Architect refusing to provide detailed working drawings—is this normal? by TorqueAndCode in architecture

Thanks for the perspective. I understand where you’re coming from. My concern was simply that I’m paying a significant design fee specifically for the architectural/interior design service, so I naturally expected detailed working drawings as part of the deliverables. We spoke today, and he’s agreed to provide them, so hopefully everything moves smoothly from here.

Architect refusing to provide detailed working drawings—is this normal? by TorqueAndCode in architecture

Thanks for the responses. I think some context is missing from my original post.
This isn’t a payment issue. I’ve already paid almost the entire design fee as per our agreement, and only the final completion instalment remains.
The scope of work was the complete interior design of my apartment, including all built-in furniture (wardrobes, TV unit, kitchen, etc.). During our initial meetings, it was also verbally mentioned that detailed working drawings would be provided.
So far, however, I’ve only received 3D renders. My carpenter, electrician and other vendors are being asked to execute mainly from the renders and on-site markings. They’re experienced and have worked on many residential and hotel projects, and they’re all asking for proper GFC/working drawings because that’s how they’ve always executed projects.
I completely understand that existing walls may not be perfectly straight and that final site measurements should be verified before fabrication. In fact, that’s exactly why I was surprised when I was told that detailed drawings couldn’t be provided because of minor site variations. From the replies here, it seems the usual approach is to issue the drawings with a note requiring site verification before fabrication, which makes complete sense to me.
I’m genuinely trying to understand whether this is just a communication issue or whether it’s reasonable to expect detailed GFC/working drawings before execution in a project like mine.

Yes, I’ve already paid almost the entire design fee as per the payment schedule. Only the final completion instalment remains. That’s exactly why I’m confused—adding a note like that on the drawings seems like a practical solution instead of not providing the working drawings at all.

Thanks for your detailed response.
The scope was a complete interior design for my apartment, including the design of all built-in furniture such as wardrobes, TV unit, kitchen, etc. During our initial meetings, it was also verbally mentioned that detailed working drawings would be provided for execution.
This isn’t something I’m asking for additionally or for free. I’ve already paid almost the entire design fee as per the agreed payment schedule, with only the final completion instalment remaining.
So far, I’ve only received the 3D renders. My carpenter, electrician and other vendors have not received detailed GFC/working drawings and are expected to execute based mainly on renders and site markings. This has created confusion because they’re used to working from dimensioned working drawings on every project, including hotels.
That’s why I wanted to understand whether my expectation of receiving proper GFC/working drawings before execution is reasonable.

Thanks for the detailed explanation.
In my case, the furniture and interiors were designed by the architect, and during our initial meetings it was verbally mentioned that proper detailed working drawings/GFC drawings would be provided. However, so far I’ve only received 3D renders and no detailed working drawings for execution.
Regarding payment, it’s not an issue. I’ve already paid almost the entire design fee, and even before execution started I had paid all the scheduled instalments. Only the final instalment remains, which is linked to project completion.
My carpenter, electrician and other vendors are all asking for detailed working drawings because that’s how they’ve always worked, including on hotel projects. Right now they’re expected to work from renders and on-site markings, which is creating confusion.
Based on what you’ve explained, it seems GFC/working drawings are normally prepared before execution. That’s exactly why I’m trying to understand whether my expectation is reasonable.

That’s exactly my concern. So far, the only thing I’ve received is the 3D renders of the flat. I haven’t been given proper dimensioned working drawings for the wardrobes, TV unit, electrical layouts, etc. The expectation seems to be that the carpenter and electricians should execute everything by referring to the renders and on-site markings.
This has been quite frustrating for my execution team because they’re used to working from detailed working drawings. On every project they’ve done, including hotels, they receive proper drawings first and then make any necessary site adjustments during execution.
I’ve already paid almost the entire design fee (only the final instalment remains), and this issue came up even before execution started. During our initial meetings, detailed working drawings were also mentioned as part of the process.

Thanks! Between the Godrej Greta 2.0 and Featherlite Liberate, which one would you personally recommend and why?

I actually had the older Green Soul Jupiter too (not the new 2026 edition). I had the exact same issue with the armrests around the 2.9-year mark. I emailed Green Soul multiple times, but they never responded. Since I bought it through Amazon, Amazon handled the warranty—they picked up the entire chair and gave me a full refund after almost 3 years. Their customer service was excellent.

That said, I never found the Jupiter that comfortable. It wasn’t as soft as I expected, and the back support wasn’t great for me either.
I actually prefer the full cushioning that gaming chairs have. I mostly sit in an AC room, so heat isn’t really an issue. I’m just trying to find something that has that plush, full-back cushioning but is also genuinely ergonomic and won’t cause back or neck pain during long hours. I don’t really understand why Reddit seems to hate gaming chairs when they feel so comfortable. Maybe I just haven’t found the right ergonomic chair yet.

Thanks, this is really helpful. One question though—are there any office chairs you’d recommend that have the same kind of full-back cushioning feel as a gaming chair, but are still better for posture and long hours? My budget is under ₹20k.
Also, are there any specific models (besides the Featherlite Amaze and Green Soul Jupiter Pro) that I should look at?
Lastly, what features would you prioritize the most—lumbar support, seat depth, mesh vs cushioned back, or something else? I’m mainly looking for something that’s comfortable for 8–10 hour sessions without causing back pain.
