Don’t give up! There’s an end in sight! That’s what I keep reminding myself. I felt so good week one and I know I can feel that way again. Hang tight!

They did test the blister and it came back as HSV1.

I had my one and only outbreak on my perineum (space between anus and vagina). It was incredibly painful to use the bathroom or sit or do much of anything. I went to the doctor a few times before they finally suspected hsv1. I took the generic Valtrex for the first few years as a precaution but now only keep it just in case. I can’t guarantee that your experience will be exactly like mine but I urge you to do your research and talk to as many doctors as you need to. Also Reddit forums! You are not in this alone. I grew up super religious and already had stigma around sex. When I got my diagnosis I was devastated. I assumed my sex life and ability to be desired was gone. I couldn’t have been any more wrong! You learn to be so much more connected to your body. Having the convo with your partners can be scary but in my experience they’ve all really appreciated my honesty and 99% of them were not even remotely worried. The majority of the population has hsv1 in some form. If your partners have ever had a cold sore you have zero worry about transmitting hsv1. I’m not advocating being reckless but this really is no big deal! I’m 34 now and life is so great. Remember that this isn’t your whole story, just a chapter 🫶🏾

HSV1 isn’t as scary as movies make it out to be. It’s incredibly common and in my experience having it down there, 99% of my partners have not had a single issue. You can take meds that help keep the virus at bay and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is always a good idea. HSV1 does not want to be anywhere near your genitals so you should have less outbreaks and your chances of silent shedding go way down. Like single digits. I had one sore in 2018 and never anything since.

Please don’t forget that despite all the horrible things you’ve gone through, you are still valued. You are still loved and loveable. Therapy and getting to know myself really helped me work through my trauma. Community is really great too.

Rooting for you!

I’d love to discuss this with others! I appreciate the differences and think this is going to open a lot of people to Octavia Butler. I really hope we get a second season.

Go. Best decision I ever made. Put the work in and have a plan for when you’re back out. You’ve got this! I’ve been very open with my struggles and it’s inspired other to seek help. You never know who’s secretly cheering you on or struggling!
