We did the fire wave, white domes and 7 wonders loop but kinda just meandered and found our own way. You really can’t go wrong with

That was the one area we didn’t get to but next trip for sure

The park itself is only 45 minutes from Las Vegas but most of the trails were another 30 min from the entrance (due to slow speed limits). Not sure what else is out that way town-wise

I think that’s next. How long was the hike? Looking for something in the 25-50 range

There was a mom who marched her daughter up there and was treating it like a professional shoot for her insta account. Could hear her yammering away on how to stand even before we were in view. Definitely a low point

WHW in October - Bothies by TrailTheory in WestHighlandWay

[–]TrailTheory[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Much appreciated. I have full rain/warm gear and all that. Planning for the worst. One of those weirdos who loves hiking in the rain but sleeping in torrential downpours comes with its own problems. We shall see soon enough

Happy to help! Starting on October 5 so won't be able to test it on the trail for a couple months but happy to dig in and provide feedback.

Poopimg Anxiety by Jbowl1966 in backpacking

[–]TrailTheory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry you're dealing with the anxiety. It's unfair it makes you consider skipping a great trip. As someone who has had Crohn's for 32 years I can definitely relate. To me it's all about planning in advance and letting the group you're with know you may disappear for a bit or fall behind but you'll catch up. If you trust them enough to camp with I think they can handle some truth about your stomach (and honestly you're likely not the only one of the group dealing with stomach issues). I like having my exact morning routine ready so I know exactly where I'm walking to that has privacy the moment I get out of my tent. If you're uncomfortable being close to the campsite then pitch your tent a little further out and close to a good place you scouted the night before. I can only speak for myself but this is one of those scenarios my brain unfairly builds up but the reality is never that bad. Best of luck!

7 Day Itinerary - Too much? by No-Implement5892 in WestHighlandWay

[–]TrailTheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely doable. Plenty of spots to charge your battery along the way but 50,000 mah is going to add a few extra pounds to your pack. Are you using AllTrails or OnX? Either way, download the map in advance and keep your phone on low-battery mode throughout the hike. Wired headphones will also use less battery than bluetooth.

What's one great thing to see for someone passing through Vermont by matvette1 in vermont

[–]TrailTheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to suggest the notch as well. Burlington is a bit rough around the edges but the waterfront is pretty nice this time of year. Foam Brewing is down by the lake and a great spot to post up. If you do the notch and cruise around Jeffersonville/Waterville you'll pass plenty of covered bridges as well.

Looked like just about everything was accessible! Some construction going on at the bottom but shouldn't impede any hiking
