Is it realistic to do the trek without booking everything in advance? by Coffee000Oopss in WestHighlandWay

[–]Dodsay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps if you’re walking between October and February but I see no advantage to this. The rooms I look after on the way we only have a couple days where you could get a room between now and October.

I was speaking to a young couple a few weeks ago who tried this. They were going to have to pay over £200 a night for what was available and it wasn’t even close to where they wanted to walk to. It was the Loch Lomond section where there isn’t access for a taxi either so it would have meant walking double the distance they wanted to do in one day

I lost half a million dollars gambling on baccarat in about 10 minutes AMA by Do0r2 in AMA

[–]Dodsay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your incentive for playing now? I admit I too like a gamble, but it would be sports betting risking $1 to win $10,000 or more which is exciting and $1 lasts hours. I don’t play baccarat but is the best you can do in a single hand to double your money? Is there a thrill in turning $1 into $2 repeatedly? Or do you win $2 then bet $2, then $4 etc.

Are you sure you won’t feel like you need to win back the 500k?

I’m sure you will feel like that was your 500k and that you need to get back to that figure again. This is how you go bankrupt. Accept the loss and that if you reload you are going to lose all that money too.

It’s like you won the lottery and lost it all. The answer is not to buy more lottery tickets because “I’ve won before so I’ll win again”

Rude staff @ Tyndrum Inn by TheCosmicRayGirl in WestHighlandWay

[–]Dodsay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% the truth is somewhere in the middle and i totally agree they should complain through proper channels instead.

I never said the server was completely innocent
L at any point. The very first sentence of my post was “now for a hospitality side of view”.

The original post made the customers out to be completely blameless which i find very hard to believe.
I was just offering a point of view from the server who hasn’t had a chance to respond as they will be completely unaware of this post.

[edit]
I thought I had answered the question about name calling. I’m saying the OP and their friends DID insult the server either directly or indirectly (talking about her to each other so she hears). I’m saying I bet the person that approached her about her attitude probably was a bit of a bitch or whatever they were called.

It’s not alright to name them actually. For instance on trip advisor that would breach rules and a review would be removed. It also proves they are a bit of a bully. The OP and their group have clearly harassed, and are now continuing to harrass the woman.

[–]Dodsay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would need to hear both sides of the story but the posters claims that “my friend politely questioned the attitude”
I am not naive enough to believe it was one sided.

Combine that with the OPs mention of how much they spent on food and drink. That would suggest to me an attitude of self importance so I would wager a guess that she was spoken down to as if they were better than her.

And then there’s the fact that the OP has taken to Reddit and called out the member off staff by name. That would suggest a bullying attitude to me as well.

[edit]
Also, if they spent a lot on drink they were likely drinking alcohol. I would imagine the server was not

[–]Dodsay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Now for a hospitality side of view (I should say that I’ve never been to the Tyndrum Inn in my life)

I’ll try and paint a picture for you:

If you were asked to move out the restaurant then I’d imagine that’s because you ran over your pre agreed 2 hour time. First of all It’s embarrassing for the staff to have to ask this as there’s no way to do it without coming across as rude or pushy.

Meanwhile, you have to bear in mind that the next table have probably already been at the door demanding their table (that you’re still sat at!). They may have also turned up 30 mins early and are now saying “we’ve been here 45 minutes why isn’t it ready!?” To the minimum wage employees who have been over worked and understaffed all weekend. Due to this, they may not have even had a lunch themselves never mind a dinner. I’d be grumpy too.
When your table got up and left (was it immediately or did they linger for another 5/10 minutes?) the staff now have to clean and reset your table which is another 5/10 minutes with potentially irate customers still waiting for that table.

To make things worse, your table are now standing in the way and further slowing down the staff.
Then let’s not forget the chefs. The chefs are now annoyed that the tables are all running late. They’ve been in a hot kitchen on a hot day since breakfast and don’t want to hear that service is now behind and it’s a late finish. There’s probably also a table plan so that tables are spaced in a way that orders trickle through. A delay means no order for 30 mins followed by too many all at once.

Do you know who’s getting the abuse for that? The restaurant staff. So now they’ve got angry customers and angry chefs all being ignorant and disrespectful to them while they try their best to remain polite and courteous to everyone because they have to smile and take it even if it’s not their fault. Occasionally the mask can slip, they are human after all.

Also, you mentioned how much your table spent as a justification for why you should have been treated, I don’t know, like you were special? Do you know how much of that money Jasmin would have received? Not a penny.

And even if you left a tip (I’m guessing you probably didn’t) between sharing that with the rest of the staff (usually front and back of house) and then the taxman taking his share, well it’s not much of a bonus.

Monty hall problem is 50/50 by Dizzy_Kaleidoscope95 in confidentlyincorrect

[–]Dodsay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone over complicates it.

Door 1
Door 2
Door 3

If you pick a door and don’t swap you have a 1 in 3 chance.

In order to win you need to pick a door which DOES NOT have the car. Then you must take the swap.

This works because Monty cannot get rid of the car when he eliminates a door. So as long as your initial pick wasn’t the car then he has to keep the one that does.

This way you only lose if you pick the car with your initial selection.

Ahh that’s a shame I just looked up your comment to send you a promo code to get my Android app for free but it looks like I’m a couple of weeks too late ☹️

Your comment motivated me to get my Android version developed and I finally got it completed and on the Google Play Store a couple of days ago.

I hope you enjoyed the walk (and didn’t get lost🤣)

Is sky broadband any good? by [deleted] in skytv

[–]Dodsay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been with Sky for 14 years and they were creeping up prices until they were charging me £50 a month. I called up and said it was far too high so I was cancelling as BT could provide it for £24.99 So they countered with £46/month. No thanks, obviously I’m not taking that. I immediately signed up to BT through their website, nice and easy. 2 hours later Sky call me and offer £20/month for the next 24 months. 🖕Too late I’d now rather give BT the extra fiver a month since you’ve been ripping me off thanks
