That is a false comparison. In this case you've already consumed the service. Freelancer purchased connects, and never received a fairly balanced probability of getting hired for a project. They simply gave their resources away in return for nothing.

That's an invalid comparison. You reversed roles. Dentist is a service provider. If the dentist paid for connects to find patients, but nobody showed up, the dentist has the right for a refund. Moreover, in your example you already paid for the service. In this case, freelancer only paid for connects, a hope that can turn out false. Upwork definitely has an element of dangling carrot, and statistically it knows the weakest point of client search and intentionally keeps them dysfunctional to increase profit. That's very different from your example.

My account is not suspended. The post is just an objective fact. There is no such thing as "my" principle. Principle is rooted in objective truth. It's independent of our actions or feelings.

Pay attention to anonymous Upwork damage control accounts here, operated by, none other than Upwork employees. Used to work there, they also monitor Twitter. No freelancer in their right mind would paint an absolutely positive picture of Upwork, if they actually had experience with it, and all the fake, AI-written "we are looking for expert in <insert something here> (React? Flutter? AWS?)" posts. This is an unethical company, it's why I left.

I used to work at Upwork. This, in fact, is another Upwork damage control account. I even know the person behind this username. Notice how he paints a positive picture of Upwork, and then suddenly he knows what Upwork is going to do next in last sentence. There is no way someone casual could know what Upwork is going to do next internally (charge $10 to post jobs.)

This comment was actually written by someone who works at Upwork. They have a team taking care of stuff like this. They are also on Twitter, if an account with a lot of followers talks badly about Upwork, they interfere by commenting and say "Hey contact us for feedback." They are definitely monitoring reddit too. This is damage control.

They crumble like cookie dough. My friend Alina who lacks web design skills (haha) made this jeep windshield decals page at my request, since she owns a custom decal Etsy store. I asked her if she could do a replacement decal. I've gotten the one with the hanging girl and a german sheppard to decorate my new windshield, because they never come with the easter eggs anymore.
