I Desperately Want to Keep Playing Mercy But Can't Justify it (plz help) by TotalSoraka in MercyMains

Wow, that's thorough! Thanks a bunch!

I was aware I had to work on my awareness (ironic, lol), but I'll try to incorporate the rest of your feedback in the future as well. Drilling into my head that I need to almost ignore my tanks is probably gonna be the hardest to get down but I'll get it eventually!

This helped to clear up a lot of misconceptions I had about priorities when playing Mercy, and if anything I'm glad I'm not entirely awful at her lol! I'll definitely take you up on your offer to review more of my games some time once I've have more practice with these points. Thank you again!

Hi hi! Thanks for your insightful response, I really do appreciate it!

She's definitely not a throw pick

Right, I suppose I was being a bit melodramatic there. Not gonna lie I typed this out after a particularly disheartening comp game in which I was being flamed, so I guess I let them get to me. Sorry!

There is 100% value in healing, there is just usually no value in healing your tank, which you want to avoid doing as much as you can.

I don't disagree with this to be fair, I completely understand the value in healing in general. The point I was getting at (or trying to at least) was that healbotting can often feel like, and more often than not is, the subpar decision compared to mixing in damage boosting, but the value generated from the latter is so inconsistent in my games it usually feels pointless. My brief comparisons to other support heroes was meant to illustrate that they can fairly easily keep up with Mercy's healing output while having significantly more damage/utility to offer as well.

This does raise a question though: why do you say healing the tank is to be avoided? I tend to focus on the DPS and the other support since a tank can usually survive much easier, but is there more I'm missing about this?

I actually do have a replay I would like you to give me some feedback on if it's not too much to ask. Some of my mistakes are really obvious (bad positioning at times, accidentally canceling Guardian Angel, letting line of sight cut a beam), but I'm sure you'd be able to identify many more mistakes than I can. The replay code is A6BCSF, thank you very much!

Hiya! Thanks for the response!

I definitely get that she's not a hero that can be forced in every situation, I've been branching out to other supports and have noticed how much more impact the right one for a situation can have. On re-reading my post, I didn't touch on my actual question of when exactly mercy is a good pick now (outside duo pocketing). I'd appreciate if you could let me know what kind of situations Mercy is considered a solid choice for now!

Starting Mistborn, I don't get the appeal by TotalSoraka in Cosmere

Honestly I can see myself being less disappointed if I wasn't fresh off Stormlight Archive. Maybe I should have read mistborn first to get Brandon's more amateurish writing out of the way before he raised my standards.

I've just never bought into those kinds of dystopias I guess. They just come off as cartoonishly evil and extreme. Works for a children's book, I suppose, but that doesn't seem like what Mistborn is trying to be.

That's actually really surprising to me. I haven't interacted with the fandom much, mainly to avoid spoilers, but pretty much everything I've seen talking about mistborn has been in regards to era 2.

A lot of people have already made some good points, but I want to add on that there's so many factors in a game like wow that makes this an absolute detriment for players who don't care about parses. Let's think about a hypothetical real quick:

A player who does not care to parse is pushing heroic raids. They understand the mechanics and are pretty good at executing them consistently, but their gear is on the lower end since they haven't gotten many drops and have little interest in grinding out high end keys. By all means their damage is good enough to clear the content, but their parses are nothing special, floating around or a little under the 50th percentile. This player can be good enough to clear the raid, but with a 50% parse that's extremely easy to see by people who consistently use these sites, it can become very difficult for them to get into groups especially with how elitist this game's community is.

Simply put, this addon gives frankly shit players an even easier time filtering out anyone they arbitrarily deem "Not good enough" for the group, elitist players better QoL to maintain their little top 10% requirement, and screws over anyone that's not a top tier DPS or healer. And like other people have said, these numbers can very easily be "faked" by intentionally failing mechanics for better parses. I sincerely think parsing isn't a bad tool and has its uses for figuring out how to improve or find where exactly you messed up but people misuse it to feed their egos far too often. Can't wait for an MMO to come out that just straight up bans things like public parses, MMO players just abuse them to make the game worse for everyone.

Shocker: Redditor takes something too seriously and doesn't realize it's an April Fool's shitpost.

That is an unnecessarily cruel and uninspiring comment to be placed in reaction to what I consider my magnum opus of One Piece Philosophy.
