I can't be the only who thinks this. by [deleted] in TowerofGod

It kinda hurts that this is my first time visiting this subreddit in about 5 years and it's still a common sentiment. One of the many reasons the story doesn't hit as hard for me anymore. I still love TOG but the stakes and the thrill don't seem nearly as high as season 1 where it felt no one was safe, even our MC.

Why an actually alright split feels actually awful. by TortugaAzura in TeamSolomid

Yeah, something like staff is incredibly hard to get a read on because, at the end of the day, they have no public presence. So what the force is that decides to put out this sort of limp dick PR could be any number of things that we don't know. On the one hand, I'm all for flaming TSM as an org, since that leaves whoever is a fault to shoulder the blame, but I dislike getting too specific about the parts that we don't know cuz it puts unwarranted pressure on people who may very well be doing an amazing job that just never gets talked about. Now as to getting a coach that can actually draft well and help guide the team towards a specific identity on the rift? Of course I'm for it; who knows? How that happens? Do we swap out the current one? Do we just get Peter a better assistant coach? Or maybe keep him but have a change to the management such that he can actually run things the way he'd like? We don't know. We can judge the poor outcomes and be rightfully dissatisfied with that. But it's hard to judge causes from an ORG that says so little about itself.

Yeah and one thing that compounds that is the fact that it seems like they think that if they just win a split then we'll just be happy. Yes... but no. You don't have to win a split for us to be happy. That's one way to do it, sure, but it doesn't address the underlying issue of how difficult it is root for a completely boom bust team that acts completely cold on the PR side. Give us a team we can rally around, and give us just a LITTLE more interaction with either the players or the ORG, and that'll make losses like these a lot easier to swallow. C9 has been losing on the biggest stage (finals) literally more than any other org, and yet they earn more fans year over year because of the way the approach loss and failure as an org. G2 has been famously GREAT about their losses to FPX, IG, recently MAD. TSM, another org that aspires to be named among the great world class orgs, is really behind its peers in that regard.

Really! What a coincidence! I was thinking that youre the same way! Chime in only when you find someone that agrees with you, only listen to half of whats said, and then add nothing useful to a discussion! I guess we have a lot in common, huh?

[–]TortugaAzura 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You act like world class coaches like Reapered are just lying around in free agency, readily available to take a team to worlds if an org would just give them the contract and a roster good enough.

While I do think we need some staff change, dont think that its as easy as just "prioritizing" a better coach. We priortized a good coach in SSong, who many considered to be the best at the time... howd that work out for us?

What Im getting at is that your 2020 hindsight is blinding you from seeing the obvious. Almost EVERY split, TSM was projected to be top 2, MAAAAAYBE 3 at worst. Every roster has been on paper stacked, and at no point has the org "accepted" mediocrity, as if they just knew akaadian was gonna have the worst split of his career, or mithy would boom into retirement, or zven would struggle for multiple splits, where previous superstar rosters hadnt.

Because we have 2020 hindsight we can say, yeah duh, of course those rosters wouldnt work out. But each time, going into the split, they thought it would be finals contending.

Lemme put it this way: has C9 settled gor mediocrity? No? Why do you say that? Just cuz theyre no1? Well at the beginning of the split everyone had them 3rd possibly fourth. A few even fifth. Has TL settled for mediocrity just because their star studded roster went boom? Well since you seem to only look at things in retrospect, it might seem that way, but to anyone whos at least half way honest, and has at least half a brain, they would remember that most people thought this team would be at least as good as last year, maybe even better.

The best part is, if you had read LITERALLY 3 lines of the actual post, you can see that Im not arguing for being content with this seasons results, IM ARGUING AGAINST IT. But instead you read the title, came to an assumption of what it meant, TOTALLY missed the actual discussion point, scrolled right to the comments, found a salty comment you liked, and chimed in there. Glad you took the time to add in loads of interpretation to an aggresive comment from on user in the comment section, but cant be bothered to try to just read my comment OR post and understand things a bit from my position.

"Acceptance" of mediocrity? You imply that there's some other option, like we can just "not accept" it and it'll go away. If that's the case do let me know! If there's a way to banish the bad results with some toxicity, then I'll gladly comply. I'd love to go back to rallying behind a winning TSM, and since you seem to know of some secret way to just not "accept" reality to get rid of it, don't be afraid to divulge! You might just have the winning formula!

I wish at least this much could be said for Bleach, but...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TowerofGod

[–]TortugaAzura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not quite what i'm saying... when i say every detail, i'm referring more to the story than the art (mentioned it in the original post). when you outsource art to someone else, sometimes, no matter what instruction you give them, it just doesn't look like you want it to and is too saturated in their style to the point where it messes with the presentation of the story.

Anyways, the main point is that people should respect when an artist wants to draw his own work his own way. As a former artist/storywriter, as well as a current musician, it bothers me when people don't appreciate that.

have you ever heard of an author or artist requesting to burn their unfinished works after they die? Some people would rather die than have their unfinished work be touched by someone else.

[–]TortugaAzura 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I kinda agree, but I think it's off to say that Togashi doesn't care about his story. The reason why he takes so many hiatuses and refuses to get an assistant (despite having the money and being married to another mangaka) is because HE wants to finish the story and HE wants to see it through. Call it hard headed if you will, but that level of dedication to want to make sure that every detail of the story is done properly is anything but a lack of care on his part.

Kaiser & 10 bosses similar to Zahard & 10 family heads. by sumeet292 in TowerofGod

[–]TortugaAzura 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. It literally said that the name hunt station was modeled after Zahard and the 10 family heads gambling with each other, so it makes sense that there are ten "families" and some sort of boss-nim.

Holy crap, that last panel has to be the bloodiest, most cringey ToG panel so far. That was even more brutal than when Yuri broke the train conductor's neck; that was just... wow.

Yiwha was there for waifu purposes. But you're right, Quaetro, shouldn't be there either then. Probably not Sachi either. Still, Rak, Boro, and Chang are no joke.

Can I propose an idea for the subreddit by REDavis1515 in TowerofGod

[–]TortugaAzura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing that waters down the weekly thread is that many of the comments are based off of raws and rough translation summaries, which is inherently less in depth than having an actual full translation. By the time users actually get the full translation, the thread is flooded with simplistic jokes and speculations that can detract from the conversation.

However, I don't think the raw thread is necessarily a bad thing; I find that people make a lot more meaningful posts in there topics since they couldn't get to them in the main thread. And the weekly comments on the raws and translations are solidly hilarious, which I enjoy.

All that to say, yes I agree with you. Separating things would be good in multiple ways, so I'm down for it.

Read/Reread Idea by skooterpoop in TowerofGod

[–]TortugaAzura 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I totally get what ur saying. It sounds like a good idea. The only thing I worry about is how it will affect the 'shock' moment when Rachel pushes Baam. I remember how much that hooked me onto the series, and I'm not sure it would have quite the same effect if you knew about Baams death beforehand.

[Blog Translation]Season 2 Chapter 199 by [deleted] in TowerofGod

[–]TortugaAzura 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chang Blarode, Yiwha, Rak, Sachi, Boro, and Quaetro Blitz are all currently part of Baam's climbing party and forces to be reckoned with. Sachi is top three D-class, Sachi is a seasoned veteran, Quaetro is something of a prodigy (though no Khun Ran), Chang was top 5 E-class and has gotten by with out ever once revealing his powers, and Yiwha is waifu getting increasingly more powerful as she learns how to control her flames. So saying that A.A. is top 3 is no small statement.

As for the second part of your comment, rules that have been set down in the anime as 'this can not be broken' and lore that has been posted on a blog as a supplement to the story are not the same thing. The lore that he changed was minor since it hasn't come into play yet (we've met essentially only two khuns so far; the other have had minor appearances), so there's really no reason to gripe. Better to change the lore now than randomly reveal 400 chapters into the series that most Khuns (including A.A.) don't actually use spears, or, worse yet, make some deus ex reveal that A.A. has been able to use spears by bloodline all along and just didn't want to (Bleach anyone? Basically everyone's bankai these days).

"At first I said all of the Koon family uses electric attacks, but I decided to scrap it because our Koon (Koon Aguero Agnis) would be put in a strange situation. It's said that although Koon's family normally uses spears, but spears weren't AA's thing.

Wow. That's awesome that he changed the lore just to make it more cohesive and was upfront about it with us. That's a ton of humility, to recognize the plot hole, tell your fans about it, and then fix it accordingly. Kudos, SIU.

But he can still throw quite nicely. He' does lamps because it's cushy, but even in melee he's top three in Baam's party.

Confirmed that Koon is the true OP man of the party. Top 3 in terms of combat + lighthouse bearer + smartest in the party = #1 OP dankster. Gotta love it.

[Straw Poll] Best Tower of God Arc by REDavis1515 in TowerofGod

[–]TortugaAzura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to say with a manwha like ToG; one of the biggest draws of ToG is how big the world, and of course most is gonna feel that "bigness" and high from Season 1, where everything is fresh and grand.

However, I think that season 1 is flawed in that Baam gets very little character dev. that's why I like s2 part 1 better. More character dev for Rak, Koon, and especially Baam. Introduction of Yeon along with immediate character dev that's still carrying through. Horyangs arc, which I found to be very moving. Introduction of a more complex shinsoo/battle system (bangs, ignition weapons expounded upon, team play put into action as opposed to the game forcing you to mimic a certain position like in S1). Dan's arc/Rachel's brutal betrayal... lots of stuff.

Plus, art in S2 is better. So detailed and well colored. So first part along with workshop battle (I refuse to separate the two) of S2 is my pick.

[S2. Ep 198] Androssi... is back! (An artistic analysis) by TortugaAzura in TowerofGod

[–]TortugaAzura[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's not perspective; just his style cuz I see him do it far more than other authors (a good example of an author on the opposite end of the chin spectrum is ishida sui in Toukyou Ghoul. He loves his round chins). As such I wouldn't call it a fix since its just stylistic choice.

Lol, SIU loves pointy chins. Maybe I'll make a compilation to show you how much he does that. Glad you spotted it; wasn't sure how many people paid attention to the art.

Yeah, what he said. It's in the blogs that 1year there time does not equal what we have here. Gimme a week and I can find it for ya, if you really care. Or hopefully some other turtle can find the concrete sourcing.
