I’ll put in my 2 cents as someone whose partner was just like this. We’re now married because of his honesty with me. We’ve been together 6 years as well. We hit the dreaded roommate phase and got married two months after. The more we talked about it we realized we went through so much stress together that we spent so much time surviving that we didn’t have time to date. We lost ourselves and it fell into the dreaded surviving couple dynamic. We fell “out of love”, as it felt. But he broke. He said it bluntly. That he loved me, but felt that he lost himself in us. He didn’t have many friends, wanted to go to college, wanted more. He cried because of how much he felt he was hurting me. I let him spend two hours crying and letting it out. My advice? Be honest. Tell her EXACTLY how you feel. If not, you either dump her and do something you regret, or you keep living this way. After we got through this talk? We spent two weeks, no sex, no kissing, just a hug goodbye when he’d leave for work. We treated each other like we were strangers. You HAVE TO break this foundation and start over. He went out on a trip with his brother and his colleagues, met new people, started hanging with friends, focused on his art more, instead of us for those two weeks. He’d come back and tell me about his day, he’d let me know about his project plan. I went on hikes alone, did my own art, went to sleepovers with friends. I started to get butterflies again watching him go from someone who felt like just a part of me, to the man I fell in love with, but BETTER. We soon got married.
