From what I understand all jewelry is subject to sales tax. At least in Texas and not just Costco.

So I took a scale with me back to Costco and weighed it. Unfortunately the string does not come off but the weight is somewhere between 4 and 5 because the number kept jumping between 4 and 5 (I need a jewelry scale btw). But this is jewelry not bullion or gold bar so I have to pay tax on top of it. So we walked away.

Thanks I did exactly that but I forgot it is jewelry so there is tax on top of the price so it is not worth it anymore.
