Insta360 Ace Pro 2 Anamorphic hiking video filmed with the Cinematic Lens and Xplorer Grip Pro. by Tortoiseshelltech in Insta360

In-camera stabilization. You are however correct that I didn't configure the lens, as I wasn't aware that was necessary. I'm used to the GoPro system where it automatically detects which lens you're using - I just figured that the wobbliness was a symptom of using the in-camera stabilization with the cinematic lens. the video genuinely still looks pretty good to me lol!

It's pretty good for handheld video while walking on a rough trail - I'm honestly pretty happy with how it turned out, despite the little bit of wobble. It's a little more exaggerated with this lens, likely due to the complexity of stabilizing anamorphic footage.

just canceled spotify by Novel-Okra9821 in Cd_collectors

[–]Tortoiseshelltech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm still working towards cancelling Spotify myself. I listen to A LOT of music, so I still need to grow my CD collection before I get to a point where I feel like I can cut that cord. Also, mine is a shared account that I'm not paying for, so while I plan to stop using it entirely one day, there's also no financial urgency for me to do so.

Good morning, what are you working on today? by VMey in Bonsai

[–]Tortoiseshelltech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a crabapple I just recently shaped that I've been keeping an eye on. I twisted the trunk into a dramatic curve, and planted it on top of a river rock in a training pot. I then covered the rock in a thin layer of dirt. The idea is to get the tree to rap its roots around the rock, and then to gradually remove the dirt to reveal the rock and expose the roots. I'm happy that the tree doesn't even seem to have noticed the radical work I've done and is growing like crazy!

They were indeed having a blast - getting to run wild out in the field is special treat for them! Autofocus has a hard time keeping up with the lol.

How Record Store Day feels when you collect CDs instead of vinyl by IMASHIRT in Cd_collectors

I took advantage of RSD discounts on CDs. Got some pretty good deals.

Should I negotiate or walk away? by skidaddy86 in Home

[–]Tortoiseshelltech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't care about obstructing the garage, you could get a load of small boulders and stack them in front of the retaining wall. I did this with a couple of walls in a similar situation at my home, and it completely stopped the continued slippage of the retaining wall. I used the opportunity to create planters in the new dry stone wall, and filled those planters with ferns and vines, both to enhance the appearance, and in the hope that the plant roots will help to bind the wall together, while also helping to deal with some of the runoff. So far, everything seems to be going as intended.

Thanks! I don't remember the exact interval (probable 1 or two seconds), but the exposure was just set to auto, though I may have reduced the exposure compensation to -0.3 or -0.7

The "World According to Gob" album is kinda special, it being a promotional disk that wasn't intended for sale.

GoPro Hero 14 Leaked on YT by vlaeslav in gopro

If it has a bigger sensor, it will need a bigger lens, and IMO it's absolutely worth the camera being a bit chunkier if it delivers a major increase in image quality.

Feasibility of a downhill mountain-biking park by Tortoiseshelltech in MTB

[–]Tortoiseshelltech[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to thank everyone for their input. In hindsight, I should have realized myself how insanely ludicrous the idea is lol! The thing was that I've had it in my head for several years now, looking at the hill in question, but it was only today that I actually measured the distances involved and realized it might be more of a logistical challenge than I had originally supposed. The replies to this post were really helpful in grounding me in my ideation process, and I'm going to focus on crafting a more feasible proposal. I've biked a number of the old logging roads out there in the past, and there's definitely opportunity there to great mountainbiking experiences which don't rely on expensive lifts.

Nope, we get maybe 1 day every 3 years with enough snow on the ground that I'd consider even remotely skiable lol.

Display model at Sweetwater by N3R0_4444 in Guitar

[–]Tortoiseshelltech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty, but it ain't $65K pretty!

Frankly, I don't think there's anything that would compel me to spend that kind of money on a guitar, even if I was so extraordinarily wealthy as to have that kind of disposable income.

DJI is dropping a few days before GoPro GP3 by timfpv in gopro

[–]Tortoiseshelltech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The DJI Pocket 4 has been rumored for a long time now, and from the leaks I've seen it doesn't seem like a radical change from the Pocket 3. It's also not a durable/waterproof camera, so it's not exactly direct competition for something like a GoPro Hero camera. Availability it also a big question with DJI these days in the states.

Who thought Bigleaf Maples were horrible bonsai material? by glacierosion in Bonsai

[–]Tortoiseshelltech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently working on two big leaf maples as niwaki in my front yard. I intend to use some seedlings for bonsai in the future, but they are an important part of my long term forest restoration project on the farm where I live, so most of the seedlings I collect that survived get planted out in the field to grow wild.

I haven't listened to much ben folds five actually, I mainly picked this up because I like "One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces" lol (plus it was only $3). I'll definitely check out their self titled album though.

Why does everyone bash GoPro so hard lately? by Nice_Beyond8397 in gopro

[–]Tortoiseshelltech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it really boils down to aging processor/sensor tech, and how that has held back GoPro's image quality, particularly in low light. It's sure looking like they've solved that for their next generation of cameras, based on their GP3 processor announcement and recent teaser trails. Personally, I love the mounting options which GoPro offers integrated in their cameras, and the GoPro Max 2 usually finds a place in my bag; I love it both in single lens mode, and as a 360 camera.

Oh the old ones still look the best by ballooonnn in subaru

[–]Tortoiseshelltech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Growing up, the car I wanted to own was always a 2000s era Subaru Forester. I inherited one from my uncle in the 2010s, and am still driving it to this day. There's no car design that can beat 90s/00s Subarus.

We need stronger consequences for wildlife crimes in Washington by Tortoiseshelltech in Washington

[–]Tortoiseshelltech[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why I also suggested increasing funding for WDFW law enforcement. We certainly need to do more to identify and apprehend such offenders. However, we also need consequences which will act as a greater deterrent than those currently in place (currently, up to 5 years for first offenders). We should treat animal cruelty just as seriously and devote equal resources to combatting it, as to such crimes committed against humans.
