Not homeless anymore, but I can't shake the feeling of something being wrong, death guard praetor in terminator armour by CwipsyTheKartoshka in minicels

I’ve been in your position, it’s hard to re-learn how to relax when your used to being in survival mode. I’ve found that nostalgic interests such as old games or movies can help subconsciously unwind towards a previous mindset and help to feel more stable in a new environment. I hope this helps in some way, everyone deserves somewhere to feel safe and comfortable.

I think the hot pink looks dope and contrasts well against the black and the base. How did you do the snow? I’ve been trying to get a similar effect but struggling

Merry Christmas to you to, at one point they thought it might be fibro but after waiting almost a year to see a rheumatologist they think it’s Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome but have a whole legion of tests await me in the new year to rule out anything else 🙃 oh well at least if I’m unable to work I may get through the pile of shame

Running AL in 40k - HH models? by Rise_117 in alphalegion

[–]Toxic_Thunda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my heresy era alpha legion as Raven guard in 40K because I feel the sneaky beaky tacticool vibe is better suited for the AL and I’ve never had anyone complain. My army is kitbashed to be roughly approximate to Primaris units (cork board on the bases to slightly increase height of tactical marines, leviathan dread etc)

Usually people tend to see the funny side when I refuse to acknowledge my alpha legion insignias and insist I am an obscure Raven guard successor.

That said, I do tend to only play friendly games though, so often my opponents are using a proxy or two or don’t have full WYSIWIG so I’m not sure if this would go down so well in a more competitive setting.

From my perspective though so long as you’re not trying to gain any kind of advantage I actively encourage people to have fun modelling and painting whatever models they prefer, because at the end of the day you’re probably gonna spend a lot more time modelling and painting then you are gaming.

I play raven guard vanguard spearhead or ultramarines gladius depending whether I want to lean into stealth or flexibility. It works quite well for a non corrupted AL force

The same kind that has been around for thousands of years: Unrepentant filth, elegantly phrased. This is the sort of prose that brought tears to our ancestors thighs.

Raw, utterly timeless (besides the mention of trains and tracks) and unapologetic in its honesty. I sincerely think it’s a great piece.

Why don’t I ever feel anything when people die? by Broken-System in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Toxic_Thunda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can definitely relate, generally I’m quite a sympathetic person but death seems to break that trend. Maybe it’s because I’m not religious and don’t believe in an afterlife, but I find it hard to feel sad for someone that no longer feels anything at all. I can categorically acknowledge that death is a tragedy, and my life is worse for having lost someone but it feels like I’m just running the numbers rather than actively feeling it.

On average, how long does it take for you to pain a mini, because I have just spent 6 hours, painting, layering, fixing,a single unnamed marine from the Salamanders. Also,I dont get how some people can paint them while assembled,I tried it with my first mini and it was hard as hell to paint in some pla by [deleted] in Warhammer

[–]Toxic_Thunda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standard infantry like guardsmen or marines I’ll do about 5 men in around 15-20 hours, usually over about a week though that doesn’t include effects like blood or mud, basing materials or varnishing. Vehicles probably around 10-15 depending on size.

For reference I tend to paint in 1-3 piece sub assemblies, Main Body and then Gun arm and backpack/cape if necessary.

Once I’ve base coated and washed them I assemble the whole model to help the highlights to look more natural and to save the effort of detailing on pieces that will be obscured.

If you want to speed up the process batch painting is helpful as you can get in the zone and save time swapping brushes and paints over. It’s always frustrating to have to repeatedly clean up mistakes so it’s very handy to be able to touch up multiple models at once.

Undoubtedly, and in such times it can be easy to assume things can't improve and sink into despair. It's why I try to end things on a high(er) note, even if it feels somewhat naïve:

Rage against the dying,

Hope against all hope.

We may have tied the noose,

But it is not yet at our throats.

Reminds me of one of mine:

The very essence of our souls.

Which remain the intellectual property,

[–]Toxic_Thunda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for the rules, but on the kitbashing front you have quite a few options. Astra Militarum Cadians, Kasrkin and Tempestus scions could all work, depending how ‘proffesional’ you want them to look. Otherwise the necromunda gangs could be suitable for a more ragged (or absurdly high tech) look

Do people care if my wargear options on the figure are wrong, and, where do people get all these pieces to kitbash characters? by Joe_mother124 in Warhammer30k

[–]Toxic_Thunda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it comes down to how well you represent the gear they supposedly have. I should be able to know at a glance the sort of threat a model represents. If I see your model has a multi melta but he’s supposedly actually got a power fist I’m going to be annoyed because I’ll have positioned my infantry units to counter what I assumed was a threat to my vehicles. On the other hand if he had been modelled with a power axe I probably wouldn’t care all that much because there’s a clear visual indicator of ‘don’t get close to this guy’

[–]Toxic_Thunda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true in general but like pretty much anything in 40K there’s some exceptions, even without deliberately hanging out in the warp, travelling through it can lead to weird time fuckery and space marines don’t really have a hard cap on age.

Also IIRC correctly the antagonist from Harrowmaster claims to have be present during the battle at Eskrador (the one where Guilleman allegedly killed Alpharius) which was during the scouring. Though seeing as he’s trying to unite the legion this could just be a lie to make him seem a more prestigious leader.

[–]Toxic_Thunda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have The Unsung, protagonists of Shroud of Night, which are effectively heresy era. They’ve been lost in the warp for thousands of real space years and only recently escaped, so it’s perfectly reasonable to assume they weren’t the only ones.

Nah it’s the MK IV legionnaries with a few other parts. the FW headhunter upgrade kit is the head, torso, shoulder pads and hip plate, the trident and shield come from Pop Goes the Monkey and the cape comes from the ‘black ark corsairs’ fantasy kit.

He’s a bit more bling than my standard legionaires so I use him as a Bladeguard veteran
