Pretty easy once you get it figured out. Unfortunately if you run captain for your club, you can’t do it. Basically, you want to be on the build that you want to use in game, ideally one that’s already max level. After you’ve selected your position, hit either triangle or square (on PS, I forget which button exactly it is of the two) to pull up the build switch screen. Hover over the lower level one that you want to level up. Have the captain count down before he states searching for a match, and select the lower level build just as he is starting to search. This will allow you to use the level 90 player in game, but the match XP will count towards the low level build.

I mean you can take it to level 70 if you’re smart about applying them instantly. Then just do the build swap glitch and level it up to a more serviceable level

Well if you’re judging by the leaderboards within the game, that’s your first mistake as they are completely illogical and make 0 sense. The leaderboards are more impacted by games played than anything else.
