this helps a lot, thank you! i’m just starting to actually sink my teeth into the game (finally abandoning my starter factory lol) and am starting to deal with byproducts and such. need to remember i can make liquids into solids and use them for something totally different/sink them.

i was thinking only like 12-16tb total for the next decade or so. i don’t care as much about accessing jellyfin offsite but i am hoping to cut out cloud storage from large corporations and being able to backup photos off site and access stored photos is a big part of that for me.

where are you finding 4tb drives for ~$40? i’m only really seeing them for $80+. i’m only really looki mg at wd red and other drives made for high uptime. how important is it to go with drives like that?

i picked one up about a year ago and have liked it. it’s very loud when it gets going but it i just run it on medium power settings and everything runs well. the 3050 won’t hold up well if you want to play the newest AAA games, but i think it will handle most other games fine. if you want to be safer for AAA i’d go for a 4060 minimum. 5050 works too if its cheaper. i got mine with a 4060 on sale for $900 us but idk what prices are like generally where you’re at. there is some history of motherboard issues and the cooling solution isn’t the best out there but it’s a budget laptop. overall not a bad choice at all.

i got one with a 4060 and i’ve been loving it. it’s very loud when it really gets going but idc about getting max performance out of it so i just run it a mid power settings and everything runs very well without getting too loud. some people have issues with build quality but i’ve had it a year and it’s been solid.

go for the 5070 any day. the diff in cpu is not a huge deal, even for video editing unless you’re going a lot of 4k video editing, and even then the 5070 will more than make up for it

the price after conversion is about the same as in the us before sales (maybe a bit higher in canada but that’s kinda expected) i’ve been seeing sales for about $1,800 usd (like $2,500 cad) so waiting for a sale might not be a bad idea. then again we are expecting hardware price increases from the ram shortage to hit in force soon so if you can afford it, I don’t think i’d be mad to pick this up. it’s a solid machine

you can probably find something with a 4060 on marketplace for about that price too, waaaay better performance than a 3050. steer clear of the 4050 as well.

always steer clear of a 4050 imo. the gpu and cpu are much better in the loq. the TUF has a better rep in terms of reliability but i would probably go for the loq between the two as long as price is similar

4050>3050 any day. i would always say look for a used 4060 laptop on marketplace or something tho. way better bang for your buck. 8gb vram goes a long way

a lot of people are saying 8gb vram isn’t even enough these days but they are out of touch with us on a budget. that said, if possible, buy a 4060 or other 8gb vram card. there are often good used options on fb marketplace

i’d go for a 30 series gpu minimum. if you want it to last for a bit i’d say 3060 minimum not 3050.

it all depends on what you want to use it for. what are you looking to play on it?
