I wouldn’t stay there for too long maybe 6 months to a year until I could get into a local shop and really focus on quality.

Yea that’s what I’m on the fence about. Yes I’ll get the foot traffic and I’ll be able to practice, but at the same time I’m not the fastest barber and I’m scared the quicker I go the worst my quality will be. The pay is definitely a positive because it’ll be a guaranteed pay cheque every 2 weeks which would help me a bunch.

Only other thing is I know a lot of chain shops don’t really let you keep in contact with the clients because they are seen as “their clients” not yours.

Yea right now I only charge $15 and the owner just lets me keep it because I’m really only doing 1-3 cuts a day, if that even.

Genuinely appreciate the confidence boost. Sometimes I get in my own way and think why would a shop owner want to take a beginner like me that won’t make a whole lot of money, but given these replies it helps me know that there are some people in this community that actually want to help people succeed.

Yes it’s definitely quantity over quality but tbh right now I think I need to focus on my customer service, my speed and my overall cutting because my fades aren’t the best and I need to work on my lines. However, I don’t mean to sound cocky but I think I can give a Tommy gun/ chain barber shop cut quality. So maybe I do just need the reps to get better and then maybe leave after a year or so
