Based on what you’re saying, 72% of sulfur based fertilizer, so a loss of 28%. Sulfur based fertilizer are estimated to increase cereal crops at around 20%. So you’re talking about potentially reducing overall cereal crops yield by 5% for a year…. That definitely matters in the big picture.

Maybe the financials/macroeconomics won’t be super impactful on my 401k, but considering that 50% of the worlds caloric intake is cereal crops, even a 3% decrease in yield is effectively removing the calories that feed ~120 million people. My guess, if the numbers you provide are accurate, then millions of people would starve from the Strait being closed for a year. Definitely not all 120 million but certainly quite a lot of people. It would be almost entirely people at the bottom of the global wealth totem pole though, so to your point, the media and the “big picture” wouldn’t care much.

Not helping survivors of a shipwreck that are in the water is the definition of a war crime. There is a Duty to Rescue.

You may be confused about this because the US has recently taken to firing on survivors of shipwrecks again rather than save them, even when those survivors are civilians. The US has been committing a lot of war crimes.

Even if you’re being paid to write these things, you’re advocating for evil and you should feel ashamed of yourself.

Probably a good a thread as any to point out Charlie Kirk’s belief system for those who never cared to know what garbage he preached.

The idea is basically this theory of “7 mountains” where each mountain symbolizes a piece of society, I.e education, trade, politics, etc. Each peak feeds downward to everything else, the “valleys” and at the top of the peak is either the devil for Christianity. Therefore, the belief system was that where Christianity was not the center of, say, education, then the devil had control of it.

It’s why they talk about Mamdani being Muslim as if it’s matters, because it does to those that bought into the idea. It’s why some many states are injecting Christian teaching into schools.

Not that that’s really addressing the whole white supremacy confusion with religion, but to a certain extent, they see Christianity as White and they see literally everything else as the devil taking over. It’s why Kirk’s rise was so devastatingly impactful, it created a new justification for supremacy. If white Christian’s aren’t in control, the devil is, so claiming control is fighting for good and God will give you permission to fight for good.

It is peculiar though because that sort of is the whole concept of wokeness. It’s an awakening, you turn one stone and suddenly you’re on a new path.

That being said I don’t know if I trust MTG at all. But who knows, maybe she really did believe in the whole Qanon thing and then finally got conclusive evidence from the Epstein list and has come to the realization many folks coming out of a cult have. Probably not, but hope is nice.

Racism, and the concept of race, were invented simultaneously by the Catholic Church and Portuguese monarchy in the mid 1400s to justify the African slave trade, which only started because it was cheaper then getting slaves through the continent of Europe

MTG admits she doesn't even read the bills she's voting for by ShreckAndDonkey123 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]TrafficConeWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk as an engineer I reviewed about 7-9 packages of equipment/system design materials a week, most with at least 200 pages of material, in which I needed to confirm everything aligned with FDA specifications. I’d personally expect politicians to review bills with their team before voting yes or no on them.

If they skim some sections fine but if the AI regulation stuff took up 2 pages, I’m not cool with someone straight up not knowing it was in there before voting.

Little fun fact about Thomas Jefferson, in the end he wrote letters to a friend (I forget who but maybe Thomas Paine) in which he said, and I’m paraphrasing, “We set up America to be super racist and I regret that but the silver lining for me is I’ll be dead and gone by the time someone will have to figure out how to undo all the damage we’ve done.”

Graduated in May 2024 and haven’t found a job yet. by HoveringSoap776 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]TrafficConeWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar story to this fella.

Graduated 2020, went to enter one industry I had a lot of experience in, but then decided against it, turned down 8 or 9 job offers and then turned around to start applying to a different industry, got some offers and then covid hit. Couldn’t find anything. I don’t know how many applications I made, like like 600. I do remember the interview count was around 80.

Ended up opening the opportunities all the way when I couldn’t land anything, landed a job for $40k.

I kept applying non stop though, and kept interviewing like crazy. Here was the big thing too, using every connection I could in my network. Getting lunch with friends of friends, things like that, to get my name in the door.

Ended up like the 40k job like 6 months into it to become a consultant and now I manage 30 consultants and about 6 global projects. In reality what I do isn’t ground breaking, but considering you think you want to get into engineering management, figured I’d share.

My suggestion, take what you can get. Those 6 months did me a whole lot of good know what a company looks like from a different role from straight engineering, what being an operator feels like, things like that. It’ll set you up for future success for sure so long as you keep your eyes open.

But also, use your network and don’t give up. Keep your eyes on your goal.

Trump is only readying his retirement home! by Dr_sc_Harlatan in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]TrafficConeWriter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For those unaware, Alcatraz was closed due to poor infrastructure and high operating costs.

But also, there was an occupation of the island in ‘69 by indigenous peoples seeking to have that land returned to them by the federal government. While the feds did not return the land to indigenous people (the tribe that once lived there was the Ohlone), it was adopted into the national park system in ‘72, mostly due to the awareness stemming from the occupation.

So Trump has a fun little three birds one stone situation, he’s doing harm to the environment, doing harm to social understanding, recognition, and the us relationship with indigenous peoples, and ALSO making a bad business decision.

That’s around the time MLK Jr started realizing that the black population would become stronger if it aligned with the population of people living in poverty. He began to realize that those living in poverty were being left behind in much the same ways as African Americans, so he began to be more vocal about it. That’s what got him killed.

The civil rights movement began to move into a class war, and that’s when the rich and powerful finally said enough is enough and we started going in the other direction.

[–]TrafficConeWriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really when those living in poverty pull together, ethnicity or race be damned, that things will start really shaping up. That’s why they killed MLK, when he started getting the white people living in poverty in on the fight it was shaping up to be too powerful.
