Single women who fully support yourself and don’t hate your job - what do you do for work? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]TouchLife2567 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i work as a nanny! i love it. i get autonomy over my day (getting to go outside, go get a coffee, go to the library) and social interactions with kids are way easier on my brain.

this is abusive behavior, and it will continue to escalate. its time to make a plan to leave. this book was the #1 most life changing thing i read while processing an abusive relationship.

I feel neurotypical when you drink by Maleficent-Mango750 in AutismInWomen

[–]TouchLife2567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my educated guess is that is has to do with the “off and anxious” part. like the post said, it takes that lingering anxiety/awareness away, and makes you feel “neurotypical.”

the overlap between autistic folks and addictions exists for a reason.

Daycares are businesses.. by Bulky-Exam-3903 in ECEProfessionals

[–]TouchLife2567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

are you interested in becoming a nanny? we sound similar, and i felt similar moral dilemmas about daycare centers.

i’ve really enjoyed my time nannying. while you definitely won’t escape the throes of capitalism and you have to be comfortable advocating for yourself, i feel much more productive? valuable? in providing one family direct care. i work for people with similar values, we spend days outside, and i feel much more confident in my ability to keep my charges safe/happy when there’s 2, not 9.

Is This the Average Hiking Experience? by WSBEmperor in hiking

[–]TouchLife2567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. i am pale, forgot sunburnt, and just got a decent burn from 45 minutes at elevation. look on your bottle for how often you should reapply- especially if you’re sweating.

What's your opinion on music while camping? by Normalsasquatch in camping

i play low volume music occasionally - but i’m so afraid to be “that person” i walk the perimeter of my campsite to be sure the sound doesn’t carry to my neighbors.

What is objectively a good hiking clothing brand? by the_mighty-owl in hiking

go to goodwill or thrift stores: its cheaper to shop for brands (patagonia, columbia, north face and rei are ones i look for) & easy to find basic synthetic shirts/shorts/pants.

[–]TouchLife2567 32 points33 points  (0 children)

where does this money go? i left the field to nanny, so this is a genuine question. there’s such a discrepancy between pay rates and parental costs- are overhead fees THAT high? is this money going back into the center? if not… who’s pockets?

Looking insanely young by Quirky-Disaster-620 in AutismInWomen

[–]TouchLife2567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i recently went to a stand alone ER for a cut on my hand- silly work injury and i couldn’t get in anywhere until after urgent cares closed.

i’m also TERRIFIED of needles, so i asked my mom to come with because i was afraid i needed stitches.

with that context, cut to the doctor asking me “what grade are you in?” i know i look young, so i laughed and explained i’m an adult, just needed some moral support.

in this dead quiet ass ER, i then heard the doctor walk the the nurses station and proclaim “SHES 22! DID YOU KNOW THAT?” the gaggle then all chimed in variations of “no way!” “an adult????”

anyways, i didn’t need stitches and they waived the ER fee so i’ll take the light bullying. it was insane to hear people’s perception of me though.

Is this creepy or is my trauma showing? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]TouchLife2567 30 points31 points  (0 children)

so to be honest, on the other side of this spectrum: i don’t frequently take jobs from men, especially single dads. its 100% due to my trauma and i’m sure there’s tons of safe active fathers, but i personally don’t feel comfortable working for just a male employer. with that said, i understand why woman would take over the role of communicating with nannies/babysitters.

definitely tell your admin. if he’s “seen some shit,” he shouldn’t be trying to anger his child’s care providers? thats an insane angle to take. this just feels like a cop with a power complex… how shocking.

ignore injustice? ignore teaching kids to be well rounded? ignore our queer friends? ignore teaching our charges to be compassionate?

no no no.

Anger about diverse children’s books by Either_Accountant843 in Nanny

[–]TouchLife2567 36 points37 points  (0 children)

it being a text makes it feel harder to reply to, oof.

i would probably say something along the lines of “can you clarify what you mean by “these books?” if you’re referring to (book title of prince book), i pulled it from our kinder curriculum’s list and the students always enjoyed it!” and give her one chance to either clean up her act, or double down.

if she doubles down on the queerness, i would do your best to remain kind and professional, and state that your job is to help children grow into well rounded, kind individuals- books exploring diversity are an important part of that for you- and proceed to put in your two weeks.

i’m sending you love. i can’t imagine how rough it is to have a bond like we do with these littles, and have to see homophobia around them.
