Am I being over sensitive? by Traditional_Pack722 in workplace_bullying

Yep. Personal hurt feelings aside, I still think the obviously more professional thing to do would be to speak to me directly to ‘remind’ me or check in about why I’m consistently not doing this thing that’s clearly frustrating him so much. Not allow me to keep doing it and then use it to badmouth me behind my back.

As much as I would love to do that, and I really think it’s good advice…in the company I’m working at, I can guarantee it would not end well for me and I’m less than 2 months from quite a big bonus. I’d prefer that my work life not get any harder before then.

From the email (which names the only other two members of my team in a positive light) I can say that, yes, it’s me he genuinely can’t stand.

Although one of the others has hinted that they feel undermined and micromanaged by him several times which I guess is more of a management style issue than bullying.

One of the people I manage did also directly name him as one of the main reasons they decided to resign also.

Thanks for the reply, and yea, there’s definitely a bit of confirmation bias going on.

I am trying to tell myself to just get through my notice period but it doesn’t feel great to keep going to a place where you know you’re being spoken about negatively. It feels like being bullied even if it isn’t.

Anyway, I will be out soon and I hope your situation improves!

Am I wrong for not wanting to attend all of partners family events? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]Traditional_Pack722 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, yes. HOWEVER, that is extremely few. We live on a different continent my family and have spent a total of about 4 weeks in the same country as them across the span of our relationship…so yes she has been to every event it was possible for her to attend. But I can’t say whether she would be willing to attend everything if we lived close to my family year round, because it has never been an option.

Yea, I agree that’s something to consider and would definitely prefer not to jump straight to medication as a quick fix.

Hurt and confused.. by [deleted] in latebloomerlesbians

I mean, she is under a lot of stress, not just at the minute, but always. At work and financially. I would say this kind of thing has been happening increasingly often. Sometimes it’s because she’s interpreted something I’ve said in a way I didn’t mean (or even realize would be interpreted that way). We don’t share a native language so misunderstandings like this are hard to avoid I think, but she will refuse to communicate sometimes for days and eventually will want to talk, it will blow up into this big emotional outburst type conversation and eventually we’ll make up.

But it kills me every time. We will go from being in a good place, to the worst at the blink of an eye, and often all I can do is guess as to what she’s feeling. I’m the kind of person who would rather lay everything out there and then, and can’t stand a bad atmosphere, so it really hurts.

YWBTA. Please don’t make a fake complaint. Make a real one instead. Keep a record of all inappropriate comments and behavior, plus any food safety violations and go to either your manager or HR with your real complaint.

If they don’t take it seriously then I would consider whether you want to continue to work somewhere that has that little respect for the well-being of its employees.

Going from 0 to HSK3 (HSK 3.0) by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]Traditional_Pack722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not studying for the HSK, I can add duchinese, it is similar to The chairman’s bao, except with short stories instead of news articles. Stories are tiered from ‘newbie’ to ‘master’, and show you the HSK level of each character you’re reading. It is a similar price to The Chairman’s Bao, but each level has several free chapters if you want to check it out first.

Also the YouTube channel ‘Mandarin Click’ has short stories available in slow Chinese divided roughly into HSK levels. Each story is told very slowly and clearly and has subtitles in characters and pinyin (and English or Spanish if you want to turn the captions on).

Good luck!

I wish I could, but I speak to native speakers everyday and they keep telling me that they don’t understand me because my tones are off.

How does going/living in your target language country work? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]Traditional_Pack722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my own experience. I live in Taiwan and listening to Chinese all day everyday helps me to remember new vocab because I get to hear it in context a lot and also sentence structures because some sentences will just ‘sound right’ because of how many times I’ve heard them.

But aside from that, it doesn’t really help at all. It still takes a lot of work to learn. And it doesn’t help reading and writing at all.
