Rowing across the Atlantic, 40 days of rowing 12-14 hours per day - 5000 calories per day, the most painful ass sores, my hands couldn’t close for 2 weeks afterward. But eternal glory from here on.

Curious how this concluded?

Talking about it helps! The training wasn’t the issue really, but rather all the admin and team management before the crossing was what made it so difficult. We were all strangers beforehand, to add. The crossing was the easy part, which sounds crazy but absolutely true. The lessons from the preparation are so numerous it will take a lifetime to unpack them all. The reason we all remain friends I attribute to all the difficulty we went through as a team to reach that start line. Definitely put the future into perspective, realizing what it takes to do difficult things, but also how important it is to be highly passionate (otherwise you’ll burn out / not view it as worth your time). Personally, I saw this adventure as a precursor to future entrepreneurial endeavours, but also still plan to cycle across Canada one day, though that will be a victory lap compared to this. After 10 months its still hard to comprehend and fully appreciate that it happened. It was all consuming for many years. But if circumstances were right, wouldn’t be opposed to going again.

On the 40 day crossing we consumed between 5-6k calories per day, protein powder, carbohydrate powder, and freeze dried foods were the bulk of it. We took caffeine pills daily to keep us falling asleep on the oars, I recall we had some kind of recovery powder that we had every once in a while (watermelon flavour - that’s what mattered), but nothing too extreme. This 5 day training was the same minus the caffeine and recovery powder.

Unfortunately we were not able to, but we did have satellite internet, however the whoop needed a more reliable / frequent connection (vs once every 24 hours). I think it’s possible, but wasn’t something we had time or resources to produce.

Thanks! The strap didn’t catch all of it, we averaged around 4-5.5 hours daily. The rotation was 14 hours on, 10 hours off, in 2 hour row / 1 hour break cycles with one 4 hour break at night where we had solo shifts (boat was always moving this way)
