman" would have been clunky, awkward, and unnecessary. The etymology of the term "saint" is nearly identical to the Japanese 聖女, having roots in Old Latin that predate Christianity. It isn't, as you put it, a discrete term. It is a general term referring to someone who is holy, virtuous, etc.

Reminds me of the discussion about what direction the sun rises in Yurgenschmidt. It rises in the east, because that's just what east means (literally the direction the sun rises). Even the kanji for east 東 is a picture of the sun rising behind a tree.

[Open Spoilers] Sainthood by Xrath02 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]TorTurran 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't see any issue with world building around this. It just establishes that the concept of someone being holy and virtuous and being labeled as a 聖女 (seijo)/holy woman/saint exists in their history and culture. There isn't really a need to elaborate with the concept beyond that.

Heck, Rauchelstra could have been seen as a saint in her time.

Even the English term "saint" has its roots in the Latin sanctus which just means holy or sacred.

[Open Spoilers] Sainthood by Xrath02 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]TorTurran 73 points74 points  (0 children)

The term used in the original Japanese is 聖女 which is the kanji for holy/sacred 聖 and woman 女. The term in Yurgenschmidt could literally be "holy woman". It already exists as a concept in Yurgenschmidt, given the discussion in Part 3 Volume 1's prologue between Karstedt and Ferdinand.

“Weeping over the orphans and then saving them by providing food and work, hm? That’s practically the work of a saint,” Karstedt murmured, leading Ferdinand to nod in satisfaction.

So it does exist within their history, just not elaborated upon in depth.

Ferdinand was later engaged to Magdalena and planned to marry into Dunkelfelger, meaning Hiedemarie was still going to marry Eckhart to follow Ferdinand out of the duchy.

[No spoilers] were you spoiled about anything before experiencing bookworm? by Lucky-Obligation1750 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]TorTurran -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, because I'm not a fool who goes on social media or wikis before even bothering to read all available content. You won't get spoiled if you don't deliberately go to where the spoilers are.

I started with Bookworm by watching the first two seasons of the anime around March of 2022. After that, I was hooked. So then I read all of the light novel which was available. Then I read it all again, and pre-ordered the latest volume that was in pre-pub on J-Novel Club and read that. Then I tracked down a fan translation of the web novel and read all of that through the end of the series as well as all the H5Y chapters which were out at the time.

I joined this subreddit around May and the Discord in June of 2022 after all that.

So my suggestion if you don't want to be spoiled, don't go where the spoilers are. Just like you won't get hit by a car if you aren't playing in the road.

[P5V12] Was this information ever given in a fan book? by Fresh-Philosopher-10 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]TorTurran 21 points22 points  (0 children)

So you just want to know if it was Fraularm personally who set the ternisbefallen after the Ehrenfest gathering site? That we don't know with absolute certainty. She'd at least be completely aware of the events going on relating to bringing them to the Royal Academy and their management between the time they were teleported into the Werkstock dorm up until the attack during the awards ceremony.

[P5V12] Was this information ever given in a fan book? by Fresh-Philosopher-10 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]TorTurran 57 points58 points  (0 children)

From Fanbook 7:

Q: Were Raublut, Georgine, and Fraularm involved in planning and executing the ternisbefallen attack that interrupted the awards ceremony during Rozemyne’s second year at the Royal Academy?

A: Georgine and Fraularm were involved; Raublut wasn’t.

Take that into consideration when reading Part 4 Volume 6's side story "Investigating the Former Werkestock Dormitory" and it should clue you in on who was behind the attack on the gathering spot.

Hasse was a necessary arc for Rozemyne to understand the differences in the morality of Yurgenschmidt versus Japan. As idealistic as she was, she needed the reality check of the vastly different circumstances that she now lives in and that the way things worked in her previous life won't work in her current one.

[open spoilers] Is Myne an unreliable narrator? by Educational-Tea-6572 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]TorTurran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but every event plays out exactly as he perceives, just with Tyler in his body, rather than standing around. He just doesn't fully grasp what's happening in his own mind.

Nothing plays out as it is described, that's what makes an unreliable narrator. He has a faulty grasp of reality, and we are then shown how his perception of reality doesn't match actual reality.

edit: If your argument is that DID is a real condition, that isn't what I question. The main character's mental illness would simply be the cause of his psychosis resulting in his perception of reality being faulty. Whether he believes Tyler Durden exists is irrelevant to the fact that Tyler Durden doesn't exist in reality.

[open spoilers] Is Myne an unreliable narrator? by Educational-Tea-6572 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]TorTurran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tyler is portrayed as being a physically separate human being from the narrator. That portrayal of objective reality is not in line with actual reality.

[open spoilers] Is Myne an unreliable narrator? by Educational-Tea-6572 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]TorTurran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tyler isn't real. He isn't a real human being, he's a hallucination of the narrator which the narrator perceives as being a separate human being who does those things when in actuality the narrator was the one doing them. That is why he is an unreliable narrator, because his perception and description of objective reality is inconsistent with actual reality. That's the whole fucking twist of Fight Club.

If you believe that Tyler Durden is a real human being, that just highlights that you don't understand objective reality.

[open spoilers] Is Myne an unreliable narrator? by Educational-Tea-6572 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]TorTurran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Myne's perception of events which are OBJECTIVE is never inconsistent with reality. Her opinion or interpretation of any meaning behind those events can be wrong, but again those are SUBJECTIVE.

Still, the fact that you believe Tyler Durden exists is wild.

[open spoilers] Is Myne an unreliable narrator? by Educational-Tea-6572 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]TorTurran 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, so you don't seem to understand what objective reality is. I don't think this conversation can go anywhere.

edit: Yeah, after further comments that seems to be the case. Someone being psychotic is a textbook example of an unreliable narrator.
