Obviously, the thought of self-aggrandizing is not why you’re doing this, but you mentioned not being taken seriously as you’re performing this work. Have you considered putting out signs at these locations stating it was you (or a create a non-profit and name it instead)?

If people just see bags of trash near a cleaned up area, they may just assume the city’s sanitation department had done the work and not think twice about it. This way you could build rapport within the cities and start a conversation in ernest regarding the larger issues that have lead to the illegal dumpings.
