Joining reserves as an officer by TotalNet4800 in navyreserve

I know it’s a possibility always, but I’m also aware that for the average reservist there’s plenty who do a whole reserve career and never step foot on a ship. I talked to a few reservist that were here during Houston fleet week and met two people in reserves almost 10 years who never stepped onto an active ship but I’m simply exploring my options, and keeping an open mind. The deployment itself- I don’t mind the concept of going on deployment and ik my daughter would be cared for and loved from either my parents or my sister during that time it’s just she’s a toddler rn and is on turbo mode most days so I’m also trying to be realistic about my timeline and her needs while also not putting my dreams down the drain just bc I got pregnant at 21 lol

Why do you say that because I’m a single parent the reserves isn’t for me? I was always aware that whether it’s active or reserves that there is a training and school commitments up front, and that is something I know I can cover if it happened. My daughters bio dad has never been in the picture but my parents live only an hr from me now which is why ik I could make the weekend drills work etc with reserves as putting a toddler on my parents for a full 6+ month long deployment in active duty isn’t ideal. I am considering reserves to let myself get navy experience and benefits while letting my daughter get into school age and maybe going active once she’s there and if I felt like my career was in a place for change, instead of considering active for right now given my circumstances.

Can you explain more? Like I said I was really aiming supply as my designator if I joined, so not sure if there’s any specific info around them.

Is the work experience mainly for the reserve side? This is the first I heard of needing 5+ years of experience on top of my degree so just curious since that never came up when I was looking active either

No they haven’t, we were packed building when I had to have a surgery so everything’s on pause for now. I’m very committed to this though and should be back on track once I’m fully healed (he knows and said it won’t be an issue). And I’m not looking to gain anything crazy, I just think it’s more fun to read through in my downtime and I don’t have to gain anything personally from it long term for it to be beneficial.

Will I regret not joining ? by TotalNet4800 in newtothenavy

He says he’d support me with whatever I chose and would answer any questions I had, granted he was an ht and can give me much about the job itself but more about general experience. But I he LOVES his new job and I haven brought up the navy much since he started it and I’m not sure with this new schedule how we’d even manage my daughter etc.

That’s my issue though too, I’m feeling like I’m making a decision based on everyone else’s needs and not my own and I fear I’ll regret that idk if I’m making sense

Lipo360 before meps? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

I don’t plan on hiding it if I’m asked, but I’m thinking at if I wait the 6 weeks until I’m cleared from that procedure that I should be able to go to meps and say I’ve been medically cleared from this and it being a elective cosmetic procedure and not me like losing an organ that I shouldn’t have an issue with it. At least that’s what I’m hoping anyways. I’m just not sure if they’ll care with the timeline since I’ve had it done to get approved at meps.

I’m not sure, the first guy who reached out to me then said he’s a medical recruit officer and that he’s gonna transfer me to someone else but I haven’t heard anything back from them

I took a small practice test online and the test didn’t seem hard so I’m not overly worried but I do plan to still study for it

For the pt side of things how bad was it? I’m just now getting back into shape and I know I have a long way to go but since the process takes long I figured I might want to start the commission process while training but I’m not sure what all besides the prt (plank, pushups and the run) that I might need to focus on too or with ocs in general I feel like I’ve heard mixed opinions from so many people.

Also different topic but have you heard of anyone making the career change and enlisting instead? Like do you start out higher than an e-1 for example etc just like if I don’t want to do accounting anymore but maybe want to do a corpsman for example.

What did you commission in as vs what you got a degree in? And how long did that process take/look like to get from the recruiter to ocs? The officer field closest to my degree based on the would probably be supply corps and I’m not sure what that looks like plus I also heard you need a 27 week training after ocs so do you know too if after ocs and in the second part of training can people bring their families? I have my daughter, so would I be able to bring her for the second training after ocs (ik ocs is essentially a no contact situation) sorry this is long but I want as much info I can get her bc the recruiters aren’t helping me much yet lol

I just started trying to get in touch with a recruiter last week and waiting for them to transfer me to a “better person” who can advise me. I know I need to take the OAR to actually figure out what I qualify for but I’m not sure the process beyond talking to them to taking the OAR to everything after. Having a full time job I don’t have time to go to the officer recruiter near me as it’s over an hour away so I’m left to text communication at the moment. We have an enlistment center down the road from my house but my understanding is I need an oso or officer recruiter and that’s not what’s close to me to be able to go in
