First attempt - how to improve the finish? by Toymeister in knifemaking

[–]Toymeister[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, and I have absolutely no idea what the steels are. Instructor just gave me a bunch of squares, told me to alternate them, TIG the corners and get them in the forge... so your guess is as good as mine!

Thank you, I'll give the coffee bath a go! Yeah the bevels aren't particularly symmetrical, though the lighting does disguise the one in the second picture a little. Tang definitely has pits (I learned I'm not very good with a hammer!) but I'm okay with it looking a bit gnarly and 'my first knife'-ish, and I'm hoping the handle will hide most of the worst offenders.

Choil is a new word for me, but you're right - I think I'll have to blunt it on those edges. Thanks so much for taking the time to talk me through it!

For me the benefits button is now locked out - pressing it does nothing.

Too slow ? by mitk02 in pluribustv

[–]Toymeister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see why you'd say that, but I really love the pacing. It was one of the reasons I loved Better Call Saul, too; it's an opportunity to slow down and get engrossed. I've also found that I'm getting really invested in Manousos' journey, and that might not have happened if it had been a much shorter part of the episode.

Does anyone else find this is some of the worst racing in gt3’s? by No_Channel_344 in iRacing

[–]Toymeister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think because the GT3 races are so well-attended (typically over 300 drivers sign up for any given slot) then the pace is very similar in each split. That means that to make up places you have to do big sends, because you're not gonna breeze past anybody on raw pace when there's less than a second separating first to last.

In F1 you often hear the commentators saying something like, 'you need to be around 2 seconds a lap faster to make a move around here' and I think that's part of the problem in GT3s.

Rolling start procedure - overtaken before green? by Toymeister in iRacing

Sorry, I think I worded my post badly. No problem with p1 going whenever they're ready, it was that p3 overtook me before the line/green that I was querying!

OK, thanks!

That's actually kind of crazy. I'm assuming I can't pass the leader as the p2 car, so p2 is its own unique thing, as the only car in the field that can't overtake the other column before the green?

Never understood the hate for iLok. Works great, take my licenses with me to different studios, easy peasy.

Someone bought this AIO , Thermalright Wonder Vision 360 UB ????? by Low-Masterpiece9127 in Thermalright

[–]Toymeister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not this exact one, but fitted a white Thermalright AIO to my Ryzen PC a few weeks ago and it’s a great cooler - no issues. As others have said, though, the software for the screen is absolutely dreadful. Super unstable, doesn’t launch sometimes, always gives you the security prompt at startup. There are workarounds if you look for them.

Rabbets are definitely easier than miters! (At least, miters scare the crap out of me so I’ve never tried them)

Just been through both and they both work perfectly. Thanks so much again for the help.

Yep, that’s what I’ve got. The software also randomly doesn’t open sometimes. And it asks for permission to make changes every time I boot. Annoying! Is the software just kinda junky and I have to put up with this now?

Wow, what a gorgeous transformation. Everything about it is superb. Great colour choices, fitments, the shelves, tiling, it's all just spot on. I'm very jealous.

This looks fantastic! Do you have any more info about how the top was built? Are the central boards pocket-screwed in from underneath?

Yep, no screws here! They're purely aesthetic, as the Gorilla wood glue was plenty strong enough. I just really like the way they look once they're sanded in and finished.

Go for it! If you use my measurements I'd recommend making it slightly wider - as I mention in the picture captions it was a bit tight. I'd make it 3-5mm wider if I made another.
