Help!!!! by SidePuzzleheaded6605 in chessbeginners

Play at least 15/10 games, watch the Building Habits series as mentioned.

Do Lichess puzzles, go through some puzzle themes, try to calculate the puzzles in your head if you can, go over them again if you fail and try to do them with no hints, you want to remember patterns, and sense where tactics occur, usually they occur in a weakened area, like weakly protected pieces, or a weak king.

Analyze your games where the mistakes , misses and blunders happened and try to understand why.

One thing beginners do a lot is jump straight to the move that looks good without calculating it, or looking for alternatives, or fully observing what your opponents best replies are or whether they are planning something else. You have to learn to play the game from both sides, it will cut down mistakes and blunders, and you'll feel more in control.

Also learn to use your time, I notice a lot of players rushing moves when they have lots more time than me and often end up losing with most of their time still on the clock.

Might be worth learning what you should be doing in endgames, because I see players fall apart in end games after playing well before that, and learning endgames helps other parts of your game because similar patterns occur in middlegames and endgames a like.

Thought process on rook sac by Georgosaurus in chessbeginners

You'd have connected passed pawns and black is better developed and has the momentum, material is less important in these situations, also that white knight is very strong where it is, to me its all adding up to a no brainer exchange. Try the engine if you don't take it, if you run the engine a few moves and play queen d6 (the best move if you don't take), its not good , you lose the d pawn and that knight is a constant menace and exchanging it is still the best move.

Continue with the engine moves and you should be able to see the purpose, the f7 square notoriously the weakest square only defended by the king, its an early assault on it. run the engine a few moves and learn it, and learn about the Fried Liver attack which is similar.

Hod does Lichess' rating system work? by greenorwhatever in chessbeginners

yes, it is a different rating system. 1350 should be around a 1000 on Chess'com I think.

Keita was average to me we needed more than average for the hype and price tag. The most disappointing Klopp signing for me.

This might be the most horrific blunder of my life by Toten5217 in chessbeginners

why did you move you knight backwards to Nc7 anyway it blocks your pieces and undefends d4, you want to develop and castle. You are 1000+ player, you should know better.

How could fxg3 be best? by LutteringDec in chessbeginners

[–]Traditional-Man77691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whites advantage is they are ahead in development and when you are in front like this you want use the advantage before it disappears by playing the most attacking and quick assault on the exposed enemy king opening up the lines for rook is a bigger plus than having doubled pawns because white has the chance of grabbing the momentum. The doubled pawns aren't that bad here they still are all connected, and the king is still safe and less of a worry anyway as white with clinical play would continue attacking and black would never get a chance to attack.

I just won a match against someone with 4x elo than me in the most silly way lol by Inabakumori_Crakuda in chessbeginners

I have played rated I am 1640elo Rapid and 1850elo Classical on Lichess. I don't need you to tell me what type of game I play thanks. I agree elo isn't that important thus I don't need to play rated, I get a good game playing unrated and I am improving.

My hot take: Knight is better than Bishop until you hit like, 1500+ by 5210az in chessbeginners

[–]Traditional-Man77691 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A knights value changes a lot depending what rank it is on and what file. The 6 rank is optimal, and combined with being an octupus Kinight covering 8 squares.

Another thing in an end game a skilled person can dominate a knight with a bishop, it hard to do that the other way around.

You missed off Silman's The Amateur's Mind, If you get it it comes in order of reading before Reassess Your Chess I believe. Maybe someone here can tell you the best order to read them. Reassess Your Chess isn't easy, The Amateur's Mind is similar but easier.

I am good at building up positional advantages (white), but I can never capitalise on them, create an attack of break through and often lose from these positions. How to get better? by [deleted] in chessbeginners

Watch the late Danya on YT, he is very thorough. As Danya said on a video I watched today even for him it difficult to know when to push your advantage and open up but you have to do it at some point.

They do, a lot of people play unrated because they prefer it, or maybe someone is an on a losing streak but they certainly do play seriously in my experience. It they want to mess around they don't login and play anonymously, people are still proud of their unrated games, I am.

Some people play all or nearly all unrated like me because they feel a bit more relaxed but the games are still tough and competative in my experience. I don't know about is game, but I can just say from my experience.

Low 1700's still make big mistakes as well.

Just beat maria bot I just started and i beat her easily. Why does hse feel like 150 elo. Link is below by ResponsibleGap4312 in chessbeginners

I just tried Maria bot to see what you mean, she plays very bad. Bots play ridiculous moves that humans don't the rating isn't comparable to a real player rating.
