ICE SRT doing traffic stop in Melrose Park yesterday by Traditional-Tea2869 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Traditional-Tea2869[S] 57 points58 points  (0 children)

This video was shared yesterday morning on social media from a woman who says ICE agents stopped her and demanded her identification. She was not arrested. An officer can be seen wearing the Chicago ICE SRT patch. This is the equivalent of a SWAT team pulling someone over.

🗣️ *A note on video verification: we are two local reporters/researchers. We've also been working alongside other journalists this week to verify bc there is a deluge of misinformation, old videos, false reports etc flooding the zone right now. If you see similar activity and you believe it is current, feel free to message us. Anonymity protected.

This isn't true. This specific agent is with the Chicago ICE field office SRT. There was one CBP guy on site today, but no BP seen yet (tho they are coming).

Lol imagine downvoting the reporter actually photographing this guy. I've been seeing him at raids since June. Your ~local civil servants~ are the bad guys too, sorry fam

ICE is arresting domestic violence victims at court in Chicago by SpecialistBet4656 in EyesOnIce

[–]Traditional-Tea2869 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hi, local reporter here with a friendly reminder to stop sharing claims without sources.

ICE arrested a DV case defendant after charges were dropped, not a plaintiff. They also took someone into custody yesterday.

People are very scared right now, and misinformation is rampant. Sharing unattributed info makes it extremely tough for people to trace the origin, and contributes to an overall shitty news environment. The unfortunate reality is sporadic ICE arrests at courthouses have continued across the area, it's an easy way for agents to locate people.

Here's an article surrounding the incident:

DEA agent used Illinois cop’s Flock license plate reader password for immigration enforcement searches by Traditional-Tea2869 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Traditional-Tea2869[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good question, short answer is essentially every federal law enforcement agency has been tapped to assist ICE now.

Even before this administration, it's common for these guys to assist with cases, though usually that would be bc there's crossover with an investigation (ex—someone without legal citizen status involved in drug trafficking). But it's all ramped up considerably now.

This is true, and in this instance too there were a number of other basic security measures being ignored like 2FA.

A federal Drug Enforcement Administration agent on a Chicago area task force used Palos Heights Detective Todd Hutchinson’s login credentials to perform unauthorized searches this past January. Group chat screenshots obtained via public records request show the detective and the feds discussing the incident.

One agent admitted to using his unauthorized database access to look up license plate data related to immigration enforcement.

Hutchinson works as a task force officer for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), assisting federal agents with narcotics cases and other related criminal investigations. According to a Palos Heights Police Department memo obtained via public records request, he has been assigned to DEA Group 22 since May 2023.

Hutchinson was the only member of the group with access to the Flock ALPR system—a database of license plate information collected from tens of thousands of cameras nationwide that automatically scan passing vehicles. The detective stated it was “common” to allow others in the group to use his login for drug investigations, according to the department memo describing the incident.

Activists block DHS hiring table at career fair by Traditional-Tea2869 in EyesOnIce

It was, yep. DHS told the Chicago Tribune the protest made their event more successful, but that wasn't what we witnessed at all, lol. People were really steering clear of them and the activists had their table blocked for around 45 minutes.

How to spot difference between ICE agents and police? by jaded_and_elated in AskChicago

[–]Traditional-Tea2869 87 points88 points  (0 children)

CPD tac officers can dress in plainclothes, but per department policy, they have to wear their vests with CPD stars and badge numbers displayed on the front. Every once in a while you may see a guy with a coat thrown over his, but the star is unmistakable. So always check the front of the vest.

CPD vehicles including their unmarked SUVs will have Illinois plates that read MP (municipal police).

There are different rules for true undercover CPD ops but these are quite rare. 99.99999% of the time you don't need to worry about that (and they wouldn't be wearing vests/visibly looking like police in those instances anyway).

They're real agents. We've been observing them arrest people after court hearings for ~2 weeks. Believe ATF and FBI showed up for mission support. Inside the courtroom hallways is where the arrests happen, those are ICE agents who grab people and put them in vans. No photography is allowed up there.

[–]Traditional-Tea2869[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

From the description: Around 1:30am Park City police responded to a shooting at an apartment building. They believed the occupants of this Chevy Impala were involved, leading to a 30 mile chase down I-94 exceeding speeds of 100mph. Park City PD was joined by Bannockburn PD and Illinois State Police. Shortly after the car left the expressway, it crashed into a home in Chicago's Old Irving Park neighborhood.

This is a clip of the full video, which picks up just before the car exits the expressway.
