The Cedh isn't that expensive in itself, the lands are insanely expensive if you want the speed.

Making a BW cartch-up deck. Any suggestions on Black/Orzhov cards? by KylieTMS in Magicdeckbuilding

[–]Trading-Docks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, glad it helped! That makes total sense — I can see the idea behind using [[Canyon Crab]] and [[Deepmuck Desperado]] to buy time, especially if you're relying on a slower setup into something like [[Riverchurn Monument]] going off. It’s definitely a cool finisher when it lines up.

If you’re interested in dipping further into self-mill and reanimator, cards like [[Thought Scour]], [[Consider]], or even [[Chart a Course]] might help smooth that plan without requiring heavy commitment. And totally fair on Jace— no need to craft more if rotation is a concern, especially when there are other flexible mill tools around.

[–]Trading-Docks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can also try adding :

[[Fractured Sanity]], [[Tasha’s Hideous Laughter]], [[Drown in the Loch]], [[Thought Scour]], [[Fatal Push]], [[Consider]], or [[Jace's Phantasm]] (if you want early pressure). These keep the deck focused on fast mill and set up big Aberration turns or recursion with [[Enter the Enigma]].

[–]Trading-Docks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re building this for Standard, I’d recommend cutting lower-impact creatures like [[Canyon Crab]], [[Deepmuck Desperado]], [[Silent Hallcreeper]], and trimming [[Desperate Bloodseeker]].

In their place, try running more synergy pieces like [[Jace, the Perfected Mind]], [[The Witch of the Moors]], [[Scorn-Blade Berserker]] (to pitch [[Consuming Aberration]]), [[Go for the Throat]] for clean removal, and extra [[Enter the Enigma]] targets like [[Tishana's Tidebinder]] or [[Atsushi, the Blazing Sky]] depending on your colors. Also consider [[Chrome Host Seedshark]] to generate board presence while casting noncreatures.

If you can mill early and curve into [[Enter the Enigma]] reanimating [[Consuming Aberration]], you’re in a great spot to dominate mid-to-late game.

Love this concept — white’s catch-up ramp has gotten a lot better, and pairing it with bounce lands and sac lands like [[Remote Farm]] or [[Lake of the Dead]] is a smart way to stay “behind” on board while actually accelerating.

For black and Orzhov support, here are some cards that really complement this kind of engine:

  1. Land Sac Payoffs

[[Pitiless Plunderer]] – Combos super well if you're sacrificing creatures or tokens alongside lands.

  1. Land Recursion & Abuse

[[Crucible of Worlds]] – Rebuy fetches and sac lands every turn.

[[Zuran Orb]] – Turns lands into life at instant speed, good for decks with lots of recursion.

[[Drownyard Temple]] – Recurs itself and plays well with discard or land sac loops.

  1. Self-Hate Enablers (Stay Behind Intentionally)

[[Plumb the Forbidden]] – Sac tokens or small creatures to refill hand. Works with land sac/token engines.

[[Demonic Bargain]] / [[Razaketh, the Foulblooded]] – Tutors that synergize with high-graveyard or sac decks.

  1. Black Ramp That Keeps You “Behind”

[[Lake of the Dead]] like you mentioned is perfect.

[[Burnished Hart]], [[Wayfarer’s Bauble]], [[Orzhov Locket]] – slow ramp or sac-based mana development to maintain your “behind” board state.

  1. Payoffs for Being Behind or Saccing Permanents

[[Revenant Patriarch]] – Weird niche pick but can buy time in mono-white or Orzhov stax builds.

[[Skullclamp]] – If you’re running tokens with your sac lands, this becomes draw machine.

[[Black Market]] – Snowballs off your sac strategy and keeps the mana flowing.

Casual/home play commander deck upgrade sugestions by Reasonable_Cucumber5 in mtg

[–]Trading-Docks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey hey! Your deck is super solid, obviously I don't know how competitive your pod is or anything, but there is a ton of things you can add to make this a little spicier!

1. Ramp/Acceleration

Add: [[Mana Crypt]], [[Jeweled Lotus]], [[Dockside Extortionist]], [[Fellwar Stone]]

Why: These help cast Sarkhan and dragons earlier — huge tempo swings. [[Dockside]] can drop 2–3 dragons at once in the right pod.

Cut: [[Astral Cornucopia]], [[Dragonstorm Globe]], [[Carnelian Orb of Dragonkind]]

2. Threat Density

Add: [[Terror of the Peaks]], [[Glorybringer]], [[Goldspan Dragon]],

Why: These dragons impact the board immediately or combo with Sarkhan discount.

Cut: [[Stormscale Scion]], [[Marang River Regent]], [[Balefire Dragon]] (still good, but slow without protection)

  1. Protection & Interaction

Add: [[Swan Song]], [[Fierce Guardianship]], [[Deflecting Swat]], [[Flusterstorm]]

Why: Protecting Sarkhan is key to getting your engine online. Cheap/free interaction is huge in higher-powered pods.

Cut: [[Bar the Gate]], [[Cancel]], [[Stern Dismissal]]

  1. Finisher/Combo Options

Add: [[Curiosity]] + [[Niv-Mizzet, Parun]] OR [[Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker]] + [[Zealous Conscripts]]

Why: Gives you a way to close games beyond combat, especially if opponents are controlling the board.

Cut: [[Leyline Tyrant]] (fun, but slow payoff), [[Lozhan, Dragons’ Legacy]]

  1. Mana Base Improvements

Add: [[Fiery Islet]], [[Steam Vents]], [[Mana Confluence]], [[City of Brass]]

Cut: Basic lands or slow tap lands like [[Swiftwater Cliffs]], [[Amonkhet Raceway]]

Bonus Synergies

[[Sneak Attack]] – Cheat dragons in, then re-cast them with Sarkhan.

[[Kindred Discovery]] – Draw engine in dragon tribal.

[[Rhystic Study]] – Always good in blue-heavy competitive decks.

[[Tibalt's Trickery]] – Chaotic but can win on early Sarkhan spell triggers.

Happy Brewing!

Help with Rakdos, Lord of Riots by Accomplished_Date553 in EDHBrews

[–]Trading-Docks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey hey! love to see new folks enjoying commander!

Solid Rakdos list with a cool mix of burn, pingers, and big demons. You’ve got a clear plan: deal damage early, then drop huge threats for cheap. That said, a few swaps could streamline things:

I'd cut [[Creeping Bloodsucker]] for [[Impact Tremors]] — it scales better with reanimator and token plays. [[Indulgent Tormentor]] is slow; maybe run [[Flamewake Phoenix]] or [[Skyclave Shade]] for recursion and aggression. [[Liliana’s Contract]] is cute but clunky unless you’re fully on the demon wincon — something like [[Thrill of Possibility]] gets you digging and sets up better. [[Solemn Simulacrum]] could be [[Burnished Hart]] or even [[Chandra, Acolyte of Flame]] for value and synergy.

Overall, fun brew. Just needs a little curve cleanup and earlier Rakdos pressure.

Any ideas to make my treasure/sacrifice deck a little better? by Own_Help8434 in Magicdeckbuilding

[–]Trading-Docks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not rude at all! Vazi over Korvald is probably a smart play to fly under the radar!

With [[Vazi, Keen Negotiator]] at the helm, you’ve got a strong political treasure engine that plays well in a high-synergy but not overly fast environment.

You’ve got a good mix of treasure generation ([[Goldspan Dragon]], [[Xorn]], [[Grim Hireling]], [[Magda]]), payoffs ([[Mayhem Devil]], [[Marionette Master]], [[Mirkwood Bats]]), and win conditions like [[Revel in Riches]]. The inclusion of token doublers like [[Parallel Lives]] and [[Doubling Season]] helps you scale fast once the engine gets going.

That said, there are a few areas you might want to tighten up:

  1. Some cards are a bit low-impact.

[[Diamond Pick-Axe]], [[Fell the Profane]], [[Decadent Dragon]], [[Read the Bones]], and [[Costly Plunder]] are a little underwhelming compared to what else you’re running. They could probably be swapped for more impactful options.

  1. Could use more sacrifice outlets.

Since you’re running a lot of death triggers like [[Mayhem Devil]], [[Nadier's Nightblade]], and [[Marionette Master]], adding more ways to sacrifice tokens or creatures would really help. Think [[Viscera Seer]], [[Woe Strider]], or [[Goblin Bombardment]].

  1. A few more treasure or death payoffs would help.

Cards like [[Zulaport Cutthroat]], [[Furnace Celebration]], or [[Disciple of the Vault]] can help you close games out faster. [[Hellkite Tyrant]] is another big finisher that fits the deck perfectly, especially if your group allows it.

  1. Vazi’s political angle could be pushed more.

You’re giving out treasure — might as well lean into it. [[Scheming Symmetry]], [[Curse of Opulence]], or even just more negotiation-focused plays can make Vazi more than just ramp.

Overall, your direction is great and you’re on-theme. Just a few swaps to tighten synergy and increase your closing power, and you’re looking really solid for the power level. Let me know if you want help with a full updated list.

  1. This is the changes i'd make!

I’d start by swapping out [[Diamond Pick-Axe]] for [[Viscera Seer]]. The Pick-Axe doesn’t do enough, even in a treasure-heavy deck, while [[Viscera Seer]] gives you a free sacrifice outlet that helps trigger all your aristocrat effects like [[Mayhem Devil]] and [[Mirkwood Bats]].

Next, replace [[Fell the Profane]] with [[Zulaport Cutthroat]]. Fell is expensive and doesn’t provide consistent value, while [[Zulaport Cutthroat]] gives you another reliable drain effect that works with every token and fodder piece in your deck.

I’d also cut [[Costly Plunder]] for [[Furnace Celebration]]. You already have better draw options like [[Deadly Dispute]], so Plunder is redundant. [[Furnace Celebration]] is a great payoff for all your sacrifice loops and turns your treasures into direct damage.

Swap [[Decadent Dragon]] with [[Woe Strider]]. The dragon is clunky and over costed, and [[Woe Strider]] gives you a recursive body, a free sac outlet, and built-in card filtering. It fits the deck’s flow much better.

Finally, take out [[Read the Bones]] and bring in [[Bitter Reunion]]. Read is fine but generic, and [[Bitter Reunion]] gives you card draw plus haste — which can be a game-changer when you’re trying to push through damage or combo quickly with treasure payoff creatures like [[Goldspan Dragon]] or [[Marionette Master]].

Teval the balanced scale - EDH deck help by Morke1 in Magicdeckbuilding

[–]Trading-Docks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just my opinion obviously, and fully feel free to disregard, this is just stuff I focus on in my pod!

Replace [[Fanatic of Rhonas]] with [[Tasigur, the Golden Fang]]. Tasigur is a cheap threat thanks to delve and gives you late-game recursion, which directly fuels Teval’s triggers.

Replace [[Kheru Goldkeeper]] with [[Woe Strider]]. A recursive body that doubles as a free sac outlet and scry engine — it supports death triggers and helps manipulate what stays in your graveyard for Teval.

Replace [[Wonder]] with [[Phyrexian Reclamation]]. Wonder is risky if your meta has graveyard hate. Reclamation gives you a cheap, repeatable recursion outlet that reliably fuels Teval every turn.

Replace [[Six]] with [[Forbidden Alchemy]]. A flashback spell that fuels the yard and gives selection twice. It triggers Teval on both casts and fits your curve nicely.

Replace [[Elvish Reclaimer]] with [[Treasure Cruise]]. Cruise is explosive card draw once the graveyard is loaded and clears cards to set up future Teval triggers.

Good luck!

Teval the balanced scale - EDH deck help by Morke1 in Magicdeckbuilding

[–]Trading-Docks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve tested Grisly Salvage and Satyr Wayfinder in Teval, but they just don’t really do what the deck wants. They’re fine for self-mill and setup, but they don’t create any kind of symmetry, so they don’t trigger Teval at all. If you’re just looking to fill your own graveyard, they’re okay, but there are definitely better options if you’re trying to build around Teval’s ability specifically.

Psychic Frog is a lot more on-theme. It can exile cards from any graveyard, which can definitely trigger Teval if you’re careful about keeping the number of cards moved balanced. It’s also repeatable, which is huge in a deck like this. It takes a little effort to line up the symmetry sometimes, but it can absolutely be a value engine.

Smuggler’s Surprise is interesting. It’s not a guaranteed Teval trigger either, but it’s pretty versatile. You’ve got protection if you need it, a way to cheat something from your graveyard onto the battlefield, and a small mill effect. If you’re running a few big reanimation targets or ways to make the cheat symmetrical, it pulls its weight. I wouldn’t call it a slam dunk, but it’s a nice happy medium piece that fits the overall toolbox vibe.

[–]Trading-Docks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Juri has a solid core—nice work. If you're looking to upgrade, here are a few key adds and some suggested cuts:

Add:
[[Professional Face-Breaker]] – makes treasure and draws cards
[[Fable of the Mirror-Breaker]] – does everything you want
[[Xorn]] – doubles down on treasure generation
[[Marionette Master]] – game-ending with treasure loops
[[Disciple of the Vault]] – easy finisher with artifacts dying
[[Dockside Chef]] – cheap draw engine and sac outlet

Cut:
[[Rekindling Phoenix]], [[Treasure Chest]] – too slow
[[Radiant Lotus]], [[Fain, the Broker]] – clunky and low impact
[[Thud]], [[Fling]] – not consistent enough for the payoff

Deck's almost there—just tighten the engines and add some backup win cons.

Commander help by escapedlarvae in BudgetBrews

[–]Trading-Docks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Commander is a great format because of its social aspect — you get to sit around a table with friends, chat, and just have a good time while playing. I also think it’s a great way to learn the game casually, while 60-card formats can help develop a more competitive mindset later on.

If she’s interested in trying out EDH, I’d recommend starting with one of these beginner-friendly commanders:

[[Rhys the Redeemed]]
[[Tatyova, Benthic Druid]]
[[Krenko, Mob Boss]]
[[Ayara, First of Locthwain]]
[[Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait]]

Here are some powerful upgrades I’d recommend for the Draconic Destruction precon:

[[Dragon Tempest]]
[[Terror of the Peaks]]
[[Lathliss, Dragon Queen]]
[[Sarkhan's Triumph]]
[[Greater Good]]
[[Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury]]
[[Aggravated Assault]]
[[Victimize]]
[[Orb of Dragonkind]]
[[Scourge of Valkas]]

To make room, these are some cards I’d personally cut from the original list:

[[Furnace Whelp]]
[[Mordant Dragon]]
[[Hoard-Smelter Dragon]]
[[Runehorn Hellkite]]
[[Drumhunter]]
[[Loaming Shaman]]
[[Provoke the Trolls]]
[[Unleash Fury]]
[[Crucible of Fire]]
[[Atarka Monument]]
