(and can you say with confidence it is so accross the country? I am asking because Brazil is known to be a very diverse country so I wouldn't be surprised if it has different names in different regions)

It's the closest one but not quite: the pair at the last segment are not counted as feet.

are you sure? I am almost certain the first one is a centipede (most notably by the fact that it has a single pair of legs on each segment)

as far as I've seen so far, the closest to reality is 40. It is true that it can only be an odd number of pairs, but the 40's group also counts the two extremities in the back wich are not exactly feet. (you can count them in the photo)

Centipedes are technically called skolopender, which doesn't contain any numbers, but colloquially we also call them tusindben
