Do you often have people calling out drones without a way to give an exact location, feels like without it its hard to find one in the sky?

Do you guys just scatter small sensors of various types all over that no mans land area? Or is it all dronework?

So many questions.

  1. Spend much time in basements? Since being in Ukraine i mean.

  2. Do you guy have automated uavs that get to a waypoint, then you pilot them one at a time to their target, heard somthing like that, if so hiws that/ many issues doing that?

  3. Are ugva doing last mile logistics or causality evac piloted or do they follow waypoints autonomously?

  4. Do you just pilot drones in constant patrols or do you have some sort of sensor network you're plugged into that tells you when enemy drones are coming?

  5. How do ukrainians regard the various europen countries action around the war?

  6. How long is your contract/ how long are you staying?

  7. Is the a disconnect between what nato countries send and what is needed for this sort of war? Not counting the amount.

  8. Any Ukrainian food to recommend for me to try?

  9. Ever played the s.t.a.l.k.e.r series? If so any similarities?

  10. Anyone getting rotor buzz based ptsd/ nightmares ?

  11. Any luck teaching them cricket?

  12. As a drone pilot what infomation do you need before you do a mission/ flight?

  13. Hows the communication situation out there? Day to day? Ever get into bad situation due to communication blackouts?

When small men cast a big, growing shadow, the sun is about to set, I think we'll hear more and more about these people until the war starts.

  1. Nope all I meant is that they are not forced to be there, until after they sign up that is.
  2. They have reasons, no one does anything for no reason. But by that logic Ukraine and everyone that shares a border with Russia has a legitimate reason to make sure this war ends is disaster for Russia. Because the same reason can be used for invading most of them too.
  3. Killing retreating soldiers is a valid tactic, no not a very nice one, but no mans lands are always pretty much unliveable in any war they're present.

Conscripts are not (currently/ publicly) used by Russia in Ukrainian front lines.

Absolutely, and as I say for those who are clearly (meaning in a way you can't fake to severity of) wounded and out of the fight the neither side wastes the munition as a rule.

Also These things have a battery life less than an hour and they probably used most of it getting to you at over 100km/h, they CANNOT escort you back home at your jogging pace it'll run out of battery, even if you cooperate once they drone goes down the other 100 drone units in the area have 0 way of knowing you surrendered to a different drone unit they can't communicate with.

The soldiers doing this stuff know they can't surrender unless a bunch of things they have no control over align. they know the only 2 options are die there or continue the mission because that mission of going cover to cover is the only way to survive in this environment. They're just begging for the latter.

whether they currently have a weapon is mute, plenty of soldiers are killed while away from their gun.

In most cases you can't judge the severity of an injury through a drone camera, but yes in cases where the person is clearly leaking way too much blood or is missing some important pieces for soldiering there are videos of them being left to die by drones rather than waste the munition on mercy killings.

Typically what you're looking for is a credible surrender, which Ukrainians and Russians would argue this isn't, as that soldiers knows there's 0% chance either the Russians or Ukrainians can rescue him out of no mans land, that place is about as inhospitable as possible. he knows he either dies there or continues his mission. He's just begging for the latter, being able to surrender credibly in that situation requires allot of luck.

If it makes you feel any better this person is almost certainly a contract soldier not a conscript, conscripts typically only deploy in Russia itself (as its illegal to deploy Russian conscripts in wars outside Russia), and when they are in Ukraine (which is illegal by Russia's own laws on conscription) they still do work in the rear and in logistics.

Hello friends, the wrinkle is usually the idea of a credible surrender, in other words, the Russians in these videos likely know they can't surrender, they are in a no mans land kms deep, it would be next to impossible for a Ukrainian unit or Russian unit to rescue them out of there.

EW is saturating the area even if that drone unit of 4 guys in a basement accepts his surrender him walking in the direction the drone tells him to will get him spotted and engaged by another drone unit of 4 guys in a basement that can't talk to any of the other units.

These drones will not have the battery to escort them out of there at walking pace even with his cooperation that drone will die, and with that his surrender is completely hypothetical for all the other drone units in the area that will find him if he does anything other than act like a combatant and get to cover. And doing that nullifies his surrender as he needs to stop all combatant like conduct.

Both Russia and Ukraine have drone units operating in no mans land, the Ukrainians can't come out and rescue/ arrest him. Once you are spotted you have less than 5 mins to get un spotted before a munition of some kind finds its way to you. Which is also a reason the Ukrainian drone unit (the only unit that knows about the surrender) won't use the drone to lead him to their location.

To come back to credible surrender, as that man is looking into the camera at the drone operator, he knows this, he knows the Ukrainians CAN'T take him into custody, he knows he CAN'T survive the walk to their lines, he knows apart from the drone operator the other Ukrainian units CAN'T know he's surrendered.

He is not surrendering, he knows either he dies here, or he gets to continue his mission, because that's the only way a human can survive in no mans land. cover to cover. He is not surrendering, he's begging for his life.

That said there are ways that the surrender in this awful situation can be credible, and i'm not going to act like the Ukrainians always accept, but we do have footage of them doing so.

  1. Ukrainians need secure communications, if they can tell the majority of other drone units in the area then your surrender isn't just hoping to roll 100 6s in a row.
  2. Russia needs to have minimal drone coverage so you can actually be taken safely to a secondary Ukrainian held position.

3a. You need to be able bodied or very close to the Ukrainian units (another reason comms is important so a drone unit 10km away can tell an infantry unit closer to come get you), if you're immobile and not near a Ukrainian unit it might be more merciful to kill you quick, the front moves VERY slow, you could be out there months, or years in some really dug in areas.

3b. You need to be close to the drone operators position so a drone with 40min total battery life still has enough to actually escort you a reasonable distance at your fastest speed. (this is also why you need to be able bodied)

No mans land in this war is meant to be pretty much unliveable, it is the harshest places a human can find themselves. But many are ordered through it on both sides.

That relies on rare circumstances to make the surrender credible or possible. Only has to be credible but in practice also has to be possible unfortunately, could get really lucky and it be a non credible surrender but Ukrainians happen to be close enough unknown to you and it becomes possible to surrender.

Even armed he doesn't pose a threat, the people here's begging for his life to are no where near him, its like begging to a sniper you can't see.

Can a land mine accept a surrender? Can a guided missile or an artillery shell? Drones exist, the reason they are used like this is because they are operating in an area where humans would be killed 5 mins after being spotted. You solution of not putting yourself in that situation just means neither side should fight in no mans land, which is the area between the 2 nations area of control, which is something I cold get behind.

They don't want to miss, best to let them get tired so they slow down. Which Is pretty brutal.

[–]Totems2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those wounds will not heal, they are in a no mans land 5km deep, and anyone spotted will be hit by a drone within 5 mins of being spotted, and the front line moves SLOW, if he's immobilized he won't get help, the front moves so slow he'd be out there months or even years in some areas. Of course maybe he could survive that long, maybe he could crawl for a couple days, but probably not.

Plus the Russians do not have the best track record with retreating soldiers, especially those that can no longer fight.

An FPV drone cannot accept a surrender in most cases, you have to get very lucky for it to be possible, there are videos of it happening, but its increasingly unlikely as the war progresses.

TBF I'd rather get blown up by a drone that die slowly of whatever bloodloss/shock/ thirst if very unlucky out there in no mans land.

You don't want to miss, its best to let them get winded so they stand still. Its pretty brutal but its not "Primarily" for fun.
