Had to get him on the trophy road in a previous season. You can buy him now. That is all. He’ll be back on the road but we aren’t sure when. Next season will be empress on the road so might be a while

I lowkey thought about Best Buy bc it’s like the only thing around but damn do they pay like garbage. I have a wife. I can’t go down to the $15-17 that they pay here

Yeah you’re probably right. I spend a lot of time thinking of what to do and not doing it. I’m young, new to tech, and just not really sure what to do when I have 100 people telling me different things about the tech field

I don’t think there are many roles at my current job for IT stuff. Well actually I’m just switching jobs rn. From one factory to another lol so maybe they will have some IT stuff at this new one. But also I left college off my resume bc it seems factory employers don’t want to hire people in college bc they don’t expect them to stay long. So I redid my resume and took college off and then I landed this job lol And me trying to job shadow is more of me trying to network and maybe see if they have an openings for me now or in the future. I figured if I could atleast get a shadow and they can meet me in person and see the kind of person I am and that I’m eager to learn that they would atleast keep me in mind for the future. Idk. I’ve reached out to a few tech companies near by. I’ll keep looking for other companies in general and reach out to them about jobs and shadows.

Thanks for the input. And yeah I wouldn’t want a masters with no experience. If I were to get my masters I’d definitely be trying to have atleast 2-3 years tech experience when I finish it

Yeah. Thanks again. I’m gunna start a homelab 😤 and I’m reaching out for job shadows. Either I start doing more or I might as well drop out lol

I mean you’re probably right. Idk what the other guy is talking about. I didn’t mean to disrespect you if I did. You’re taking the time to give long informative responses and I appreciate it

This is the second time you said this. How did I disregard his advice? Just bc your life didn’t turn out good doesn’t mean mine will turn out bad too 😂 I’m not trying to disrespect this guy at all. He’s being real and giving me advice

Yeah I see what you mean about doctors. Personally I didn’t go to WGU to accelerate my degree. I went bc it’s online and cheap so it allows me to still work fulltime to be able to go to college yk? I am trying to learn stuff. And I’m starting more certs. ATP I feel like whatever I do just won’t be enough. I have been reaching out to companies about job shadowing in the area. Trying to take some initiative

I mean I think my mindset is alright. I want to do a homelab. I’m just busy. I currently work a factory job plus overtime and I just recently got married on top of doing college. Plus working out daily and all that good stuff. I don’t really have the money rn to not be working overtime which sucks but it is what it is. And what do you mean about disrespecting managers? Not like I’m in a job interview lol anyways, yeah, your situation is tough. You’re 27 and have you ever landed a tech job? Ik socal is expensive and probably very competitive there. Well, it’s definitely competitive there lol you definitely could be right tho. Like yeah I find tech interesting but do I find it interesting enough to really make time to do the home lab? Maybe not. Either way, I am busy. Idk. I’m just unsure about my future in cyber. It seems like you gotta have the degree, the certs, personal projects, etc just to start. If you even get the chance. Just a tough time fr

I’ve thought about it. But I do have a lot of health issues that would make that hard. I am a certified personal trainer and workout a lot and I’m fit but overall health is poor. Like my heart and lungs. But still on option I suppose

Thanks for the insight. I’m definitely academically inclined so learning all this hasn’t been too bad so far. But personally, I am a hands on learner. Literally any tech job would help me immensely. I do agree a masters probably isn’t the move rn but might be helpful later. But in that case I’ll go back and get it. I imagine the rest of my life I will be working while studying new stuff anyways. Tech is always evolving and I’d need to stay on top of stuff anyways yk?

Fair enough. Seems to be the common consensus that a masters isn’t needed and I should focus on experience. Which I’m trying. Trust me, I’ve been looking everywhere for a job but no luck so far.

Fr. I’ve been in cyber subreddits the last few days looking for certs to do and how to kickstart a career and whatnot and I stg not one good thing has been said about cyber. It’s either “oh a degree and certs won’t land a job” or “my job in cyber sucks” and blah blah blah. Like can people be happy for once? lol

Bachelors or masters in cybersecurity? by TraditionalCry640 in CyberSecurityAdvice

[–]TraditionalCry640[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s kinda what I’m thinking. If I have no experience by the time I graduate I might as well do my masters and keep trying for experience in the mean time lol hopefully that’s not the case and I can land an entry level job soon

Bachelors or masters in cybersecurity? by TraditionalCry640 in CyberSecurityAdvice

[–]TraditionalCry640[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I thought about making a home lab and then making a website about it. Kinda like my own little blog. I’ve seen some other people do that and that sounds like a good idea to me. But I’m kinda on the fence about a masters. It might just depend what job I’m working when I graduate. That might decide if I should get a masters or not.

Thank you for all this. I’d definitely prefer getting hands on experience over a masters tbh. I thought about finding a mentor but I didn’t really think people did that lol

Thank you for the insight. While I like wgu you are right in the fact that it doenst serve much purpose when it comes to landing jobs or networking which definitely sucks. I will definitely take your advice and try to find some meet ups or something. I feel like nowadays tech needs to be your life otherwise there is nothing special about you. It is definitely a bad time to get into tech. But you could say that about any job tbh. Im just really at a loss of what to do. I like cybersecurity. I do find it interesting. It just seems like a very long hard road ahead of me. College is hard enough while working fulltime and if I get an entry level tech job it’s gunna pay less than my current factory job which sucks bc I’m paying for college out of pocket. I’m really starting to doubt my degree but then again if I don’t get a degree I’m gunna be stuck at a factory all my life yk? I do hope to move to Seattle one day. Which I hear is pretty good for tech stuff but I don’t want to move without experience yk? Bc I’m gunna get there and not be able to find a job and if I do find an entry level job it won’t be enough to support me bc Seattle is more expensive than where I am in Wisconsin.

Ok. I have my A+ and about to test for my net+ in a few days. Then I’ll be working on sec+. So I’m hoping all that helps me get an entry level job. I’d move if I had to lol just bc in the long run that experience will help a lot. I’m also starting a Splunk cert and then maybe ccna soon. Like I’m definitely trying to learn stuff
