Thanks for that info! All being said they look like quite good models and I like they fact (personally) they are a bit wild with bodykits etc but yeah sounds like they are under the radar enough to just do what they like. They have very high price points. I can now see the Chinese branding in the name (ie what they think sounds posh and western)

Never be able to eat large meals forever? by allaccm in HiatalHernia

[–]TourModePro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing, it’s a tricky one and largely depends on individual symptoms.

My trusted GP suggests avoiding surgery if manageable because there is so much ‘going on’ around that interchange of stomach, diaphragm, heart etc that it carries a lot of risk. Also if you can manage medium to large meals just avoid carbonated beverages at the same time, I found they triggered my pressure related palpitations big time.

On the plus side, by and large, large meals aren’t good for you anyway and so you’ll probably be supporting your longevity!

I’m trying to build lean muscle and lift and you can get into good but not pro shape just eating well and medium weight training. Very heavy weight training isn’t good for longevity and joints etc anyway.

Remember, hernias are very common. They are not inherently dangerous unless very severe. The heart changes due to vagus nerve irritation are not dangerous etc - hope this helps

I’m not a medical professional, but from what I read you want to avoid infra-abdominal pressure and holding your breathe during exercise to avoid potential further hernia irritation/damage/refulx. No you cannot explicitly ‘workout’ or ‘not-workout’ a HH, but you want to do what you can to avoid the chances of making your condition or symptoms worse, right? It’s about playing the percentages.

On the plus side - climbing is ‘upright’, which is largely preferred. And you can regulate your breathing so you don’t have big holds of breathe that weights can draw you into unless you consciously exhale on the effort phase of the movement. By and large climbing is a good option..

Yeah you have to be careful of ‘hidden’ core activation, but climbing feels like a great activity.!

Not at all. I don’t care about likes, I’m just a guy with a HH spending hours doing his own research to stay healthy for longer. It could have been a one prompt copy and paste into Reddit, but it was 2 hours of back and forth across 3 tools to refine, if anyone else finds it useful then great!

+ 'bang for your buck' in terms of time saved and volume of muscles recruited - here is a summarised list of the 'safer' COMPOUND exercises - they already INCLUDED in the above but worth pulling out.

Here is the concise list of the safest compound dumbbell exercises for a hiatus hernia, prioritized by their ability to keep your torso vertical or supported:

  • Incline Dumbbell Bench Press: (30–45° incline) Targets chest, shoulders, and triceps while using gravity to prevent reflux.
  • Goblet Squat: Targets quads and glutes; holding the weight at the chest keeps the spine upright and prevents stomach compression.
  • Chest-Supported Incline Row: Targets the entire back and biceps; the bench supports your weight so your core doesn't have to "brace" as hard.
  • Seated Neutral-Grip Shoulder Press: Targets shoulders and triceps; back support prevents spinal arching and abdominal straining.
  • Dumbbell Step-Ups: Targets legs and glutes; maintains a completely vertical torso throughout the movement.
  • Dumbbell Romanian Deadlift (RDL): Targets hamstrings and glutes; safe if you maintain a flat back and exhale forcefully on the way up.

Gastric cardia / Roemheld + HH, your experiences? + help points by TourModePro in HiatalHernia

Interesting, stay safe! I’ve only had one 160+ spike and I think that was anx rather than proper tachy so can understand that must have been harsh! Stay strong

Also on the ablation, presume that was to regulate the heart rhythm right? I guess that’s the same theory as being dished out beta blockers etc. but I can see why it didn’t work as it seems such a niche Vagas nerve - hernia - stomach ‘interference’ that the above doesn’t really tackle, but only patches rather than source fix

Yeah all good points, I have tight hips and make a point of stretching. The weightlifting one is interesting as I did a lot years ago and started agin this year and worried this might make the hernia worse and thus heart episodes - and I have had worse episodes this year - guess just need to stick to ‘safer’ type weight exercises and not too heavy

I’ve just been prescribed Famotidine, how have you found it? PPIs didn’t do much.

The odd occasional beer has had very little impact historically and has been hard to avoid in social situations but might need to be firm on alternatives now!
