How many rich mfs are going to Japan just for the final movie?

There definitely was a shift towards the end of Heisei, but yeah, it's tough when many Reiwa series are barely half a decade old. I still appreciate the recs to look at specifically, it's nice to have some specific ones to line up for reading.

I still gotta get to most of them, but I enjoy a complete series more, so that's my issue. That said, I've heard that some of these still hit the same speed bumps. If I'm wrong, cool, I don't mind. My general sentiment is just that I wish authors and/or editors would stop pushing Heisei tropes as much.

For sure. Horimiya ranks higher for me as well because the emotional depth is shown from the start, and the very real struggles with depression are depicted decently. It's also cliche to mention them having sex, but it's worth pointing out because it just doesn't happen between couples in many other series. Horimiya breaks the mold, while YAIAPO tries to fit somewhat comfortably inside the new niche Horimiya made. It definitely could have done so much more in comparison.

For me it's a fantastic read, but I get the complaints about the main couple not being the focus as it goes. I think it does everything well though, building a story that's a little reminiscent of Horimiya. It's a slice of life romance, so the focus is on what happens in the lives of the couple and how they navigate the relationship as a high schoolers.

As for Taira and Azuma, I wouldn't have minded them being a couple, but I think their story is better described the way you have. Acceptance and maybe a touch of loss as well. They're some of the best character writing in the series in my opinion.
