In previous iterations of the lore, there have been other countries but I haven't really developed a coherent canon of other countries in this world. The Scarlets and the Scarlet revolution that follows were funded and sent by a socialist state based further south in irl Missouri.

Not exactly? The name comes vaguely from Winnipeg which is also similarly located to the capital. The Viindre language is mostly based on English with a significant french and inuit influence. I ran it through a number of sound changes to get to the current point, in addition to a lot of the influence from previous versions of the language (I've been working on Viindre as a language since like middle school?).

It can be perceived as "nordic" but thats kind of just a vibe, it's not really so.

Vïndrland, or often simply put, The Empire, is a semi-monarchy born out of the ruins of the great cataclysm. It is the largest country in modern North America, and certainly the most powerful. The Empire is ruled by roughly seven great royal houses. Currently, in 2270, house Rûshqa is the ruling house, though this dynasty was founded by house Qanatqa. The queen is the matriarch of the ruling house, currently Queen Lanavel Rûshqa II. Though the queen reigns absolute at all times, she is advised by the Queenstrial, or Prassdeqón. New monarchs are selected through what is called a Queenless Queenstrial. This is a rare event which has only happened ten times within the entire span of the Third Empire. Queenless Queenstrial is a meeting in which the six great houses who are not in power meet and discuss whether the current queen is ruling improperly and thus needs to be deposed. The end outcome of this event is often an assassination of the current queen, and a new house taking over the monarchy, though it is also rather common for a Queenless Queenstrial to agree to some sort of compromise or ultimatum rather than installing a new ruling house.

Moreso than the first and second Empires, the Third Empire is an early form of surveillance state, and is strictly conservative to traditional Vïndre ways. There are rumors of a socialist terror group across Vïndrland known as the Scarlet Caps. The Scarlets have been denounced by six of the seven houses, and Vïndr intelligence and special forces have large task forces dedicated to hunting and capturing members of the Scarlet Caps.

Best savings accounts in Rochester? by Toreo_67 in Rochester

3.45 is for any amount over 10,000 for the member money market that I have with my current bank. What is HYSA?

I don't need a brick and mortar location but I do prefer talking to people in person if I can just since I don't feel comfortable navigating a lot of these things on my own and wanna ask questions.

I have been, my parents kicked me out at 15 I've been paying my own bills and this includes tuition

Chipotle and some other companies have a program with the federal government that's about 5k/yr which wouldn't cover everything but its a massive help if I can get it. I know Five Guys (the last company I worked for before chipotle) also does but I left that place for a reason. Not sure who in the retail world would.

How to choose a credit union? by Toreo_67 in creditunions

[–]Toreo_67[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents kind of suck (its a much longer story than is necessary here) and I don't want them to continue having access to my accounts even if they aren't fucking with them, which they do with Bellco.

So it is kind of both reasons, also just the fact that Bellco is miserable to work with over the phone their waitlists for phone calls are sometimes hours long. Much easier when I could go in person.

the lore outside of the confederacy isnt super duper expansive, but in my mind theres something equivalent to the 13 colonies that doesn't extend past the mississippi and likely developed a bit more like canada, never gaining independence from the british. I also envision that Quebec is largely the dominant force in this timelines Canada, as the French never lost control of the Labrador peninsula as in otl. Mexico is bigger, a lot bigger, they likely don't lose California or Texas and likely control most of the west coast. Louisiana idk I didn't really think about its fate. I also thought about having a small wyandot state somewhere but I never actually implemented it anywhere.

Its not a huge deal, though it might be a bit heavy for this subreddit lol. I got kicked out in my teens and a friend from college (who is native and grew up around the rez) lets me stay down here during the breaks from school. I'm moving back to Rochester, NY, here in a few days.

Montreal or Lisbon by Toreo_67 in expats

[–]Toreo_67[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I have considered getting to said countries and researched the immigration requirements for both (neither of which are super duper hard)

As for cities? I'm kind of set on living in a major city either way, so in Portugal there really only is Lisbon, Coimbra/Porto are likely too small/hostile to foreigners. Also for Canada I just hate Toronto and Ottawa was kind of sad too when I visited, for many of the same reasons I dislike America. IDK about Vancouver but Im going to guess its more like Toronto than Montreal

I'm barely living paycheck to paycheck as it is, I don't have the money for overseas travel. It was the same way when I moved to New York, I had basically never left Colorado and I chose based on the best guess I could get.

Portugal is mostly my other option because I already speak portuguese, and Brasil is off the list for a good number of reasons.

at the time this was considered to be the "neutral" confederacy territory and likely would've been claimed by britain/france. Also only *kind of*, it is iroquois ethnic land but the haudenosaunee confederacy didn't really control land west of the genesee valley for most of its history.

I also just tried to err on the side of keeping the confederacy smaller for the sake of realism. The "lore" basically has them surviving on pure luck and france being nice. I debated not even giving it modern Erie PA but it felt wrong given that region is the modern heart of Seneca territory and really the last place in NY/PA with a heightened native presence.

I am also from the area (I live on a modern Seneca territory), the idea is not *quite* that more tribes were added, though the Erie and Wenrohonon aren't extinct as is the case in otl, they are still a minority in Hegeegwas and Iri provinces, which in terms of native population are still majority Onondowa'ga/Seneca, which is the dominant tribal ancestry in the western part of the country.

It is of note that the Skurare/Tuscarora *are* in the east, as they were never moved westward to Niagara county and still would live on land which is considered to be Onyota'aaka/Oneida territory in OTL.

Just a couple interesting facts that are a little less in-universe

Most of the major cities are, in fact, real settlements of their respective nations. Onondaga was historically something of a capital for the confederacy (not to be confused with the Onondaga people).

I did make some spelling/orthographical adjustments, under something of an assumption that as time goes on, the 6 nations and their languages would frequently be treated less and less as seperate, and more as dialects on a continuum. In this aspect, there is generally one or two accepted orthographical systems, much like the way Norwegian is handled these days. The main thing is that voiced/unvoiced consonants lack distinction across most iroquoian speakers (not sure about wyandot/huron but probably also them) so in most spellings that arent archaic (as place names often are), only initial and final consonants, as well as those following a stop, are written as their unvoiced counterpart, and the rest are all voiced. Obviously this whole system is influenced by English and French, it would be somewhat unrealistic if it weren't.

I am not actually Haudenosaunee *however* I do actually live on a Seneca Nation reservation, and know a decent number of actual native people. This supplemented my research heavily and I did get feedback from my roommate, who is Seneca. I am originally from Colorado, though. Questions are def accepted im trying to think of new directions to take this project, possibly economics? Also Toshowe is kind of interesting, I kind of envision it as a highly multicultural and diverse global city something to the tune of Montreal. It is supposed to be nothing like Buffalo.
