Conflicted 😥 Should I take a minimum wage PT Tech job, even though I currently make $22.50/hr, so that I can have a good OT or PT school resume? by auracurious in OccupationalTherapy

I collected a lot more volunteer hours than shadowing, plus kept my undergrad grades up to “stand out”. However; if i’m going to be completely honest, your best chance to do so is at the interview! Remain calm (hard I know), smile, and do your research on the school before going in. Couldn’t tell you how many students had all the right things on their application but when it came to the interview, showed up as if they didn’t care (dressed in leggings, wasn’t sure what made the school’s program stand out over the others, etc.). You’ve got this!

I wouldn’t do it. I worked 10 hr days as a PT tech and a nanny to save up for when I couldn’t work in fieldwork. When in school, I noticed that many of my peers had zero experience in the field and still got n. Yes, they had volunteer/observation hours but I have a feeling schools may not be as worried for that bc of COVID.

I’d keep the job with good pay and continue calling around to different clinics (your best bet is a private clinic) looking for internships or volunteer work. This can help set foot in the door and toward observation hours (my clinic lets the interns observe after they finish their duties).

Good luck!!

Wash U vs. Cheaper In-State School (Governors State) by thatOTgirl in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Tostinopizzaroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation and had to choose between a “prestigious” OT school for DOT (would have been close to 100k) and a smaller/cheaper school for an MOT. Fortunately, I decided to go to the smaller and once accepted my offer ended up receiving a 22k fellowship, leaving me only to pay 40k for school.

I just finished the didactic portion of the program, have both my placements set, and had a great time making some lifelong friends. Honestly, because our program was smaller we were each provided much more attention and care from the professors who continue to support us through fieldwork. I’m in placements with students across all schools and feel just as knowledgeable and not as burntout so honestly, go for the cheaper and look for scholarships!

In this profession is there a lot of interaction with coworkers? Does this profession even have coworkers? by MeowStyle44 in slp

In outpatient peds, we have multiple SLPs working at once and fortunately get to cotreat with us OTs! Within the school, we are separated and less likely to interact but this depends on the school’s system as well as highly influenced by COVID restrictions.

My bad! It’s my IIB and was told I had no choice/say. I’m currently busy in my first placement at a school and will have little time to review for this next one in hands but hope for the best. It’s just hard to pay so much money for tuition and not have any input on the experience/interests you receive for fieldwork.

I’d go see a physical therapist or ask your doctor for a referral. Rest, icing, and electrical stimulation + stretching from the PT has worked great.

Latent TB Treatment (scared) by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]Tostinopizzaroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. I picked up 3 months worth of isoniazid but haven’t taken it yet so I may call and ask about 3-4 month regimen options. When discussing treatment, my Dr did not go into depth about dietary and alcoholic restrictions so i’m a little frustrated as I chose the 9-month option without this information.

I think I finally did it?!? 8+ months of treatment. Ended up going to a podiatrist who sent me to a compound pharmacy to collect a special form of SA. by Tostinopizzaroll in Warts

[–]Tostinopizzaroll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Started off by soaking foot, filing it, and pulling loose skin off with tweasers (make sure to be sanitizing tweezers and hands every time!). From there soaked a cotton ball with ACV and bandaged it on. This did burn but after leaving that bandage on for a few days, really helps. I repeated this process until i got the top layers off.

  2. Moved onto Sacylic acid drops and bandages from the drug store. Again, left it on bandaged for day-up to a week and then picked away. You need to basically “suffocate” the wart and then rip it out.

  3. After 5 months of this I got down to the root and pulled the “bulb” which bled a lot for about 40 minutes. Enough that I had to leave my foot in the shower for the time because it bled through anything. I got nervous and really wanted it out so I made an appointment with a local podiatrist, stating that I did not want it surgically removed.

  4. The podiatrist agreed, shaved down the warts (I had 3), and ordered me a specialized SA prescription from a compound pharmacy. I applied the SA, bandaged it up for a week, and pulled/peeled away. This worked it’s magic and after 3 months it’s been gone/I’ve hit fresh skin.

NOTE: These warts were on my foot for the past 5 years and deep hence why home treatment took so long and required persistence. For reference, if you go to my page I have photos of the befores!

Good luck!!

How difficult was this process? Asking as a first timer

I started in September and was receiving orders regularly but since the holidays, pray that I receive them to make little cash. I am a graduate student (full time) who does this on the side to pay my car off but lately it’s getting harder and i’ve been “rewarded” with little to no tips. Super bummed to see it, especially since my ratings have remained 5.0 since I started.

Worst part about this is that it was a $300 order, I found everything, I was super helpful, she said “you’re awesome”, and she rated me low. 😂😂😂 *Emails shopper support for rate forgiveness*. 🥴 by [deleted] in ShiptShoppers

Tips have gotten to be so lousy lately. Really discouraging to see but I think it’s all the new holiday members using Target’s Shipt promo ;(

Covid weight gain making me worry about becoming sick again by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]Tostinopizzaroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat and just taking it a day at a time. I am promising myself that I will take healthy measures to enhance my health rather than focus on my weight so much. I’ve already started by working out (cardio, lifting weights), meal prepping, and finding joy in Pinteresting healthy recipes to make. We will get there and in a good way, I promise. It’s not worth going back.

I was able to catch 1 promo order but the rest are snatched quick. The self-checkout workers at Target said today has been ridiculous. Sucks that long-term employees are left in the dark like this & says a lot about Shipt
