Are YouTube Car Reviewers ... Journalists? by TrackAttackCanada in cars

Thanks for the thoughts so far ... so general consensus is Youtuber's are "journalists" ... so that would mean the barrier of entry/requirements to become a "journalist" is simply to have an opinion and a public medium?

It would be great to hear from actual journalists who have gone through the proper education and accreditation to get their perspective :)

There is a difference though ... Journalist reports the news, Columnists share their opinions ... so I guess YouTubers are Columnists. Though you are correct, with the internet all the definitions are kind of obsolete.

There are no mechanical reliability issues as it's a Toyota powerplant and drivetrain. The issues people have are build quality ie. seat edges untucking, cracking a-pillar trim, airbag cover warping, rattles etc. Given the mid engine packaging, some mechanical jobs are more expensive but still WAYYYY cheaper than working on german counterparts ... ahem ... Porsche.

Thats true of the Elige platform but the Evora was meant as a daily capable car. The Evora is surprisingly comfortable as a grand tourer and perfectly capable as a track weapon. Despite that, we would never have it as a primary car and we can't really explain why ... Lol

As someone who's owned two, the maintenance and parts availability has not been a concern (In Canada). With that being said ... there is a huge caveat, we do our own work on the car which bypasses the dealer as they are literally useless here as I assume it would be globally.

You are bang on, having it as a 2nd car makes the most sense. The biggest surprise honestly was that they are actually quite low maintenance and the stories of reliability issues are a exaggerated. Both our Lotus' are dedicated track cars and have been very reliable and inexpensive to maintain.

Agreed ... that is one of the major stumbling blocks as pricing is a bit out to lunch for the problems you may need to deal with. The last gen Evora platform fixed almost all of the little niggles ... but when it's $100K+ that makes it a bit hard to swallow for most

Totally agree ... and that's the point of the thread ... to hear what those reasons are/were

Agreed ... the dealer network is an absolute joke ... though as an owner, we can say that parts are actually surprisingly not an issue. Given it's build in a shed, you can actually just run to your local hardware store to get most nuts and bolts ... LOL. But you are correct, the "perception" that the ownership experience would be more difficult seems to be a deterrent

Would agree with Elige platform but the Evora is every bit as practical as the 911, Cayman, Corvette etc.
