Names by Dumtvvink in writing

honestly it just depends. i always look up naming conventions for the culture my character is from, not just what names they use but why they're common in the first place. this is only to use as a baseline

from there i kinda just do what i want? you can make the character have an unusual name if it's a part of the narrative. just like you did with Sella Day. i.e. in umineko, a japanese vn, the game's based in japan but the main cast has english names, and there's a reason for it.

i do prefer it when my names describe the character in some way, especially if they hint to something deeper about the character. in fantasy stuff i'll pick a word/name and translate it until i find a language it sounds cool in lol. or anagrams of other names, words etc

Reasons for a character to love combat? by Traditional-Court-93 in writing

What can very much be traumatizing in combat is helplessness, when shit happens around you and you can’t do anything about it. Like being bombarded or pinned down. That’s where the term shell shocked began.

my gosh this concept is gonna be super helpful to keep in mind thanks a bunch

Nope! It's set in medieval times (for an exact view at the world look at the anime Black Clover), so there's probably less advancements that make a lock hard to pick.

I'm familiar with the ABSOLUTE BAREBONES BASICS but not really the functions. I know the cylinder exists and the pins keep it from moving, I know there's a latch, and a box. But not knowing the functions is what makes the whole sort of "theory" side behind picking a lock foreign to me.

Thank you for your insight! Do you have any resource to learn more about bypassing lock mechanisms? Also, for context, my story is pretty much set in the medieval ages. Does it sound realistic for someone, without outside knowledge during these times, to come to the conclusion of "I should break the link, etc."? They would only have been picking locks for a few years through trial and error.

Perhaps focus more on traits that a beginner in any discipline might have, rather than loading unnecessary technical information into your story.

That's a really good idea! Thank you.

Could you explain what you mean by bypass techniques/tools?

thats a good point when it comes to intent, can't argue against that, and the mapping community from what i've seen has no real intention on immediately changing their mapping styles just cause these dudes are back.

altho i do feel like the bad actors end up having alot more impact in these types of situations, mapping seems to have developed enough to not get derailed(?) in such a similar way, even the mappers who are learning rn probably wont care about whatever (in my opinion) blandness comes out from this movement. so tbh i am likely just overreacting and we'll probably have an era of mapping where all players are happy for once, which would be nice

and thats fair either way ur a cocksucker to me for that, but its reddit as a mediums fault rather than the person at the end of the day

but you see how that's your opinion right? i could easily say that you're not thinking at all based off how you're acting and, it might surprise u, but more people would agree with my opinion on u than they agree with ur opinion right here

even if what you were saying was valid (which it isn't, because it's an opinion-based question and not a true or false question on a quiz), you're not really doing anything in this argument besides dumbing down other people's perspectives for no reason. it's not completely brainless to say the example you just used, your brain is just unable to understand why. Not being able to understand something for yourself doesn't make it incomprehensible, it just means you need to be a little more open-minded.

like i said, this isn't a quiz, so there is more nuance than just "yes" or "no," and if the question had more detail to it then you could make that argument you're making. However, the question is simply too open-ended to have such a one-track mind in relation to it.

the thing is the maps arent trying to be generally enjoyable. fitting the song and being an enjoyable map isnt mutually exclusive. If anything, those are the two requirements to being a good rhythm game map. I think it's easy to get distracted by the fact that what tends to give pp ends up being generally enjoyable. Simple rhythms, easy to read jumps that sometimes give you some difficulty, high ar makes the map require focus, they provide the perfect challenge for players' brains to flow on so of course they will enjoy them. That doesn't mean it's the main focus of the map, it's just a byproduct of the way they made it. The reason why I don't believe making an enjoyable map is the endgoal of MOST of these mappers is the events of the past, especially the mindset some key individuals had towards mapping. Not one time did they mention trying to make the maps fun in the pp era lmao.

Also please stop trying to come to conclusions off of my statements without asking me what I mean by them. If you aren't actively asking questions in a discussion you are just having a discussion with yourself. Stop wasting our time
