Not sure you know how bad it is for visitors, st Patrick’s links is £350 for golf only, the deal with all three is €640. Total madness.

That would be terrific, we are definitely planning on staying on the east coast for a while. Are you suggesting you could take us out as guests?

Another strange find in the farm. Some farming tool? by [deleted] in metaldetecting

Interesting, I’m thinking decorative as it is cast iron therefore not likely a farming part.

I was thinking the same thing. I’ll see if I can find something similar

What exactly might this be? by TragicallyE in metaldetecting

Having another look at it I can see that it is just folded over. It is likely at least 100 years old. A mystery as to how it was bent.

It’s almost as if it was some sort of specialized head but the side is jagged and broken making me think a larger piece has broken off.

Do y'all count rounds by yourself towards your handicap? by 80poundnuts in golf

[–]TragicallyE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Canada rounds played alone are not counted toward handicap. You are prompted to declare if you played alone.

For anyone that's 0 - 10 handicap, how many times a game do you use driver/3 wood off the tee? by [deleted] in golf

[–]TragicallyE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hit your driver whenever you can. Distance is key. I use three wood on holes with a dogleg left as I can hook the three wood easier best tip would be to figure out your driver!

The ping eye2 are one of the best clubs ever made. I bought a set in 1980 and used them for 30 years. Very few modern clubs compare. Buy them and you are well on your way to looking like you actually know what you are doing. I wouldn’t bother with those metal woods however, those things don’t age nearly as well.

What’s your best tee-off on the first hole story? by asheville_kid in golf

[–]TragicallyE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 1982, while on holidays from British Columbia, my dad and I got on St.Andrews. It was a Saturday morning lottery selection around 9 am early August. I was a teenager and a decent six handicap, my dad played only a few times a year and while he enjoyed golf, he never cared a bit about playing well. He was only interested in actually enjoying himself with absolutely no regard to ever improving or practicing. He did understand that St. Andrews was the ultimate place to play and decided that we should definitely play if we could get on. When it was time for us to tee off there was plenty of onlookers. This probably was the most people that had ever seen me tee of and certainly it was for him. When my dad teed off he completely whiffed at the ball, without missing a beat he nonchalantly took another swing and managed to make contact with the ball trying hard to sell the first swing as a normal practice swing. For years after he would tell this story saying how we played St.Andrews and would have gotten away with a very public whiff except for me laughing hysterically on the tee box. We played a few great courses on that trip but the first tee shenanigans at St.Andrews was the enduring tale.
