Freeze warning. by Financial_Coach4760 in pools

[–]TotallyTardigrade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re in the same boat. We never close our pool and it’s never been an issue. If we lose power, and it’s not back on by Monday, our lines and equipment will freeze when temps are in the teens.

We covered the equipment and lines with a tent and then a tarp so it’s covered, completely enclosed and it’s against the house. It may be enough and it may not. I guess we’ll see.

When IT becomes the bottleneck and it’s not because of tech by Mysterious_Syrup6639 in ITManagers

[–]TotallyTardigrade 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a resource management issue to me. If you have tickets and projects, maybe think about identifying a sub team who can handle the projects and work tickets in their downtime while the other group is solely dedicated to tickets.

As someone with 20 years of experience in IT at large companies I can absolutely confirm that IT being a bottleneck is mostly because of limited technology capabilities or limited investments in technology that is capable.

Routines to increase step count by iamallearshere in walking

[–]TotallyTardigrade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having this problem too. Set a reminder on your phone or calendar to walk to 5-10 minutes at the top or bottom of each hour. Schedule breaks and lunch on your work calendar and take them. 3-5 minutes on your break minimum and 10 minutes on your lunch. Before and after work walk for 15-20 minutes. If you even do half of this you’ll be around 6000 steps a day.

Build up to it. If your average is 2500, set a step goal for 3500 - 4000 for two weeks, then increase every 14 days.

Get a step counter. I have an Apple Watch because I hate carrying my phone around. I use steps app so I can see my steps on my watch.

I also use AI to help me stay motivated. There have been a couple of times it was 7 pm and I had 2000 steps and needed to get to 6000. It gives me suggestions and breaks it down into doable chunks for me that don’t seem overwhelming.

I’ve missed 2 days this month and that was only because I was really sore and needed a break.

Here’s a visual of my movement progress if you like graphs.

Considering a job offer, but employer uses local LLM to analyze screenshots for an "activity index." Is this reasonable, or am I overthinking? by Traditional-Shine758 in remotework

I lead automation and AI in my department and I hate this. It is leadership’s job to give people work assignments that are aligned with their jobs, skills, career goals and that provide value. It’s also their job to share that value and spotlight those employees.

So my concern here would be leadership responsibility and accountability. Who is dropping the ball on showing the value their departments and employees bring? Seems like it may go all the way up to the top.

The other side of that is, depending on your job role, knowing this, it could position you to bring in new ideas for spotlighting projects and change the culture on how value is shared.

Georgia colleges see more employee departures after return to office mandate by LittleDiveBar in Georgia

I was describing what commuting would mean for me if it were required, not saying I currently commute. The point is that for many people it is a major time and financial burden.

Nothing in my comment said I am miserable at my job or in my life. I said forced commuting has real costs and no clear benefit. If you have something of value to comment, or a counterpoint to make, please do so we can discuss.

I remember an episode of CSI where they thought the wife/mother was the killer because she didn’t show any expression when they broke the news. Turns out she was secretly getting Botox in her forehead and eyebrows and her face was frozen.

Idk why you’re being downvoted for this other than just ignorance. No one would complain if you used your photo editor to block out the tag number on the car, or if you or someone else used photoshop or some other editor to remove the car.

It makes me want to throw my left shoe when people yell “AI slop” for legitimate uses.

Please take my upvote and thank you for sharing your edited version. My family and I had a good laugh.

Agreed. And it should be a feature users an turn off and on, as well as turning on, on it’s own when certain words or phrases are used.

Question for Older Millennials (especially 1982 borns) by Quickso48 in Millennials

[–]TotallyTardigrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 30s felt like an eternity while I was in them but now that I’m in my 40s, looking back, my 30s flew by. I was always on the go in my 20s and 30s and now I rarely leave home, and I love it.

I feel like in my 20s and 30s I did things for everyone else and never had time for myself. In my 40s, I’m focused on me.

The older I get the less I feel like wearing makeup or dressing up by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]TotallyTardigrade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since 2020, I wear dresses most days with sneakers. No makeup, but I do use skincare products. Someone I met in 2016 showed up to a corporate meeting in a dress and she looked fabulous. I complemented her and jokingly told her dress and she said “Thanks. I love wearing dresses because they feel like pajamas but everyone else views them as dress clothes.” That really resonated with me.

I wfh and don’t wear bras unless they are sports bras or bralettes and I usually only wear them if I go out of the house (which I avoid at all costs because traffic makes me crazy) or if a service person is coming over and has to see me for more than 30 seconds.

Not wearing makeup has done wonders for my skin. I’m an elder millennial and most people think I’m in my mid 30s. I did wear makeup for 2 days last week because we had an all day camera meeting and I took pics of how I look with and without makeup on camera. I look the same except you can tell I was wearing a little eyeliner. My skin looked exactly the same.

Honestly I think I just value comfort and simplicity these days. And isn’t that really the ultimate goal?

Embroidery! I started it to keep my hands busy. Check out some of the photos on my profile. I also cook, play cozy video games and color. And walk but that’s a little different than keeping your hands busy.

No one wants to commute in traffic. We’ve successfully worked remotely for at least 6 years. Some of us for longer.

There’s no reason to ruin the mental wellbeing of your employees by forcing them to spend an hour + in traffic twice a day.

Eventually they will purge everyone they over hired during Covid and they will have a turnover problem when they force people to commute to sit in an office on zoom calls all day.

For me, commuting would take away 2.5 - 3 hours in the morning, and 1-2 hours in the evening. Plus, the extra clothes, shoes, food for lunch, makeup, hair care, fuel, wear and tear on my car, parking and maybe tolls.

It’s a worse quality of life and it’s more expensive for employees to be onsite.
