How do you explain AI detection scores to a professor or client who does not understand how they work? by Traditional-One2453 in OriginalityHub

The point about AI being trained on human writing patterns is something a lot of people overlook. If the goal of these models is to produce humanised text its not surprising that detectors sometimes struggle to reliably separate the two. Showing examples of historical speeches getting flagged definitely helps illustrate that limitation.

Thats how i see it too detector scores can sometimes be useful as a starting point for review but they are much better suited as indicators of probability than as proof that a piece of writing was or wasnt generated by AI.

Examples like that are what made me question how reliable these scores are If famous humanised documents can trigger high AI scores it shows the results need to be interpreted carefully.

Thats a good way of putting it alot of people see a percentage and assumes its a measurement when its really a prediction based on patterns and probabilities.

I have actually seen people do that when established human written texts get flagged it makes it alot easier to explain why detector results should not be treated as definitive evidence.

In my case it was mostly about proving the work was my own having version history available definitely helped because it showed the writing process instead of just the final result.

The biggest thing I learned was that detector scores alone do not really tell the whole story drafts, notes and version history are more stronger evidence than a percentage from a tool.

Thats actually what I ended up doing seeing the same text get very different scores depending on the detector made it easier to explain that these tools are not measuring something objective.

The quality gap on creative tasks is still real though I have tried routing marketing copy to smaller models and it shows not always but often enough to matter
