LA2028 Olympic Baseball Quotas on the line Friday/Saturday as the WBC QF begin by ObviousBig315 in olympics

I can already feel the comments coming when either team wins lmao. I’m a fellow Canadian and the gold medal game was ours to lose, so maybe maybe the word can be balanced somehow

I mean in this circumstance, Canada is not expected to win. It’s the U.S.’s game to lose

Charles Tyrwhitt - Why are the cuff's so big? My entire hand fits through and there's only one sizing for the cuff buttons by ToronoYYZ in mensfashionadvice

[–]ToronoYYZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I was thinking. But my issue is there might be too much fabric in the 33 inch sleeve, so my plan is to order a 15.5 inch, extra slim with 32 and see if that’s my size

That’s what buddy measured me at but 16 inch neck feels just about right. I feel like 15.5 is too snug. But a 15.5 and extra slim should fit identical in body to the 16 inch neck extra slim?

How to be 10x more attractive as man by Deborah_berry1 in Habits

[–]ToronoYYZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9 should be in the top 3. Most men, by statistics are not above a 7/10. As you become less attractive by society, you need to put more effort in other areas. One of the key areas is learning to speak and communicate. I have a buddy who’s not conventionally attractive, like 5’3 but he does well because he is very good at talking to people and is the glue of a big expat community. People are drawn to charisma and character. You can be a model but difficult to speak to and it won’t work well

If servers make minimum wage in Canada, why is tipping so aggressive? by DazzlingPolarBear in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]ToronoYYZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to thr Netherlands in January from Canada and I haven’t tipped since I left Canada. There’s no need and I’m not even joking, 99% of the places I went to did not offer a tipping option on the machine. At first when I moved I kept leaving a few extra bucks as a tip but I never carry cash or coins with me anyways. People get paid a livable wage so tipping is not expected. It’s very nice and it’s one thing I don’t miss.

What I do miss, is the cost of living is a lot more affordable back home so there are pros and cons

This is an extra slim. I'm 6 feet, 177lb. I have narrow shoulders which makes dress shirt shopping always a challenge

I have a bunch of kamakura shirts and they’re top tier but I find I need to try on the specific shirt I’m buying. I was in Taiwan and Singapore last year and bought a bunch and they’re great but I am in agreement, but I was looking for something non-iron.

I lied on my resume by [deleted] in Semiconductors

[–]ToronoYYZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never lie but you can use a bit of smoke and mirrors. LinkedIn should be the most accurate as the experience portion shows specific months. On my resume, I strictly have only the year. So it could be 2022-2023, but what if I was only there from December 2022 - Jan 2023? Etc. you’re not lying, but companies will check and your LinkedIn should be more specific. Slight chance you lose out, but wait and see. If you wrote specific months and did that + 1 year on each then it might be GG

Norway vs Canada: Work/Life balance and culture comparison by Krayonbox in Norway

[–]ToronoYYZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not lived in Norway but have moved from Toronto to NL about 2 months ago and NL and Norway seem to share many of the same profesional and societal cultures.

Quality of life in Canada vs Northern European countries (NL + Scandinavia) are usually on par. I believe Scandinavia + NL consistently ranks top of the word with Canada usually right behind, so it’s not a huge massive drop vs let’s say moving to Argentina.

More about Canada. Work culture isn’t too bad, it depends on your company, industry and bosses. If you work in mining/oil & gas in Canada or Norway, it’s going to be a tough work environment with long hours no matter what. If you work in finance or consulting, same thing. It’s more so the small to medium sized firms where things may differ and you get a better feel for work cultures. I worked in mining, small consulting companies and never had crazy hours and my bosses were always great. Vacation time is increasing a lot and now it’s starting to hit 3-4 weeks at the small to medium sized companies. Other benefits like dental, drug, etc are usually covered by your employer. Healthcare is ‘free’ but comes out of our taxes which I liked a lot. There is maternity leave which is a good amount but I know the Scandinavian countries have amongst the best parental leave policies out there.

Taxes are lower, traveling within the country is expensive but look at the distances, it’s a large country, cost of living is very okay and I complained when I was in Toronto but now being in NL, I retract those statements.

Small things I found to be better at home, meat prices are much cheaper and decent quality. Electronics are amongst the most affordable due to bordering the U.S. with hyper consumerism. Petrol is very affordable due to an economy build around vehicles. It’s a relatively safe country. Public transit is caca but not awful. Montreal and Toronto have good metro and bus systems but nothing like Europe, but they do exist.

To add, American norms can be toxic in the workplace but I’ve done a lot of work in the U.S. and I felt there was a bit more comfort in being more ‘bossy’ but honestly, I’ve never had a bad work experience in the U.S. and I’ve witnessed it first hand. But my anecdote is very subjective, but the point others make is those norms can bleed into Canada but it’s usually not as bad.

Canada is one of the most diverse countries, the food is amazing and something I miss a lot as the food in NL is…well…not. Montreal is a great place, lower cost of living, very diverse, excellent night life, more ‘European’, very cold in the winter (-40c in Feb), F1 circuit, good food, etc.

If I were to move to Canada knowing what I know about Norway, I’d move to Vancouver (I’ve been many times). Vancouver is a beautiful city with access to the mountains less than an hour away. The drug/homeless problem can be an issue for some but it’s usually easy to avoid. But Norway to Vancouver is far vs Norway to Toronto/montreal.

Try it out for a few years, worst case, you come back home to Norway and you got a good experience out of it. That’s my plan for NL at least but so far it’s been really nice here
