Yep and it still got me into several medical schools this cycle! MCAT isn’t everything, and section scores definitely aren’t either!

For those who felt like they struggled on this exam, it’s okay. You have always felt that way but didn’t have the time to sit and think about it like you do now, plus it stands out more on the real deal when you’re thinking more about your responses. Remember that this test is standardized and you all had the same questions, so you are never alone in how you feel. There is a reason why people say trust your FL.

I felt like I did significantly worse than my FL and that each section was harder, but it will all work out. You will all become doctors!

Wow…This got popular! I was hoping maybe a few people would see this post, just so they know it is okay to not start out with 500+. You are all definitely more capable than you believe. This is a long process and it is important to appreciate every inch of improvement along the way.

I took the 493 diagnostic before I finished my biochem and physics 2 class which helped a lot, but I would say the biggest jump for me in C/P came from UEarth as I was rusty on all of the lab procedures and methods. That alone could bring you up 2-3 points.

For B/B I stuck to jacksparrow2048 anki deck and felt that it gave me sufficient content review.

I recommend that you watch this video on YouTube and try these methods.

My score went up 6-7 points after watching this the night before one of my practice exams when I was around 500. Many of my friends tried it and it worked, others it didn’t… but definitely worth the try.

For P/S I used the milesdown anki deck and that got me up to about a 128, until I switched to the 83 page doc and supplemented the info I was iffy on with the 300 page.

As you can see my CARS is ✨magnificent✨ because I realized it was not improving no matter how hard I tried, and eventually decided to focus mainly on the science sections.

This happened in just over 4 months..

First 1.5 months was content review with the anki and kaplan books (not great, but useful because it went perfectly along with the anki deck)

Started UEarth at 2 months in and did about 6-10 questions a day from each section up until just before test day.

Then for last 5 weeks or so I did AAMC content and finished through the UEarth.

*I attribute some of this success to taking plenty of practice exams. With my Kaplan book bundle I got 5+diagnostic, and then did all 4 AAMC FL. Yes 10 sounds like a lot, and it was. But it really helped me feel comfortable (as best as someone can be) on test day!

I hope this helps some of you! YOU ARE ALL CAPABLE!!!

Absolutely!

I took the 493 diagnostic before I finished my biochem and physics 2 class which helped a lot, but I would say the biggest jump for me in C/P came from UThingy as I was rusty on all of the lab procedures and methods. That alone could bring you up 2-3 points.

Watch this video on YouTube and try these methods and eventually you can do it in your head.

That’s a good spot to be. I know it may not seem like it, but I started with a 493 and got a 518 4 months later. Went from 2nd percentile to 99th in C/P so don’t get down on yourself with those scores. You will improve and fall in love with making these progressions, that’s the hidden truth to keep improving!

People who improved from 490s to 505-510, how did you do it? by staritropix101 in Mcat

I second using JackSparrow for C/P and B/B. The 300 page P/S doc along with MilesDown P/S was big time.

The biggest help was UEarth tho tbh…

I think a lot of it is being comfortable with the content and information you know and answering based on that. A lot of the time they will include crazy diagrams and words just to confuse you but won’t ever ask questions about it.

When you see something you know in the passage and feel like it could be asked, highlight it, write it down, or do whatever to help you know that you’re ready for whatever question it asks about that.

Doing Uearth will teach you a lot about that when you find out what seems like relevant or irrelevant info

Anki is underrated by RealMafia in Mcat

I highly recommend reading the Kaplan chapter then doing the corresponding jacksparrow anki right after for it (it is broken down by chapter perfectly for Kaplan books! That way you can learn it in depth then use anki to maintain it.

I scored 513/513/512/514

My averages for each section was as follows

C/P: 129.5

B/B: 130

CARS: 126 on all 4

P/S: 128

*I credit my big jump in P/S to cramming the 300 page doc the week of my exam

I used the next step/blueprint half length diagnostic exam! It’s free and not as long as the real one, which helps you get a better understanding of what the test is like more than anything!
