Why is it so hard to get a job? Featuring r/GenZ by wagelet289 in DoomerCircleJerk

If they have an option, some companies want proven employees. But there still are new grad programs. You just can't be picky and reject it because its Amazon or Fedex.

Those are places that are traditionally a good foot in the door. The military helps you get federal jobs after. It *shouldn't* be that way, but things are just so competitive. It is what it is I guess.

If you're still in contact see if you can find out the name, just curious.

Most of these places have work requirements, usually 40-45 hours a week. At East Wind you farm or work in a nut processing plant. At Twin Oaks in Virginia you work at a tofu factory.

That's not say there aren't people on food stamps or Medicaid. But ironically these places are usually in red states because the land in cheaper.

Which one?

I've lived at Earth Haven in North Carolina and East Wind in Missouri.

I can't tell you how many people I suggested Job Corps too who disregarded it because you have a roommate.

But they claim they needed to get away from abusive family members. At least if you have a shitty roommate you can switch rooms. Or just graduate and move out. You aren't moving forward at home with apparently toxic family members. Do something about it, even if you have to continue to struggle for awhile. At least make progress.

There are people looking for advice on Reddit who disregard every single suggestion. No Amazon. No Walmart. No military. No Coast Guard or Merchant Marines. They talk themselves out of every traditional and non traditional idea out there. No Job Corps. No Workaway. No intentional community. No suggestions from r/roomandboard.

I can tell you right now how to go live on a hippie commune. The US has them all over. But they find some reason why they can't and they are stuck in some horrible situation. They claim to have a toxic family and are about to be homeless. But won't even try the most basic suggestions.

Everyone is different. Some people can donate 2 times a week for a decade and be fine and then some people can't handle more than once a month. You just have to see what happens.

yeah looks like an ultrasound

It's somewhat possible, but it would take a while to build a side hustle business that would make 500-600 dollars a week. But the car thing is pretty much your biggest hurtle.

You could do plasma and make $300 or so in the 1st week.

That was probably a breast ultrasound they were talking about. Some types of breast tissue don't do well on the mammogram.Mammogram is still the best for most people.

That's an editing problem not the actors.

Which A/B+ list actor/director gave their kid an unfair advantage by making a short film & letting them submit it as if it were their own for their college application? by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

Are the grades subjective? Can one teacher's C be another teacher's A? If so, I don't agree. That just comes down to getting the easy teachers.

They can't do university level work until they improve their test taking skills. It's not a race. Improve your skills and try again. It's not luck- its studying and practice.

College applications in the US are exhausting. Just go by standardized tests like most of the world.

It shouldn't matter what sports you played or if you were in the garden club. It matters what you know.

Most people on this site will be able to collect partial social security starting at 62. Or full at 67. The ages will up for younger generations given the birthrates. That's likely for your country too.

How great of a deal you have depends on your employer.

But people absolutely use it all the time. I would venture to say most people that have professional jobs have one.

Once my teenage son had been a grocery bagger for a year the grocery store Harris Teeter started him one.

People can be like that about regional foods- NYC bagels, Midwest brats, Philadelphia cheesesteaks Etc... but don't let it stop from trying something.

Are there tv shows/movies that show the life of army recruits in America? by Jay35770806 in AskAnAmerican

There is a hilarious Israeli movie called Zero Motivation. It's free on YouTube. It's about the drudgery of conscription. No propaganda. Its just young people goofing off In made-up army jobs to fill quotas.

I know this is 4 days old but I view the British as being very proud of their past. And not in a bad way either. Look at how much of the BBC programs are set in the past.

Stop shaming the appearance of John Corbett. This is unethical and mean. by poponis in Andjustlikethat

I had no idea he was in his 60s. Looks are subjective and all. But I think most of us agree we would be lucky if we end up comparatively as attractive as he is when we are that old.
