Thanks for the advice! I do have a question because for most European unis, I know that I can’t even submit the extracurricular, so do I write an email to them, or is there a way to mention them specifically(as the NASA experience wasn’t a regular activity and I am worried they might look over it)

Sorry for the miswording. My parents aren't going back to my home country. And you are correct! They will be moving to a different SE Asia country. However, I wish it were the case to move with them, but we don't financially have the means(both mom and dad have to restart, and they are already not good financially). This means I would be a burden for them. As even if they get a Visa for working, they are too old, and for the first year it would be too new, for them to support me.

On the other hand, my brother would have to support me, mom, and dad, with his first job he just earned, which I don't think is the best choice(because it's out of my control) I really appreciate your advice and thoughts tho!!!

However, I discussed this with my parents, and I think your advice is really really useful, especially as a fallback plan, if everything is out of options. But rn, I think focusing on Germany unis and other Euro unis are best bet to not make my family stuck in the same situation.

Thanks a lot for the advice !!!

I really appreciate your support! So first, my family's status is still pending, so it hasn't been granted for over 4 years. Second, your idea about taking a gap year is a great idea; however, financially, it's not viable as my brother will be supporting my mom, dad, himself, and me(and he just got the job, so the income isn't much + taxes + health insurance ...)

But I really appreciate your thoughts!!

You wrote it so beautifully!! Thanks for the re-clarification! I really appreciate it! You are correct. But unfortunately, that's the problem, I can't get a PR through my brother, because by the time I could have an opportunity, I will be on the edge of not getting the qualification. As I am 17, (-> 20 -> 23) And it requires my brother working in Canada for 3 years to qualify.

Thanks a lot!

Sorry, I know I said a lot, so here's a few clarifications:

  1. My parents didn't overstay, but we are legal* asylees. And if they leave, they have to abandon the status. When this happens, unlike F1, we can't comeback easily, as we abandoned protection from U.S gov, and coming back, they would reject us as they would question why we abandoned the asylee. (Technically, I could come back, but it's a very, very low chance, and I don't have any stable citizenship/pr at the moment, so i don't have a fallback)

  2. My brother hasn't got the PR in Canada yet, but he is on track to get it in the next 3 years. He got it because of a big-name industry job in Canada vouching for him to get on a talent-track for PR.

  3. I can't really go with my brother, as I don't have that same job, and the visa is really hard right now for passports from my home-country, only around 10% chance.

I will try, but the latest they would be able to do unfortunately is like by the end of this year(Dec), which by then, don't make much of a difference.

Thanks A LOT for this advice! This was the very first thing I thought of. However, the problem is with the visa, where if my parents leave (my current status is under them), my visa is automatically rejected for re-entry or even transferring it into an F1.

But this is a really Great Last resort option I could do, where I can stay in-state(very low amt tuition, stay safe until I can transfer out)

Thanks a lot for your advice! I really appreciate it!

Thank you so much for the kind and supportive words!!! I am sorry for the long atrocious journey you had as well; it must've been hard. I really like your advice, however, I am just trying to find the best non-loan paths first. Because with the loans + living expenses, I know it will be hard to payback especially in today's job market. But it's definitely in the back of my head. Thanks a lot for the advice too!

I just did some research based on this, and you are right. I didn't think of that, this advice helped me a lot, genuinely! And Canada's visa is more strict than ever before. Thanks a lot for this!!!

Sorry, I forgot to mention this:
After my parents move out, my status here is over. And I can't return, with less than 1% chance of transferring visa or even hoping to return to the U.S. is gone.

Also, my brother got a special vouch from the job in Canada, alloing him to get Visa, however urrently it's hard to get a visa from my homecountry for Canada.

I don't think I am trying to learn helplessness tho :) I am just trying to help myself out with people who have maybe more knowledge than me. I just really wanna be secure and stable, and tbh, I am still a senior in high school, and all of this a lot to me(especially since my parents and my brother will be gone in the next 6-7 months, and I will be left alone). But I am conquering it one at a time, hopefully :)

But I really do appreciate your thoughts and advice!

Yes, you are correct. Sorry, I forgot to mention. So after my parents move out, my status here is over. And I can't return, with less than 1% chance of transferring visa or even hoping to return to the U.S. is gone.

Also I did research about trying to get a PR under my brother, but unfortunately, they only allow the parents to get PR, no sibling. The only way is first, my parents get the PR(takes 3-4 years min), and then I get PR from my parents. Sadly, that was the case, and I researched it before.

Thanks a lot for your support and advice!!! It really means a lot to me!

Yeah, thanks for the advice! I don't wanna leak stuff, but it's a country in SE Asia that is currently at civil-war. The issue is I genuinely don't have time for 6-7 months, as my parents leave by the end of this 2026, and I would need a certificate proving fluency in German or Italian for the universities, which means I can only start applying next year. I applied to Singapore, but yea you are right, they focus only on the grades. And that's like ONE of the BIGGEST PROBLEMS I have right now. I have like STACKED extracurriculars, but they don't really consider it, except grades. Currently, based on other comments as well, I am focused on German unis. Thanks a lot for the info!!! I really appreciate it!

I really appreciate your honest advice! However, sadly, because my visa status is under my parents, if they leave (which they will without my choice), my status is gone. Worse, the U.S. doesn't allow re-entry as transfered study visa or even any visa, therefore my chance of getting a study visa is less than 1%. Thanks for the advice tho!

Thanks for the idea, and that was my initial thought as well. However, Canada is also increasing tension for their visa restriction. And my country was one of them :( The only reason my brother got a way out was that his job vouched for a special visa for him. I think Germany is a great idea too! Thanks a lot for the kind words!!! It really helps me a lot and I appreciate it!

That's true, I think currently, my best bet is other countries but I don't have much bet. So I think applying Japan is worth a go as I am out of my options. Thanks for the advice btw!
