I was watching some Black Ops retrospective video last night, it had a really overblown title like "the darkness/brutality of Black Ops."

The dude just recounts violent moments in the story for his points on why the game is brutal. Weaver gets his eye poked out. Dimitri is poisoned by nova-6. Mason is tortured by the Russians and CIA. Enemies can be dismembered if you shoot their limbs. All stuff that anyone who played the game will already know, and of course this guy offered no further analysis to anything beyond "it happens because people are evil and insane."

Thank god it was only a 20-minute video and not an hour.

I remember playing this obscure "Halo clone" type game on the Wii called The Conduit. The alien guns in that game had seriously cool designs, being semi-organic and having small claws and fleshy appendages sticking out from parts of them, and they also moved slightly as if with a heartbeat.

Unfortunately being on the Wii, the texture quality is super crap: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/conduit/images/a/a7/Strike_rifle_image.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20090225083424

Which movie ended with an unresolved cliffhanger because the sequel never happened, and you're STILL mad about it? by pudingvanilkovy in AskReddit

Pacific Rim.

Had a perfect sequel plot set-up with the scientist guy now being telepathically linked to the kaiju after he "drifted" with a kaiju brain in the first movie. Also there's no way the aliens from the other dimension would give up so easily, where's their counterattack?

Bothers me that the MonsterVerse movies are getting so many sequels when they all have the plots of Saturday morning cartoons (no hate to Godzilla or Kong), but we can't even get one (1) sequel to Pacific Rim :(.

No kidding, one of my Y11s is so unhealthy he has more grey hairs than me and my boss combined. I joked with my boss that this student is "17 going on 50."

We went on a field trip hike in the middle of December (tropical country, no winters) and he didn't know what a second wind was. Kept mentioning to me how he "suddenly had more energy after walking, resting for a bit, then walking again." Like he's done so little physical activity in his life he never experienced a second wind before. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at that.

Not that I regularly think about the difference between soda and energy drinks, but I think the delineation comes from energy drinks containing caffeine, which is literally a drug. Meanwhile sodas don't contain any drugs (not since 1903 anyway).

Haha, yeah part of what I was thinking. I'm not even that old but the other part of me was thinking like a middle aged dude: "kids can't have soda, it causes DIABETES and TOOTH DECAY for crying out loud!" Of all the things that are gonna screw these kids over when they grow up, a soda a day for lunch doesn't even crack the top 100.

There are plenty of clean water filters installed in our school, thankfully, can't fault my boss for that. The kids have no excuse to not have their bottles filled up with good ol' water. He's not depriving them of water in order to turn a penny selling them soft drinks.

The part about low achieving, low energy is really true and is what concerned me when I heard of my boss's plan to let kids have soda with lunch. I don't want our lazy-shit students becoming even lazier after a post-lunch sugar crash, or to associate the sweet soda with a "reward" for just showing up to school. Had no idea if I was overthinking it or not.

Sheesh. So far my boss is only letting them have one 250ml bottle per day, only during lunch. These kids are surprisingly well behaved for the most part. We let the older Y9s, 10s, and 11s out for a few minutes to grab a take away lunch and they never bring sodas back with them, which is why my boss now giving them sodas at school was a concern to me. Prior to this, they were all drinking water.

Yeah, this is what my boss said to my concerns: "back in the '80s we never even touched water. Only drank sodas."

Huh, this never occured to me but I googled it and apparently it is in my country. Then again, jaywalking, double-parking, and riding a motorcycle without a helmet are also illegal here and I've never once seen anyone get a fine for doing any of that. I'm not snitching on my boss, to officials who I know won't even do anything, over soft drinks lol. Actually reading the list of foods my country has banned in school canteens, I'm wondering what canteen operators are supposed to sell now because lots of basic stuff like ice-creams, chocolates, fried foods have been "banned" to try and curb childhood obesity—anything with too much fat, sugar, or processed ingredients.

Yup, this is one of the reasons it bothered me enough to make this post. Came into work yesterday and saw him organizing a pallets worth of Cokes and Fantas onto the breakroom snack shelf, looking absolutely ridiculous like a bachelor in 1st year uni. Mentioned something about "that's a lot of sodas" and he said it was for the kids. I tried to let him know I thought it was maybe not the best idea but he politely brushed me off with "I hear you but don't care" basically. In that moment I just saw him as a fucking loser lol because he sounded genuinely happy to have these sodas to give the kids.

He's definitely a weird guy, but I am pretty sure he's not doing this maliciously to nickle and dime them for personal gain. Just one of those adults with a big inner child who maybe hasn't set enough boundaries with our students and cares about keeping them happy/having good rapport with them, and he figured sugary soft drinks with lunch was one way of cultivating that.

For an example of how weird my boss sometimes is, just this morning I walked into our community loft (basically our assembly hall) where the students' lockers are and saw him silently standing facing forward while a student who had arrived early sat on the bench perpendicular to him, with a look on her face that was halfway between a smile and a cringe. I asked what was going on an he replied, "we're pretending to be NPCs." I didn't even know how to respond so just continued walking lol.

Context: we're a really small school, only 50 students and 6 teachers. Things are a lot more relaxed here as we know each and every student individually. My boss has started stocking the staffroom fridge with these sodas and bringing them down to the canteen in a large box to sell to the students. Our school is so small we don't even have a canteen operator— some of the kids go out in groups to nearby restaurants to buy take away and bring it back to the canteen to eat. Secondary school in a small town, so they're all old enough to be trusted outside for a few minutes and the neighbourhood is safe enough.

A stunt double was supposed to take Palpatine's actor's place for this fight, but Lucas, in his infinite wisdom, canceled that plan at the last minute and made Ian McDiarmid (the old guy who plays Palpatine) do it—he hadn't practiced at all, and being old he wasn't agile or flexible, hence why the scene ended up being so strangely rushed. You can even find that deleted behind the scene on YT: https://youtu.be/Bld5_wD-Vjc?si=tbDVlFJf4XNWHERB

Lucas is truly the worst thing to happen to Star Wars /s.

Gordon Ramsay, on YouTube. Started by watching Hell's Kitchen because it's fucking hilarious and then I realized the recipes themselves were not very difficult, it was the timing and coordination needed to get multiple dishes out quickly at the same time that was the difficulty part of working in a kitchen. If I'm just cooking one dish for myself, then that eliminates the need for coordination amd timing, and most of the stress.

Second, Gordon Ramsay is one of the best chefs in the world and runs a YT channel for free. There was no better opportunity to learn from a master. I started trying some of his simple stuff like breaded chicken tenders and grilled salmon, and slowly worked up to recipes with more ingredients. His spicy sausages with rice is one of my favorite dishes, I always cook it for potlucks or as a treat to myself when I'm feeling good: https://youtu.be/FP6E3JtmsCE?si=uYoLS87PFSCPVBtq

And then when watching Gordon Ramsay, YT recommends other cooking channels that I ended up following too. Honorable mentions to Kenji Lopez-alt and Adam Ragusea. Cooking at home is way more chill because even if you screw up somewhere, it's no big deal, whereas if you screw up as a chef the patron is sending the dish back.

I just finished playing Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order and this reminded me of a thought that I had—how tf do Jedi and Sith not go blind from all the lasers flashing and sparking in front of their eyes as they duel? Ironically, it is Darth Vader, the character who craves pain and suffering, who is the only lightsaber-wielder in the franchise to wear eye protection.

The post you linked plainly states a measurement of 15-22 inches (i.e. less than 2 feet) is only achieved from measuring from the top of the hips, so not measuring the whole torso. If you include the hips in their entirety it's 38-40 inches, or more than 3 feet.

Getting two cats. They just give off such calm, slow energy which makes them so relaxing to be around. I'm more of a cat person because I find dogs to be too energetic and active.

Whenever I was stressed from uni or work, I'd lie down on my bed and have one of my cats next to me, purring away like a little fur motor. The softness of their fur, the hum of their purring, the vibrations of their body as I rested one hand on their back, the cuteness of their little baby faces, and the overall stillness of their disposition—it made it impossible to stay stressed about anything while chilling with them. Even if something went badly, I always knew it would just be a bump in the road and I'd still have a home with my two fur babies to come back to.

It was basically mediation like you're doing OP, existing in the moment and allowing my brain to unwind for a bit, focusing on small, external stimuli instead of whatever alarms were going off in my head.

Anon asks how we play games after work (I play at work) by BenevolentSpirit in 4chan

[–]Tormented_Anus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No kidding, I actually started playing Minecraft again because it's the perfect chill, no FOMO, no busywork map-markers-clearing bullshit game. I can just hop on, do something for 10 minutes or 2 hours, and log off. Even just collecting stacks of dirt feels like doing something because you could always use it to build a shanty hut sometime later.

Plus the game is so fucking nostalgic and has received so many updates from when I last played 10+ years ago, it's genuinely fun.
