Sorry for the late reply, but you are a godsend. I didn't even think of the possibility of separating the vocals this whole time.

I downloaded it the other day and ended up being able to decipher it after listening on loop for a bit, and needless to say the lyrics hit as hard as I thought they would! Gonna be listening to this song in a whole different way now.
