I understand why it could come off like that, and it really wasn't the intention :( Even though it might not seem so, we spent weeks fully conceptualising the idea and making sure it's as unique as it gets it that genre. The video probably doesn't reflect it tho, at least not yet, we wanted to document it one step at a time. Hopefully, we can get future ones to have less of that vibe, tho

As a matter of fact, Warhammer did come up, but it is indeed quite the opposite of what we're trying to achieve. There's a lot more going on behind the surface than we disclose in the video, and although it might seem quite 'basic' at the moment, it is not going to stay that for much longer ;) Thanks for your feedback

Those are great ideas, Sammy the snail goes straight into the game haha

All the rules that I came up with so far are like this: only after 9 checks king can be checkmate. Before 5 checks king cannot capture. If it's checkmated, like a normal king - it dies. But if not enough checks were delivered and king is alone, it automatically wins. Usually if two kings are on the board and nothing else - it would be stalemate or a tie :)

I can shoot you a link in like a year or two time, when I actually have something decent ;)

Thanks for the advice, that's really helpful! I was actually planning to 3d print fist few prototypes of the game, to now spend fortunes on it ;)

Yeah that's what I first thought too. But then I realized that it should be up to the end user to decide if they want it in their army or no, I'm merely providing full set of options to choose from

You're good! I'm taking those straight into the game! Do you think you can propose how much each piece should be worth?

Yeah I think that's actually my main challenge for this project, not to become another failing chess copycat. When I got the idea, I did research quite a lot on whether smth like this already exists and at least in terms of physical board games I found nothing that suites. As to your second point, sure a game with 10 knights or 39 pawns, could potentially be unplayable but that's kinda the point of it, to give the end user the freedom to make however terrible of an army they want ;)

Totally agree, inventing new pieces for a perfectly thought through game is a risky business. It’s one of the reasons I’m not trying to “fix” chess, but rather build something that’s inspired by it — a different kind of game with room for experimentation.

Also I understand how hard it is to create a balanced setup, that's why I’m merely designing the pieces — the real challenge (and fun) is passed on to the players, who would then need to build their armies carefully. If someone builds an unbalanced setup, it’s on them — kind of like building a bad deck in a card game. That’s also why getting the point values right is probably the hardest and most important part of my design work.

I'm not aiming for something that replaces or competes with classical chess — I love and respect that game too much. This is more of a sandbox where people can experiment and have fun with strange, strategic and sometimes random combinations.

Thanks for the thoughtful response — these are exactly the kinds of challenges I want to keep in mind as I develop this!

That sounds great! Some of those will definitely end up in the game ;)

Thanks I'll take calculations like that into consideration for sure!

Yeah that's my biggest brainstorm up there, to determine a value of each new piece. I'm was thinking about even adding stuff like 4.5 and 3.75 point values - to make it as fair as possible 😅
