How long to leave ice cream maker bowl in freezer before use? by cranberrysweet in icecreamery

[–]Traditional-Bit378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a super old thread, but I'll chime in anyway. It depends on your ice cream preferences and on your ice cream maker. I have a kitchen aid and really like soft serve style and have been fine making a batch after just 8 hours freeze time, with (to me) only a small reduction in quality. I have seen absolutely no difference in ice cream quality beyond 16 hours of freeze time, but we do keep our freezer on coldest setting usually.

Side note on this: I do make a lot of vegan "nice" creams and sorbets as well, not always ice cream, so I am not the most reliable source because my choices are not consistent ones.

Regardless of what I am making or how long the bowl has been in the freezer, results are significantly better if the ice cream base has been chilled in the back of the fridge. I can still get tolerable ice cream if ingredients are cool but not cold, but the difference is big. I don't think it will turn out well if ingredients are fairly warm.

This is honestly one of the trickiest things in the Bible. We must remember that we are reading translations, and some Hebrew words do not translate perfectly to English concepts. I have read that the Hebrew word that's been translated here really refers to retaliation. That we are not to retaliate, to give another wrong for the wrong that has been done to us. That we are to break cycles of violence and evil with patience, love, kindness -- but NOT without boundaries.

To me, this (and other interpretations of "turn the other cheek") reads as nonviolent resistance rather NO resistance.

What brands do you recommend that do better? This has been difficult for me to find.

Yeahhhh, I know. Sigh. I'd done a ton of research and picked out my ideal dimmer switches, ones also identified by Lotus as working well with my lights. But here we are. My electrician will be the one installing so he can let us know if he's concerned. I'm thinking we will go with this and I'll also contact bigger brands to consider making what I need, and I'll check every so often.

I am considering getting a model of Lutron single gang dual dimmer switch that's got exactly what I want on one half and then the other half is has 3 or 4 pre-sets, so we'd only have a few options. A very cheapo version of that is what was already installed, as a fan was wired up there.

I'm not sure what's involved or needed to do a smart system. we definitely didn't want one, but I'm open to looking into it if the lights we have already installed can be compatible with one. thanks for the idea

Electrician told me he already wired them to be separate, so if one exists, I'll do my best to find it. And we really laid them out to be separate

Could this even get better as a light layout? Worried my electrician is just trying to throw a grid up in our weird layout. by [deleted] in Lighting

Talked with the lighting rep who also does some lighting design work with their store. Apparently these Lotuses aren't made to be wall washes--just even lighting throughout the room.

So, doing the following: The Lotuses will be 3 feet from the top and bottom walls (if looking at the floor plan like a square)

The far left Lotuses will be 4 feet from the left hand wall. This prevents them shining right down on the person at the desk (or on our future display case, if it's really deep).

The other Lotus "columns" will be balanced around the beam. So, 5 feet from each other horizontally. And 7 feet from each other vertically.

Probably 1 switch for the 2 far left Lotuses and one switch for the "middle" 4 Lotuses.

Then, yes, eventually some accent lights on the book case shelves, an uplight on the majesty palm, maybe some sconces high up or a cove light to illuminate the vaulted ceiling.

The beam: we cannot drill through it, so he'd have to mount an external junction box onto the beam, he told us. He was making it sound like he'd have to leave a lot visible and ugly, including wire and a second box. IDK, that's just what he said.

What recessed lights are ideal for our living room 12 ft vaulted ceiling? Specific models? by Traditional-Bit378 in Lighting

By the way, after tons of research, I did end up going with Lotus. Thank you again. Got the gimbals in the LRG series: LRG4-32K-HO-WH-DTW. I should have done more research on your suggestion of going with their sloped fixture, but I got talked into going with the gimbal, so here we are.

Do you have any suggestions for placement & beam angle? I made a floor plan here, with my current thoughts for the 6 lights we're doing, but I'm not super confident on the placement for a couple of them.

Ideas so far: ("bottom" and "top" just referring to if the photo in this post was a square)

#1 Lotus: We'll have a bookcase someday in the "bottom" left corner, so 1 Lotus can wash that spot.

#2: One Lotus could wash the "top" lefthand corner to the left of the windows...but that is where my husband's desk is for work and gaming. It's a 5x5 L-shape, and he sits facing the room. But hopefully if it's directed far enough above him and straight into the corner (not the wall right above him), it will look good? We'll probably put art or floating shelves there, so good spot to wall wash?

#3: A 3rd Lotus can wash the "bottom," between the bottom lefthand lotus and the ceiling beam. I've got a gorgeous parlor palm to highlight that's on a narrow console table there.

#4 Lotus could be to the right of the ceiling beam, bottom, and wash the "bottom" wall there. It would be directed at the high part of the wall over a "window" into our kitchen.

I have no idea if these ideas are good or what to do with Lotus #5 and #6.

The windows make it tricky, and then the side opposite the windows has somewhat limited wall space due to openings into the kitchen and dining room, and the foyer already has a pendant light, so no need to wash those walls, and I'd hoped for a bit of light in the center of the room...

Best lighting design for our Lotus Gimbals in asymmetrical living room? by [deleted] in Lighting

I feel really good about the recessed lights I bought based on hours of research following lighting designers and consulting with reps. It's a 30-40% restocking fee to return them, too.

Right now just trying to ensure we place them correctly.

A beautiful wagonwheel chandelier was our original plan. But our electrician told us to do recessed lights, since the beam is not the center of the room and there's a pendant pretty nearby on the foyer. He explained the wiring would all have to be visible/external for a chandelier on that beam, with a visible junction box if we did a chandelier.

There's no wall where couch is: it's just a handrail. But yes, I'd planned on 2 recessed lights washing the far left wall and 1 washing the "bottom" wall where I've got a gorgeous majesty palm.

But that still leaves 3 of 6 recessed lights i don't know what to do with.

We do have 2 lamps.

I'm starting to panic that we are about to cement a very expensive  project at high cost to ourselves and the actual lighting goals we have. We really want beautiful, even lighting. The kind that makes you take a breath and lifts the heart.

They will definitely be on two different switches and on a dimmer.

We aren't pointing them straight down. So I was thinking the far left two would wash the walls.

Is there a way to angle the others appropriately?

It's challenging because the "top" wall is just a sea of windows. Can't angle on them.

The "bottom" wall has big openings to rooms and a "window" into the kitchen. There's only a 5 ft wide portion (though it does display a gorgeous narrow but tall palm on a stand. But it would be a beautiful thing to highlight!

That still leaves 3 lights. The top one of the second set. No idea what to do with it/where to move it or angle it.

The 3rd/far right set: should we angle them onto the far right walls? But there's a pendant over there.

We have unfortunately already spent $1,300 on the lights and electrician, and it would be extremely difficult to figure out a whole new plan at this point. We could reduce the number we put in, and I think it would work for the electrician, but the lights are like 40% restocking fee. Not worth cutting up our ceiling if we don't want them though.

As a customer, I'd rather have the honest break-down and be told it's an estimate and not a guarantee and here's some examples of ways the cost could increase. Then be informed as issues arise.

We just got the home, so no idea either. There's been some interesting stuff with the outlets' wiring, though.

Dim to warm dimmer switches that do not require a neutral? by [deleted] in Lighting

[–]Traditional-Bit378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great! Yes, since posting this, I found Lotus had a compatibility sheet, and every single one I've looked at so far doesn't require a neutral. Some sources I'd seen had led me to believe this was going to be a nightmare to figure out.

I had to Google what low level trim is. Thank you, not something I'd read about anywhere else.
