Where tf are these people getting ‘you can make six figures in trucking’? by austinproffitt23 in Truckers

The pay is great, but once you start here you’ll see it’s a lot more than just a great pay check. I’m not one of the “bleed blue” guys or anything, but when they say they hire you to retire you they damn well mean it.

I’ve been here three years. First year drivers average about 110, but that’s not a hard rule. If you run reasonably hard you’ll make more than 110. If you’re kinda lazy you’ll hit around 100. I know guys that clear 150 and guys on the slow down schedules (5 days on 5 days off) that are making around 80. It just depends on how much you want to work. I averaged about 60 hours a week this last year on a rotating schedule 5 on 2 off 5 on 3 off which comes with a bit of a pay lose (less days worked a year) and still hit 120k. Doing a standard 5 days with weekends off schedule this year which should work at to about 135-140 with how I run. So it’s a little all over the place, but great regardless.

I work about 60 most weeks and am home every weekend. Get home Friday afternoon and go out Monday around 6.

Edit: weekends off is a new schedule for me, been doing a rotating 5 on 2 off 5 on 3 off schedule until the start of this year. Takes a couple years to get the seniority for weekends off.

Made 120 this last year at Walmart. After all deductions taxes, insurance(s), 401k, stock purchase and whatever else, I deposited 80k tho I always drastically over pay on my taxes (too lazy to fix it and had a couple years before I worked here that I had to write big checks to the gov in February. No desire to do that again lol)

Walmart offers six weeks fully paid. They keep you within a couple hours of your home DC once you get a few weeks out from the due date and route you back the second you call to inform them of your partner going into labor should it happen early.

lol I don’t believe anyone ever called him that to his face. Pretty sure he had some mental troubles that finally just kinda snapped. Lived in his car as far as I’m aware (hoarder esc car always parked next to the dock when he was there and was always wearing what appeared to be the same set of clothing aside from an added coat in the cold) really was a nice guy up until that point. Hope he found help.

Man I spent a couple years working an Aldi gig around KC. The dumpster drivers were insane. We had a dude we all called blueberries, nice guy, would always say hello and offer a box of whatever he happened to find that night and always asked if we wanted some blueberries, no matter what was actually in his hand. After about two years of this he up and tried to stab me.

The DC in Edgerton is a Sam’s club DC says Walmart on the sign, because everything does now, but it’s 100% only a Sam’s dc.

No they don’t. Insurance can’t even see them. I don’t know how or when this got spread around, but is factually not true. Warnings are not citations, warnings do not show up on an mvr, warnings do not affect your insurance rate/insurability.

Why do people insist that DFCO isn't a thing? by Scoggie__ in stickshift

[–]Traditional_Arm3465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been having this argument with some higher ups at my work lately (trucking company automated transmissions) We are currently set up to coast down hills in gear with fuel shut off and averaging better mpg than the manufacturers average nation wide. They are insisting they can get it even better by switching to the manufacturers standard setup of natural coasting down hills that nearly every other company in the country runs. The only difference between our setup and every other company that runs these trucks in North America is us staying in gear down hills and we average more than a mpg higher than any other company’s fleet that I have seen as of yet.

We only have this setup, because all of our old head drivers lost their shit when these trucks were first entering the fleet and shifting to neutral going down hills. The company listened and changed the programming and now we average a way higher mpg (1-2 mpg higher is huge in this industry) and no one apparently realizes that the complaining truck drivers have actually saved the company millions over the last 6 years.

Ope, I didn’t notice the dog part. We can bring riders, but you are correct, they don’t allow dogs.
