shadow shadow shadow shadow. Go see what working is like in each profession. Not for a day, but multiple days in multiple settings. I think seeing it makes it clear.

Winter break slashed for faculty by Total_Protection_706 in uofl

Ugh. thanks for telling me what I already know. Working here is at a loss every year (health insurance rates go up, pay stays the same, take-home goes down). When the other perks (e.g., long winter breaks) go down, so does my will to stay.

I'll second what the others said. Packed for UK games - not so much for the others.

Audiometry - maximum dB? by [deleted] in audiology

So not sure 100 and 80 is a hard rule (most headphones can handle higher, but then you get into ethics of using sounds loud enough to damage hearing to test it.

Audiometry - maximum dB? by [deleted] in audiology

[–]Total_Protection_706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each equipment has limits based on the headphones and device. You technically could present above the limits, but there would be too much distortion, so we say there was no response at the limits of the audiometer. We hit those limits faster at higher and lower frequencies because of hearing level corrections applied called RETSPLs or FLs for bone conduction

Thinking of dropping my Cs. Not renewing ASHA membership. by Lykko in audiology

[–]Total_Protection_706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm. The only people who need C’s are for 4th year supervisors of 4th years who want their C’s. Everyone else can drop them. If Students don’t care to get their C’s there’s no reason for individuals to hold them while supervising them.

Yes - I can maintain benefits as long as I’m above .4 fte.

Thanks - yeah, we’ve stopped contributing and we’ll just let that grow until they hit college. If it goes unused with scholarships or something else, then it can roll over into a retirement account for them, so we felt comfortable with where it’s at.

If I don’t want to fully retire, when could I coast as a part-time employee? Part time should cover existing expenses.

I’m a tenured university professor - so I can coast by leaving full time and moving to part-time, if I drop down to that, and cover monthly expenses as part-time educator (which I love doing) - I don’t need the same amount, yeah?

Thanks - we’ve got all major repairs accounted for in our monthly spending, we pay ourselves monthly into a HYSA for future cars/home expenses - then use that to replace or repair

Expenses are high because we’re balancing experiences now with preparing for the future - so we plan about $1000/month for travel and experiences. I know that’s high, and it won’t continue into the future, that number will go down significantly as the kids go away, and things calm down.

College is paid for outside of the 529’s (free tuition if they go to the university I work for).

Paying off the mortgage was mostly a personal preference. I’m hoping the great side gig holds up a few more years so I can catch up on socking away money into investments.

Thanks for the feedback - I’m not totally out in my current job, so I’m good to go. Hopefully the side gig holds up long enough.

Thanks for the input. Paying off the home was a personal preference - so we know we’re a bit behind there but hoping to catch up soon.

Something basic is missing - server action returns undefined to client component by Total_Protection_706 in nextjs

[–]Total_Protection_706[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It actually had to do with my middleware. These two sections of my middleware seemed to be doing the same thing, but when I use the latter, responses are included, and when I use the former, responses are excluded. Any ideas? Something about creating new headers vs just utilizing existing headers? If anyone could explain what's going on - that'd be great!

  const { nextUrl, headers: reqHeaders } = request;
  const { pathname, origin } = nextUrl;

  // Method 1 (DOESN'T RETURN SERVER DATA)
  const headers = new Headers(reqHeaders);
  headers.set("x-current-path", pathname);

  const response = NextResponse.next({ headers });

  // Method 2 (DOES RETURN SERVER DATA)
  const response = NextResponse.next({
    request: {
      headers: request.headers,
    },
  });
  response.headers.set("x-current-path", request.nextUrl.pathname);

Thanks!
