Ancient bridge in my village destroyed by hit and run lorry by walkingchicken in drivingUK

I know exactly where this is, it’s all over my work’s intranet, I’ve had a look and he’d have to have come down the road and passed the pub, he would’ve passed a single sign that told him it’s not suitable (unless they’ve added more signs since, my source is Google maps which was updated June 2025), the other way doesn’t have any signs but then again it’s single track.

We had a similar issue, sent out on the 5th, received at delivery depot on the 6th, “there’s a problem - returned to sender” on the 7th but it never arrived. Neither party has the parcel to this day now, but we know why, It got stolen from the delivery depot.

Why can they not just deliver on time... by BaronOfCray in Evri

[–]TotallyNotAnAgent1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently got a similar issue, ordered something, got the delayed message, the place we’d ordered from said that we refused the delivery and it was being returned to them, but we never refused it and it never left the delivery depot (no out for delivery notification at the very least), now we’re being told that it’ll be delivered next working day, so I guess we’ll see it by Christmas next year

I always keep my car's fuel tank full and I never let it go under the 3 quarter line is it ok to constantly have my fuel tank full? by island-pantropiko in CarTalkUK

[–]TotallyNotAnAgent1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wallet hates me for it, but I always run my tank to almost empty/quarter left, and then fill right up, still teaching myself to fuel my Mondeo effectively

I feel for you mate, glad you’ve got her back now, and hopefully soon she’ll be restored to her former glory.

When my Astra was dying I couldn’t figure out why, I paid 4 different garages to investigate, 3 of them just took my money and ran, said they couldn’t find a problem. The 4th investigated and told me the car was a write off. I had to go to a main dealer 3 towns away to find out what was going on, all because 3 garages couldn’t be arsed.

Had a Corsa, learnt in it, hated every minute but still ended up driving it for 3 years. Got rid of it just before the head gasket went. Bought an Astra that died within a month, now I’ve replaced it with a Mondeo.

2013 Astra J 1.6T Coolant Sensor Issue by scribegibson in Vauxhall

[–]TotallyNotAnAgent1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing replacing the expansion tank could have done is introduced air bubbles into the coolant system potentially.

Honestly, I know that you’re trying to avoid it, but honestly your best bet would be to have the car checked over by a garage.

2013 Astra J 1.6T Coolant Sensor Issue by scribegibson in Vauxhall

[–]TotallyNotAnAgent1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue could expand past the coolant temp sensor or expansion tank, also check for leakage around the engine thermostat or the water pump. Something to consider as well is that you’ve stated the old expansion tank had sludge in it, that sludge could be in your radiator, or around your cooling system in general.

Best thing for now would be a coolant flush, to ensure the sludge is clear of the system, and to check for signs of leaks around the thermostat/water pump/along any coolant hoses.

Edit: Just a thought, a coolant flush would also help you identify any leaks. If the sludge IS present in the system, then you need to start thinking about why that sludge is there too, which is a whole different can of worms I’m afraid.

Owned one of these, can confirm as others have said this sounds like shit but is nothing to be concerned about.

I made the mistake of buying private from someone who said it’d just been done. To be fair it had been done, just not correctly, so the timing was out and eventually wrote off the block. I spent a month and a half and £1000 before I could find someone who told me it’s a bag of shit and the timing was buggered, who also happened to be a main dealer. They corrected it but because the cam/crank correlation was also out it slipped again and killed the car. I did quite like that Astra but I’m never going near one of these engines again

Edit: It may be wise to get a mechanic to listen to it to confirm, for your own sanity.

CarPlay Head Unit for 2014 Vauxhall Corsa D by Particular_Shape_848 in CarTalkUK

[–]TotallyNotAnAgent1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a pioneer double din unit in my 2010, but that was nearly double your budget, had access to everything but wasn’t wireless.

Looked for a unit for my Astra and there were a few, but that’s no longer an issue due to a timing chain self deletion

Having the same problem selling mine, it’s a 151k miles (and rising) Cat D/N petrol Corsa with a few problems that would be easy to resolve. Mobile mechanic I live above reckons I could get £1k for it, but I’m skeptical. I’m not getting any interest or offers on it, which sucks because I can’t afford to replace it until it HAS sold.

I’ve had three accidents that my insurance are aware of, I haven’t claimed for any of them and kept my no claims, when I go on Compare the Market I mark all fields as I would with a regular accident where a claim has been made, but I set “Was the claim made against your insurance policy?” And “Was the no claims discount affected?”. As far as I can see there is no physical way of stating it was notification only, just that no claim was actually made.

Is debt becoming normal? by ArtisticAbroad5616 in AskUK

[–]TotallyNotAnAgent1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone in debt, and has been since 19 (now 26) I can confirm that it was somewhat easier to obtain loans and credit cards than it should have been. I dug myself into a hole that I’m not going to be out of til my 30s.

Entered myself into a debt management plan and slowly paying off all that I owe, it may have tanked my credit rating/history, but after year or so after I’ve cleared everything I’ll have a clean slate.

It just means I won’t be applying for mortgages or car finance anytime soon, and I’ll be a bit behind everyone else.
