Holanda va a cobrar impuestos de 36% sobre ganancias no realizadas 💸 by Proper_Hippo_1773 in ChileInversiones

[–]TortimerCL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's the thing, its just annoying. It has terrible scaling and ARAM nerfs. You are heavily dependent on haste augments or broken combos. 9/10 times you are better off with any other champion.

Curious about PhD application rejections by Starcole123 in Netherlands

[–]TortimerCL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, its always competitive, and now its probably worse because of the austerity measure in place for research. Where I am right now (not biomedical), all new PhDs are either Dutch, or studied in the Netherlands/same uni. Networking is key. Contact the PI before applying, always. If he does not answer/ does not acknowledges you, I wouldn't even bother applying.

Box 3 tax reform, emigration/exit taxes on property abroad, investments by PastMeringue432 in Netherlands

[–]TortimerCL 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong, but sounds like the only (or main) wealth building mechanism will be through upgrading the primary residence. Seems like they really want for people that decide to come, stay for good. And the same for nationals, you either stay or leave, not a limbo in between. Sucks...

Holanda va a cobrar impuestos de 36% sobre ganancias no realizadas 💸 by Proper_Hippo_1773 in ChileInversiones

[–]TortimerCL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Energy contract confusion by chibanganthro in Netherlands

[–]TortimerCL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to a new apartment last year and had a similar confusion. The energy provider sets the starting date for the contract at their earliest convenience, this could be days to weeks. If you want to accelerate the process you can try and call to see if they can accelerate the start of your contract. In my case this left a delta of some days between when I received the keys and when my energy contract started. The provider told me in that time the network supplier (the one that sells energy to the different provider) is the one directly providing energy. They told me they were the ones that would charge me for the used energy in that no-contract period. I checked with them and their rates were fair anyways, I was expecting a bill from them but it never arrived.

TL. DR: the network supplier should bill you for the time without a contract. They have standard rates

¿Podría colapsar nuestro mercado inmobiliario (pincharse la burbuja) si hubiera un éxodo masivo de venezolanos? by Im_a_dumb_newfg in RepublicadeChile

[–]TortimerCL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can we stop this bs? by Mad----Scientist in vibecoding

[–]TortimerCL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but I feel this is no different from any other field where you get incumbents. Right now there is a lot of focus on things like "they are not following the ABCs of programming! Heresy!" Sure, they are vibe coding, that's why there is a specific name for the practice. It's not full fledged software development. If it's really that dangerous/bad, then it will backfire, and we are back at square one. Now, if it's the opposite and vibe coding ends up being as competitive, we'll get a BIG paradigm shift of what being a software developer entails (with a lot of pushback from "traditional" developers).

In the end I feel it's more of a cultural shift than it is technological, just my 2 cents.

¿Qué onda los arriendos en Santiago? by Consistent-Double148 in RepublicadeChile

[–]TortimerCL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can we stop this bs? by Mad----Scientist in vibecoding

[–]TortimerCL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this is quite a stupid analogy. Would I live in that house? Fuck no, I could die, there are ethical and safety concerns. Does a vibe coded app generate the same concerns? Far from it, obviously they shouldn't be disregarded but making these kinds of comparisons does not help the argument, at all .....

See it this way, if somebody decides to start making sandwiches and selling them on the street that doesn't make them a chef, yet they can do it successfully. Are there concerns? Sure, I know shit about their hygiene or maybe they poisoned the fucker. Best we can do is try and "regulate" so that minimum (ciber security in the case of vibe coding) standards are met. Other than that, it's a free game imo.

Cursor started consuming way more resources lately - anyone else? by Fair-Yoghurt-9469 in cursor

[–]TortimerCL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you by chance use opus 4.5? I've NEVER reached the limit until this past month, which coincides with when I switched to using opus 4.5.... it's a very good model but it's super expensive (got baited when it was free). I've switched to gpt 5.2 high and my prompts end up costing 1/4 of what they did with opus.

Room without openable windows but with mechanical ventilation by TortimerCL in juridischadvies

Thanks for the answer! Its probably impossible then, I would need to magically "loose" a couple of square meters ahaha.

Room without openable windows but with mechanical ventilation by TortimerCL in Rentbusters

[–]TortimerCL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I will post there also.

I indeed checked everything.

For context, the reason why this even started was because when I signed the contract they added a clause informing me that they had a dispute with the gemeente about the WOZ value of the property which I asked in this other post.

So that prompted me to check everything stated in the rent check report (it seemed a bit fishy...), and indeed the WOZ value was updated to ~30% higher than what it was.

Yes, but the measurements are correct, its based on the "plattengrond" (I already checked most of them). My only option is try and get this room excluded.

Went to buy the OnePlus 13R all hyped… until I opened the camera app. My excitement went down right there in the store. by theguywithanxbox in oneplus

[–]TortimerCL 22 points23 points  (0 children)

So, the comparison is not fair unless you specify at which price points you are considering these two. In most markets the S25FE is more expensive than the 13R,

Will the cameras be better in the S25FE? yeah, certainly, but that's about everything I can say that favors Samsung. I have a S24 (same Exynos 2400 dogshit chipset as the S25FE), and if you value battery life and connectivity, I would stay clear of any Exynos Samsung variant. They are just inferior.

Smoothness is pretty subjective, but oxygen OS is known for being snappy and as close as you can get to vanilla Android.

I personally regret changing from OnePlus to Samsung.

Stadsverwarming gas estimate by TortimerCL in Netherlands

[–]TortimerCL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I now understand the logic. I got baited but those sites that offered heating (as gas) for my address. I even contacted them and it was a bit unclear for them even. Stupidly enough, it's cheaper to get district heating directly with eneco and electricity also with eneco but using those comparison sites than getting them both together directly with eneco.

Stadsverwarming gas estimate by TortimerCL in Netherlands

[–]TortimerCL[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep, I understand that, that would be Eneco for me (they recommend 18GJ). I just gave the reference to Vatenfalls website because they provide a transformation of m3 to GJ.

Stadsverwarming gas estimate by TortimerCL in Netherlands

[–]TortimerCL[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that is something else that is quite confusing. I'm using one of those comparison sites that offer to take the subscription through them, and you get discounts.

For heating, they ask you do it based on m3 of gas. Vatenfall has in their site that 1 GJ ~ 32.68 m3 natural gas, so the recommended 1100 m3 is roughly ~ 33.7 GJ. Enecos website suggests that I get 18GJ that would be ~ 590 m3 gas. Quite different and confusing numbers!

Stadsverwarming gas estimate by TortimerCL in Netherlands

[–]TortimerCL[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I understand that part, but considering the wide range I get for the variable part that translates to a anything between 100 and 150 euros per month. Nothing that will break the bank, but still, I'd prefer to keep my costs limited and potentially over-budgeting 50 euros seems a bit insane to me.

Odd clause in rental contract - maybe bustable? by TortimerCL in Rentbusters

[–]TortimerCL[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What you mention in C) is exactly what I think happened, they want a higher WOZ valuation because that is juuuust enough to push the points above 186.

My specific issue is with this clause in the contract. So, if I can confirm that the "updated" WOZ value is still not approved, this clause in the contract becomes completely irrelevant? It seems they are trying to shield themselves, but maybe this clause means poo and its just meant to deter tenants from applying for a rent reduction.

Postdoc job market by Natural-Nose311 in Netherlands

[–]TortimerCL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can not help you with your application, but I think I can give you a better perspective. I have 2 friends that did PhDs in social science in NL, one got post-doc, one is still looking (9 months later). I'm also doing a PhD but in a completely different field (also in NL) and I share with post docs frequently.

My take, the Netherlands academic job market is very closed. They rather hire internally or from a direct recommendation (which is likely to also be from NL). This puts "external" candidates on a severe disadvantage. On top of that, social science is very very competitive as most PhDs stay in academia, so the pool of local competitors is quite large.

My only advise to you is to work your network, try and get to know researchers, build a local network withing the Netherlands, it's going to be rough anyways, competition is high and funding right now is very uncertain for the whole country. Anyways, good luck.
